In order for Campustown to be a place unto itself, it must have a common place that makes it a whole, greater than a cluster of buildings.

The transition can be made peacemeal, starting with portions of the public lot and adding the private lots, and along the way expanding the porches. The whole area can be paved with bricks and landscaped, and what are the backsides of buildings will become another entrance, if not the main entrance for many.

As an additional option, one or both lanes on Welch can close along the adjacent block, and the sidewalk can be extended and the area landscaped and paved with bricks. This will require the fire station on Welch to relocate.
