FEATURING WORLDWIDE SINGING
SENSATION LIPA SCHMELTZER Details to Follow!
On Friday night, February 28, hundreds of synagogues across the continent will take part
in an historic national Jewish event to celebrate what unifies all Jews - Shabbat! Everyone is
invited… singles, couples, families!
After a promising start as photographer - his work was published on the cover of the British Journal of Photography, Rabbi Yaakov Asher Sinclair began a career in the music industry, opening in 1972, SARM Studios, the first twenty-four track recording studio in Europe, where Queen mixed “Bohemian Rhapsody”. His music publishing company, Druidcrest Music published the music for The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1973) and as a record producer, he co-produced the quadruple-platinum debut album by American band “Foreigner” (1976). American Top ten singles from this album included, “Feels Like The First Time”, “Cold as Ice” and “Long, Long Way from Home”. In 1987, he settled in Jerusa-lem to immerse himself in the study of Torah. His two Torah books The Color of Heaven, on the weekly Torah portion, and Seasons of the Moon have both met with critical acclaim. Seasons of the Moon, a unique fine-art black-and-white photography book combining poetry and Torah essays, has now sold out and is much sought as a collector’s item. He is much in demand as an inspirational speaker both in Israel, Great Britain and the United States. He was Plenary Keynote Speaker at the Agudas Yisrael Convention, and in Keynote Speaker at Project Inspire in 2018. Rabbi Sinclair lectures in Talmud and Jewish Philosophy at Ohr Somayach/Tannenbaum College of Judaic studies in Jerusalem and is a senior staff writer of the Torah internet publications Ohrnet and Torah Weekly. His articles have been published in The Jewish Observer, American Jewish Spirit, AJOP Newsletter, Zurich’s Die Jüdische Zeitung, South African Jewish Report and many others. Rabbi Sinclair was born in Lon-don, and lives with his family in Jerusalem. He was educated at St. Anthony’s Preparatory School in Hampstead, Clifton College, and Bristol University.

FAS WOMEN’S CLUB CORNER Dear Fellow Members: As we enter the new year this month, we are also completing the book of Bereshit and entering into the book of Shemot, in which our achdus as a nation is established under the
pressure of slavery and with the miracles of redemption. In light of the recent spate of violence against us, we pray for our final redemp-
tion, and we make plans to strengthen our defense on every level, spiritually and physically, against those who hate us. We want to tell
you that we are thinking big regarding the Women's Club of Fifth Avenue Synagogue to see how it can contribute meaningfully to your life and to the achdus of our synagogue. We are thrilled to work with Rachel, who encouraged us to kick off the year with a Challah Bake that was a hands-on event, which was full of Torah inspiration, fun, and achdus. Last week we met with the leaders of Ma'agalim, an Is-raeli Not-for-Profit that helps at-risk young adults find their way to college and career. The Women's Club is one of Ma'agalim's mean-
ingful supporters. We will, G-d willing, share our ideas for events and programs with you here in the bulletin, and we look forward to hear-ing from you as to what you, the women of FAS, would like to see us
put ourselves into, as we welcome the opportunity to serve you.
Yours, Rivkah Rothschild & Laurel Grass,
New Co-Chairs.
UNRAVELLING THE CAMP DAVID ACCORDS: PRESENTED BY CHARLES Z. BORNSTEIN
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5 AT FAS Reception: 6:45 PM, Lecture: 7:00 PM
RSVP: Rachel@5as.org
The American Indians were quarrying for arrowheads in the Catoctin Mountains of
Maryland - home of Camp David - when the first known peace treaty was forged between the Egyptians and the Hittites
in the mid-1200’s. More than 700 years later, the Egyptians arrived at Camp David to navigate the possibility of a peace treaty with Israel. The Camp David Accords, arguably President Carter’s greatest achievement, went largely unrecognized and uncelebrated due to mounting problems
with the American economy and strife in Iran and Afghanistan. Yet, since the signing of the treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979, there has not been a single violation of the terms of the agreement. It is impossible to
calculate the value of peace until war brings it to an end.
Please join Charles Z. Bornstein as he takes us through this oft-misunderstood treaty and illuminates this unique initia-tive that came directly from President Carter’s own sense of Biblical history,
rather than the State Department or Congress. Bornstein will demonstrate
how Carter staked his entire presidency on his belief that he could broker peace and justice equally for Egypt and
Israel, and unravel the fascinating mystery of what Carter, Begin, and Sadat did and why!

FAS WOMEN’S CHEVRA KADISHA
The Chevra at Fifth Avenue is a long-standing shul tradition and we need new members to continue the
beautiful mitzvot of Tahara prior to burial and getting the shiva homes of FAS members ready for arrival
after the funeral of their loved one. It is a tremendous honor to participate in these important mitzvot
and to comfort our FAS family.
