Trailer Analysis - Thriller

• Trailer opens with production company. Universal being a famously high budget film production company will attract people to the film straight away.

• Over the shoulder shot• Lighting – Very dark.• Hardly any colour in the shot.

Black/White/Blue.• Snowy. Cold.

• Interrupts the shot for text. Uses text as oppose to narration or dialogue to help explain the storyline.

• The word “his” creates mystery. Instead of making the character known to the audience they have decided to create a smokescreen of unknown. An attraction technique.

• Yet again a camera shot taken from behind the person. The idea of ‘mystery’ is apparent in this shot yet again.

• White/Black/Blue the main colour palette. Darkness the main tone at the start of the trailer.

• “His”• Text interrupts the camera shots again.• A predominately dark screen with a

white/blue merged text. • Up to this point, quiet music but slowly

building to create tension.

Quick cuts. After a slow start to the trailer it has a dramatic change in tone. Bright colours and rapid cuts provide fast paced action.Sound goes from quiet nondiagetic sound to LOUD diagetic

• Back to text. • Dark.• Music starts the rebuilding process. Building

up quickly to another scene of fast paced quickly cut action.

Once again, another montage of actions scenes paired with fast paced music. The quick cut shots maintain this high tempo creating the illusion of exhilarating action that will be on display in the actual movie.

• Halfway through trailer. First bit of dialogue.

Rest of the trailer – fast paced action/quick cuts.
