The bases of the Bo Bario Programme
- Renobacion urbano
- The Government view: two main pillars
- Public Space Development
- Social Value Development
- A constant cycle building mutual understanding and knowledge
- Through an interactive process, designers learn from the inhabitants and inhabitants learn how to best use their facilities
Renobacion Urbano
• Learning from people abroad
• Learning from each other
• Learning & working together
Public Space Development

Public Space Development
Het nieuwe ruimtelijke organisatie systeem is gebaseerd op drie hoofdonderdelen: - Toegespitst rijverkeer met
gestructureerd parkeren
- Voetgangersruimte geintegreerd met andere services zoals oa. gezamelijke afvalophaalplekken
- Groenvoorziening geintegreerd met regenwaterafvoer

Social Value development • The inhabitants’ projects and needs are the
central piece around which each neighbourhood process revolves
• For each neighbourhood, a specific programme is formulated containing specific goals and dates for the area
• Government organisations such as FCCA work
together with NGO´s like CEDE Aruba including them in the projects at the earliest possible stage
Social Value development • Presentations of the new public space concepts go
hand in hand with invitations to participate in creating a custom made project for the neighbourhood
• The social group prepare important information to share with the neighbourhoods thus guiding and educating the inhabitants whilst being guided and learn as well

Juana Morto Case Study
• EmergingStrategy
- Envolve the inhabitants from the get go
- Make a large body of proffesionals and experience available to the citizen
- Beautification does not mean renewal necesarily
- Explaining the project to local authorities and institutions and getting their committment
Juana Morto Case Study
• Personal Discovery
- Neighbourhoods are not isolated
- Inhabitants have most often the right ideas
- Neighbourhood stories and legends
- Building knowledge and experience can be a cumulative process
Change what? - Perception of ourselves - Neighbourhoods are filled with people and thus value - People in «bad» neighbourhoods have valuable ideas - Perception of our public space - erradicate thenegative association of the «street» - public space is a fundamental platform for: * social interaction and mutual learning experiences * creating awareness of our collective home (milieu) * the creation of healthy and happy communities - Our priorities - Accomodating space for people rather than vehicles - Investing in good pedestrian and bike infrastructure will yield in further enable and sustain healthy happy communities - Investing in healthy environment for our kids will help them grow to be more sociable and consious beings.
