The Sister Isaac Center Mary Ann Kotas, Director
Today starts our new fiscal year. We are about to start our 33rd year of operating an outreach center. And to think it all started with Sister Isaac working out of the janitor’s closet in school. We certainly have come a long way, thanks to all the volunteers and donors that have supported us through the years. As usual, we will be closed for the month of August for a well-needed rest for our volunteers (and me). We’ll do some cleaning and we’ll still be gathering food on the August Share Sunday and there will be another Knight’s food drive, but we won’t be doing any furniture pickups and we will not be open for donations. I’m mentioning this now as a reminder for you to bring in your donations while we are still open in July. Call the office if you have any furnishings or appliances to donate and we’ll schedule a pickup. Please remember that we cannot accept any items that are in need of cleaning or repairs. (Keep in mind we will be closed July 4 and July 5 for the holiday.) A few more items for you to mark on your calendar: • When we re-open in September, we’ll be accepting donations
for our Fall Yard Sale. Marie and Dave King have been running this semi-annual sale for years. It’s an important event as it funds our Work for Rent program and keeps the van running for
all those pickups and deliveries. The tentative date for the sale is October 6-7.
• Also in October, JoAnn Daly will once again head up our Quar-ter Auction on October 20. This fund raiser started out funding things like purchasing new work boots and locks for the bikes we hand out. In the last couple years, it’s been so successful it has provided extra funds for us to help families with rent and utilities.
Special Need of the Week: During the summer weeks, we see many more children coming in along with their parents. Our supply of small toys is running low and we’d like to have more to be able to share with them. Reminder: Today is Share Sunday. Thank you for bringing in non-perishable food items when you come to church. To contact The Sister Isaac Center, please call us during normal hours at 762-5491, ext. 135. RCIA (Beverly Setz) - RCIA will begin again in the fall. For more information, you may leave a message at 762-5491, ext. 121

Joyce M. Price "Let your light so shine..."
Matthew 5:16
Excerpted quote from email sent by parent of a recent graduate – “Finally, as a Catholic family, we really enjoyed the way that faith and love was always such a core message at the
school. Your graduation talk about concentrating on the “who” you are rather than the “what” you are was right in line with what we’re teaching our children, so we appreciat-ed hearing that. It was nice to hear the message that faith is important and that you should always treat others as Jesus would. In a society where secularism is so prominent, we really respected the value you placed on faith.”
Happy Summer to you all! I hope that you are already enjoying a slower paced schedule. Here at school, that hasn’t happened for us yet. There have been many workmen here focused on getting the offices and the beautiful historic convent ready for our new priests as it will now become the rectory. We all wish Fr. Bob the very best as he departed for Honduras on Mon-day. I know that you join me in offering prayers for his safety and good health. He has a busy retirement planned ahead. Our Booster Club hosted a group of traveling cyclists who are traveling to do Outreach Projects for others. They found our gym to be comforta-
ble for the night. Mrs. Linn has been busy welcoming and registering several new stu-dents this week. We look forward to sharing that warm St. Mary wel-come with them. She has asked me to remind you all that if you have any school business to conduct, that you wait until she returns from va-cation the 3rd week in July. Reminder – Don’t forget to order your School Supply Packs! Always Learning- Some of our teachers attended the New Hanover County Schools Summer Workshop for Teachers. I have interviewed some wonderfully talented teachers. I will share an update when decisions have been made. Our new pastor, Fr. Ryszard, arrived on Tuesday! We send our prayers and best wishes to Mrs. Jordan, Spanish teacher Gr. 6-8, as she had surgery last week. Fortunately, she is now home. “The Catholic School Difference” Wall Street Journal—You can find a link to the article on our Facebook page from last week’s Wall Street Journal. Note: There are many wonderful pictures on our school Facebook page. Check them out! Have a great summer.

St. Mary Catholic School Alumni Update Elizabeth Waser, SMS Class of 2014, sang the beautiful "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" at the JT Hoggard commencement on June 9th. She was also a soloist during her time at St Mary in Catholic Schools Live programs. She will be attending ECU in the fall; studying Vocal Performance on a well-earned scholarship! Congratulations Elizabeth! Video can be watched on our Facebook Page. We received this testimonial via our alumni portal from Mark Bochey, former St. Mary School student. Mark only attended St. Mary for a few short years but, as you can see by his statement, it left a lasting impres-sion! Congratulations Mark on all of your successes - we are grateful to have made a contribution!
"Developing a healthy academic focus and peer system in the formative years of a gregarious and impressionable youth will always have its challenges! Reflecting now as a husband and father of three I appreciate this weighty task even more. In retro-
spect I feel the St. Mary School achieved this by not only offer-ing excellent academic instruction but clearly with a broader focus and objective in mind. While the classrooms represented a diverse community from homes across the region, it was clear the faculty and families were united in the active and earnest support of a learning envi-ronment based in faith, purpose, independence, and accountabil-ity. St. Mary’s stressed the importance of nurturing friendships and serving in the fellowship of our larger community. We were only there a few short years but for me those memories and early lessons continue to resonate."
