FASHION THROUGH THE
CENTURIES A trip for sixth form textiles students took them
to the Fashion Museum Bath on 18 September.
Students spent the day sketching and studying
exhibits and then creating pieces of fabric
manipulation and contemporary lace in
specialist workshops.
Before departing the students had time to
experience wearing corsets and period costume.
The took the opportunity for a photograph in
their stylish outfits!

MOTH CLUB We were very excited to discover a giant
Clifden Nonpareil (meaning ‘unrivalled’) moth
at Moth Club last week. This is a moth that
Dr Fitter has been hoping to see for over 40
years with no luck. It is now only an immigrant
to the British Isles and only a handful are seen
every year. A favourite of the Victorian Moth
enthusiast, the ‘Blue underwing’ is a
magnificent moth with a wingspan of nearly
10cm and a striking blue band on the
underwing.
Moth club takes place every Thursday morning
at 8.20am behind the Evers Block. There is a
winter break from October half term until
March. All are welcome.

KEY STAGE 3 AWARDS Thank you to everyone, especially the students and parents, who made the evening on
28 September such a success. The evening took the form of an Oscar awards ceremony.
There were eight students nominated in every subject who each received a certificate.
The overall winner, in bold type, was announced on stage and was presented with a
voucher. Nominees and winners are detailed on the next few pages.

BOYS’ PE Year 8 Rugby
Year 8 played their first match of the season
against Kennet. A squad of 27 players was
selected from the training numbers that have
been consistently more than 45 boys this term.
Every boy played at least a quarter of the match
which St Bart’s won by 8 tries to 1.
It was very much a whole team performance,
but some players of the match were Josh
Lefever who scored several exciting tries and
Elliot Crouch who played well at fly half and
also scored.
A special mention must also go to Edmund
Breckenridge who impressed in his first match
for the school.
GIRLS’ PE Girls’ Football
After only two training sessions the U13 team
played in a national cup fixture last week. They
lost 3-0 to King Alfred’s from Wantage. They
played very well and Erin Cahoon and Sophie

Well done to the Year 7 A and B teams, both

Y8 Lacrosse v St Helen & St Katharine
The Y8 team played well in this match and with
the opposition’s defence strong it made it hard
for St Bart’s girls to score. The goal keeper,
Izzy Duly saved some amazing goals. The team
played better in the second half with Gemma
Moon and Annabel Grant scoring. Well done
to the players of the match Gemma Moon for
attack and Emily Tucker in defence.
Year 7 Netball v The Downs
The Year 7 netballers took on The Downs in
their very first league game. From the start of
both matches St Bart’s played well and quickly
raced ahead. Excellent skills from all players
resulted in the A team winning 20-0 and the B
team winning 13-0. Players of the match were
Tallie Glendenning, Nya Taank and Ruby
Scarr.
