All about...

Badgers are very shy animals that live in family groups. They are usually nocturnal.

A badger's home is called a sett. The sett is an underground home, often with lots of tunnels. Badgers have to dig out tons of earth to make a sett.

An adult can grow up to 1m long and usually weighs about 11 kg.

Badgers have very powerful claws that they use for digging.

A badger's nose is called its snout. They have a very good sense of smell.

They look for food with

their snouts by sniffing

the ground in front

of them.

Badgers are omnivores and will eat lots of different foods.

Their favourite food

is earthworms and

they eat up to 200

every day.

Badgers do less in the winter but they do not hibernate.

People are the main enemies of badgers. It is illegal for anybody to kill, or hurt badgers.

Badgers are closely related to otters, stoats, weasels, polecats and pine martens.
