“One on One”

Plein Air Painting, is a fancy word used now days, for painting out doors period. Painting in nature is super, there is no greater teacher then the great out doors. To be out among the birds and the trees, the flowers and the grasses. The different colors of the sky, the clouds, all the different cloud formations, you learn how to paint fast, before the sun move to much and changes everything In your painting. The color of the leaves, at different times of the year, even different times of the day. The colors at first light, noon, early evening, to the beautiful glow of sunset. I took my family on a 5 day camping trip to the mountain top in cloudcroft. We set up a camp area, with tents, cots, sleeping bags, cooking stoves, the whole works. I painted about ten painting during that time, small but enough detail, that through the years I have gone back and painted full size painting from them. Some 16” X 20” to four feet by five foot paintings. You will be amazed at how much you will improve. Leave the comfort of your studio and go out and paint the mountains, cactus, the wild flowers, the trees in the park, you can even go in your back yard and find something to paint. You will enjoy it. Here in El Paso there is so much to paint, you have the wild golden poppies all over the northeast side of the Franklins, the beautiful flowers on the cactus, the white wing doves, mountain doves, The pigeons you can see all over El Paso, there is no shortage of things to paint

Now that summer is here in full strength, let’s Get out and PAINT. We have no shortage of Subject matters to paint.

The Portrait I waited about one hour, for the paint to cure A little bit, before I painted the glasses, worked the shadows a little more on the shirt, added the reflective light on the shadow side of the face, added final high lights on him, and shaded his equipment.

This painting I did to show any of you that might be interested in the Art of Portrait painting, there is many ways to paint the portrait, this how I do it and I hope it helped some of you.

I now work the whole painting to bring it to the Final moment when I an happy with it and stop.

First I painted the shirt, being white, then the jacket, And his Instrument, of course leaving the space the Instrument, so not to struggle with the wet paint.
