Transcript of Ancillary magazine rejected shots

Ancillary magazine

rejected photos.

Shot 1This image is rejected as the ‘star’ is wearing a white shirt suggesting the innocence of her character. This is not the characterisation we wished to display. Also we planned to use a MS for the front cover, this shot is more of an MCU.

Shot 2

This shot was quite ideal for our front cover as the shot was the type we wished to use (MS). Despite this the character’s facial expression is quite plain and does not characterise her in the way we were attempting to display.

Shot 3

The gap between the two characters’ heads would be completely unconventional if used on a magazine front cover. This could be edited although it would be much easier to simply re-shoot the photo differently.

Shot 4In this image the character’s glance is too far downwards, making it appear as though the eyes are closed. Also, this character is the ‘victim’ of the soap opera and so it would be much more conventional to use a high-angle shot to portray vulnerability.

Shot 6This shot effectively displays the relationship between the two characters however the mixture of colours in this shot (white, black, grey and blue) would make it difficult when adding content such as cover lines or buttons to the magazine front cover. This shot is an MCU Two-shot, an MS or an MLS would have been mush more conventional.
