PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Houston Independent School District, Houston, Texas 2006-PresentEnglish TeacherResponsible for teaching English Language Arts to over 150 high school students per year including grading, planning, counseling, and researching at Scarborough High School.

Implemented literature circles which incorporated reading activities, journaling, two column notes, and conversations about text. This system reintroduced love of reading, created a sense of cohesion, and produced a more relaxed learning atmosphere, with 95% student engagement.

Successfully created word wall, crossword puzzles, sentence writing activities, and a bonus point system which motivated students to use vocabulary words properly in class.

Instituted point system which took off points for disruptive behavior and created performance scale for group work keeping students accountable for behavior as well as learning important workplace skills.

Coached students to develop more assertive communication skills with teachers and students which helped to generate more effective responses.

Developed individualized learning techniques to meet student needs and style which resulted in helping failing students improve grades.
