1. Introduction

Vision

To be an internationally top-ranked, research-driven, independent management institution that grooms future leaders for India and the world.

Mission

To create and disseminate research-based knowledge in management that influences scholarship, practice and policy.

To develop and enhance business leadership through innovative world class programmes in management.

To utilize the knowledge and expertise to engage with business, government and society, and to contribute to the welfare and development of the community at the local, national, and global levels.

To have distinguished faculty from India and abroad teach courses and provide a global perspective in Post Graduate and Executive Education programmes.

The School now offers a one-year MBA-equivalent Post Graduate Programme (PGP), a part-time Post Graduate Programme in Management for senior executives (PGPMAX), a part-time Management Programme for Family Business (MFAB) and a 5-year doctoral-equivalent Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and all these graduating class form the 5200 strong Alumni network of ISB. We also offer short-duration Executive Education programmes for middle and senior management (CEE), at present the alumni count for this programme stands at 17000. The recent accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has added another feather in the cap of ISB. This accreditation is not only proof of ISB’s status as a prestigious School but also of great benefit to alumni.

Alumni Relations Office

The Alumni Relations Office works towards building mutually beneficial relationships between the ISB and its alumni. We ensure that alumni are kept fully informed about the developments at the School, and offer a wide range of programmes, events and benefits for the alumni.

It is our goal to encourage and foster lifelong alumni participation, involvement, and commitment as our alumni are vital stakeholders in the advancement of the School. Currently, we have 7 domestic chapters and 4 overseas chapters in our Alumni group. The School continues to seek ways and means of engaging alumni in effective and meaningful ways. This handbook specifies various services that alumni can avail of. Please note these are changed/enhanced from time to time and this handbook is valid from April 2014 to March 2015, unless otherwise notified.

Alumni Association

The ISB Senate, and Alumni chapters located in various cities are critical components of the ISBAA. This section lists the composition of the ISB Alumni Association (ISBAA).

The Senate is your crucial link to the ISB Community. Contact your nearest Senate member or chapter representative to indicate your willingness to participate in and/or contribute to the School and the alumni network in a meaningful way. The names and contact details of the Senate and registered members are mentioned below and this will facilitate your involvement with the alumni association.

The goals of the Indian School of Business Alumni Association (ISBAA) are:

To be and to act as the Association of Alumni of INDIAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

HYDERABAD, INDIA or any of its branches as recognized by the Board

Promote, facilitate and develop stewardship leading to meaningful relationships

between alumni and School, as well as between alumni across classes – strengthen the

network

To further the interests of the Indian School of Business and to facilitate the school to

develop as a world class institution;

To encourage the continued flow of outstanding student candidates to the Indian School

of Business;

To assist the Indian School of Business in keeping its curriculum and educational

The ISB Senate currently consists of 4 elected members from the Alumni group and comprises of dedicated people who help the alumni association function. The Senate is a flat organization and it is kept this way to enable flexible and easy decision making. Members of the Senate are based in Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai & Australia.

Chapters

In addition to the Senate, the ISB Alumni association consists of 11 chapters, out of which 7 chapters are based in India and 4 chapters are based overseas. The domestic chapters operate in all the major metropolitan cities of India and the international chapters are spread over 3 continents. Staying involved with your local chapters is a great way of keeping in touch with the ISB community. If there is no chapter in your immediate area and there is a critical mass of ISB alums (minimum 40), you can contact the Senate about starting a new chapter.

II. Access into Campus & Usage of Facilities (Hyderabad and Mohali)

All alums are issued alumni ID cards by the Alumni Relations department after Graduation. One needs the ID card for entering the campus and at various other areas of the campus, like recreation Centre etc. In addition, the ID card serves as the library pass.

Please take care of the ID card. If it is lost, report the loss immediately to the Alumni Relations department at alumni_relations@isb.edu.You can also request for a new ID card and the same will be issued to you on a chargeable basis of Rs. 500/-

Alumni are allowed to be accompanied by their spouse and children below the age of 18, subject to informing the main gate on arrival and taking a valid visitor pass along with alumni id card. Alum spouses/children are allowed to visit the campus only when accompanied by the alum. They are also allowed to visit the campus on their own when:

They have an appointment with someone on the campus (they will be treated as a visitor to the campus and will have to take a visitor pass, with the proper procedure being followed)

They are coming to pick up an alum from the campus (they will be treated as a visitor and will have to collect a visitor pass, with the proper procedure being followed, and only on confirmation by the alum from any nearby extension phone)

Please note that alumni ID cards cannot be used by anyone other than the alum himself/herself. If found, alumn’s will be debarred from school for a period as decided by the school.

Driving and Parking Guidelines on campus

The traffic on the internal roads on campus may not be very heavy but please take care when you drive.

One Way Driving on Academic Centre Ring Road – (Hyderabad campus)

Two Wheeler riders and their passengers are required to wear helmets as per State Law

Park your vehicles only in the designated parking spaces

Comply with Indian driving rules, driving only on the left side of the road

Ensure that your vehicle's brakes, headlamps, and horns are working

Please maintain the campus speed limit of 30 kmph

Follow the signage on the road while driving

The ISB does not accept responsibility for damage to or loss of vehicles on its premises, or for damage to or loss of accessories or contents.

III. Facilities on Campus

1) Accommodation

Alumni are eligible to book accommodation on campus, subject to availability. (At the Hyderabad campus and the Mohali campus) Email requests pertaining to this; have to be sent to the Alumni Relations office, at least 3 working days in advance to book any accommodation on campus

The Housing area is a mere 10-minute walk from any building on the campus. The designs of the campus are intended to foster the development of a resident academic community. The housing for students, visiting executives, and faculty are in close proximity, so that all members of the ISB community can interact and socialize.

Four-bedroom Apartment Suite - Shared Accommodation

Each apartment has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a common sitting area. A television with a cable connection is provided. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, a single burner LPG stove with LP Gas, basic crockery, and cutlery. Each bedroom contains a bed, a study table and chair, book shelf, a wardrobe, and a split air conditioner. All the bathrooms have hot water facility. All the bedrooms have a voice and data port for the telephone and the Internet.

The cost of booking a room in the same is Rs.900/- per day (inclusive of taxes) for the Hyderabad campus and Rs. 900/- per day (inclusive of taxes) for the Mohali campus. Toiletries and towels cost extra.

Studio Apartments

Each studio apartment has a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom. All the rooms contain furniture and appliances similar to the four-bedroom suites. The studio apartments also have a microwave oven and a toaster. One data and one voice port is provided in the apartment. We give first preference to alums with families for the studio apartments, based on availability.

At the time of check-in, an Inventory list will be given to verify and sign. During the period of stay, any breakages or damages of furniture, fixtures and electrical appliances will be charged to the alum on a cost basis. Please note that consequential expenses would also be charged to the alum.

Individuals are advised to take care of personal belongings like laptop, mobile phone, jewelry, clothing, cash etc. ISB will not be responsible for any loss of items or theft.

The cost of booking the above is Rs.1600/-per day (inclusive of taxes) for the Hyderabad campus and Rs. 1600/- per day (inclusive of taxes) for the Mohali campus.

Alumni can book both these types of accommodation for a maximum of 60 days in a year, subject to availability. Monthly rates apply for usage beyond 25 days.

Executive Housing

Besides the above mentioned accommodation, alums can also book executive housing accommodation which includes rooms with centralized A/C, television, refrigerator and bathrooms with geyser. Tea/Coffee and catering facility is also available for residents and the complex houses a bar which is open from 19:30 hrs to 22:00 hrs. Please note that there is no room service facility in the Executive Housing complex.

The cost of booking a single room (Hyderabad Campus) is Rs.3500/- (plus taxes) per night and the cost of booking a double room (Hyderabad Campus) is Rs.4500/- (plus taxes) per night. Inclusive of Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please note: these rates are currently under revision and revised rates will be published as soon as we receive them.

The cost of booking an EH room (Mohali Campus) is Rs. 2775 (inclusive of taxes) per night.

Some tips

Ensure that all the power appliances in your apartment are switched off if you are going to be away for some time, to prevent mishaps and to save energy.

Avoid plugging in equipment when you are barefoot on a wet floor. It could lead to electrical shock.

Kindly write to alumni_relations@isb.edu if you wish to book any of the above mentioned accommodation at least 3 working days in advance. Please note that all these are subject to availability.

2) Recreation Centre

Alumni can use the recreation centre on campus on showing their ID card. Recreation center facilities are available on both the Hyderabad campus as well as the Mohali campus, however only a few facilities are operational at the Mohali campus currently.

Please provide the required details in the register before using the Recreation Centre facilities. Alumni spouses and children below the age of 18 can also avail of the facility, provided that they are accompanied by alumni. They will be required to sign in with their complete names while entering the recreation centre.

Please note this facility is not available to guest of alumni and if found misusing the facilities, alumni privileges will be revoked.

The recreation centre has the following facilities:

Fitness Centre (Hyderabad and Mohali Campus)

The Fitness Centre has flat and inclined benches with weights, steppers, stationary cycles, treadmills and a multi-station gym. A fitness instructor is available to assist at both campuses.

Swimming Pool

Guidelines for usage of the Facilities are provided at Recreation Centre. Please adhere to the same. Lockers are available for those who use the Swimming Pool and locker keys are to be returned to security on the same day. If the keys are misplaced, individual account would be debited to replenish the same. Swimmers should carry their own towels and swimming costumes for using the Swimming Pool.

The Mohali Campus swimming pool will be closed during winters with effect from Dec 1,

2013 to March 15, 2014.

Sports Facility (Hyderabad and Mohali campus)

The Recreation Centre at the Hyderabad campus has a squash court, a billiard room, tennis courts, basketball court, badminton, table tennis; Children’s play area, toddlers room etc. Please follow the rules of the respective areas.

The Recreation Centre at the Mohali campus has a squash court, table tennis, air hockey table, pool table and a volley ball court.

Note: Sports accessories such as rackets, balls, shuttle cocks etc. are to be brought by alumni. Please wear non-marking shoes when using the badminton or basket ball court.

Yoga Classes (Currently only at the Hyderabad Campus)

Yoga trainer will be available from Monday to Friday at SV4 K block common area.

Tennis Coach (Currently only at the Hyderabad Campus)

Tennis coach will be available from 17:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs from Tuesday to Sunday.

Squash Court (Currently only at Mohali Campus)

Coach will be available from 06.30 hrs to 10.30 hrs and 17.30 hrs to 21.30 hrs.

The ISB is not responsible for any accidents and other consequential issues arising out of usage of Recreation Centre facilities.

3) Learning Resource Centre (LRC) (Hyderabad and Mohali Campus)

The use of LRC services is purely for academic and personal use only. The services under no circumstances would be used for commercial purpose and all the services would be charged as per the fee structure given below:

Photocopying/Printing Services

Rs. 2/- will be charged per A4 sheet + Rs.100/- Courier charges within India (for less than 100 pages) and Rs.300/- (for more than 100 pages) and Rs. 500/- for Overseas couriers and Rs. 1000/- (for more than 100 pages).

The above charges are applicable only for printing/photocopy of articles from Academic Journals / Magazines or books.

However for any reference query on company profiles, market intelligence and Industry trends, data and analyst reports from various sources will be charged @ Rs. 2/- per A4 sheet or Rs.1,000/- per query (whichever is highest) + Courier and handling charges as mentioned above.

Borrowing Facility

Alumni members are allowed to use our borrowing facility as per the following terms & conditions:

Alums would be allowed to borrow up to 2 books at a time

The books have to be returned within 3 weeks from the date that they were borrowed

Alums have to deposit Rs. 5000/- with the LRC if they want to borrow any books. The amount of Rs. 5000 has been arrived at after considering the average price of the books in the LRC. The payment of Rs. 5000 can be made either by cheque or by cash. Alums would be issued a receipt by the LRC after they have paid the deposit

If alum fails to return any book within 3 weeks, an overdue charge of Rs. 25 per day per book will be levied

The Rs. 5000 would be refunded to the alums when they return all the books that are lying with them, assuming they don't want to borrow other books in place of the returned books and assuming that there are no overdue charges that have not been paid

If the outstanding overdue amount is Rs. 1000 or more, the LRC will temporarily terminate the alum's right to avail of the LRC facilities. The alum can continue using the facilities after returning the books and paying the overdue amount

Textbooks / Reference Books / Journals will not be issued, however photocopies will be arranged for the requested chapters / articles from books / Journals as per the Copyright Guidelines of ISB. Books which are in high demand will not be issued out.

Database Access: We are currently providing access to Hoover’s database as part of lifelong learning services.

** Alumni members are free to use LRC facility whenever they are at Hyderabad or Mohali for reference. The alumni members need to carry their Identity cards whenever they visit the LRC.

**The Director, Learning Resource Centre has the right to cancel the LRC membership of any Alumni Member if found violating the rules and regulations, continuously.

4) Lifelong Learning Services (can carry a charge)

Elective course audits: As a part of the Lifelong learning services alums are given the opportunity to audit the various elective courses that are offered on both the campuses between terms 5 to 8. The alumni relations team will send out emails pertaining to the course details a few weeks in advance.

Invitations to conferences and seminar: The School also provides numerous opportunities to alums to participate in conferences and seminars, covering a wide range of subjects like: finance, marketing, IT etc.

Workshops in person: A number of workshops are also conducted in various chapters coverings topics like: leadership, Negotiation analysis and networking. These workshops are conducted by renowned speakers and faculty members.

IV. Online Discussion Forums

After graduation, alums are also given access details to the Alumni Portal that helps them to connect not only to the School but also to the other alums all over the world. We now have ‘Discussion Forums’ as a part of the new and improved Alumni Portal.

You can use these forums to post threads and discussions on various topics and they have been clearly demarcated into the following categories:

General Discussion

Classifieds

Various Class forums

Various Clubs forums

All alums can view the different forums and but will be able to post only in General Discussion forums, Classifieds forum and the various clubs forums.

You will be able to view the discussion threads and post a reply on all the Class forums but you will be able to create a discussion thread only for your own class. You will not be able to create discussion threads for any other classes. You can subscribe to the forums as a daily digest or weekly update.

The Alumni Relations Office encourages the use of Discussion Forums to post general queries and classifieds rather than using the email facility to avoid spamming. This facility is in its beta phase and we are still working on making it more convenient to use and more effective.

V. Usage of ISB Logo

Every communication from and about the ISB to the public affects the image and reputation of the organization. Advertisements, web-pages, business cards, newsletters are the face of the ISB to the world and represent the School’s values, character and strength.

Our alumni are our ambassadors to the outside world and therefore, their conversations about the ISB, media interactions, and activities shape what others think of the School. We therefore encourage each one of you to kindly adhere to the below mentioned brand guidelines.

Using the ISB logo indicates an official sanction by the School, so please have proper authorization before using it for any collateral or promotional material (For example: forco-branding events in association with ISB). However, all such communication must be evaluated by the School.

Senate members and chapter representations are allowed to use the ISB Alumni Association (ISBAA) logo on their Alumni Association visiting cards only. Please get the same evaluated by the department of communications.
