Environmental Sustainability
Auko-Tex Group does understand that environment goes with reaction theory- it returns what we give to it. If the cycle of nature collapses somewhere, the earth cries and we pay for it directly or indirectly. ATG strives hard to decontaminate the emitting air out of the factory, gives efforts to decompose every drop of contaminated water and devotes to enrich the soil.
Projects Relating to Environmental Sustainability:
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI):
- In 2012, ATG joined BCI based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its aim is to bring together producers, ginners, mills,
traders, manufacturers, retailers, brands and civil society organizations in unique global community.
- The focuses are 1. to demonstrate the inherent benefits of cotton production for farmers 2. to reduce
impact of water and pesticide use on human and environmental health.
- BCI cares about matters of women, child labor, wages, health, safety and forced labor.
- Through the program ATG uses around 60% of better cotton which is quite more than its yearly
commitment of 20% of uses.
Organic Trade Association (OTA):
- Yasin Knittex Industries Ltd is an associate member of OTA since 22 April 2013.
- Its mission is to promote and protect organic farming and trade to the benefit of environment,
farmers, public and economy.
Water Foot-print Network:
- ATG has been a regular partner since April, 2013. One of its main purpose is to give guidelines for
decreasing water use in the factory (ATG’s water uses per kg fabric production decreased from 235
liter to 157 liter with water foot print) of water for per kg fabric production, with introduction of CP
157 liter and after PaCT 94 Liker).
- In fact, Water Footprint Network takes a much broader perspectives to address the impacts caused by
population growth, urbanization, climate change and unsustainable uses.
Cleaner Production (CP) under PaCT:
- ATG joined IFC-supported CP in 2011. It addresses the impacts caused by population growth, urbanization,
climate change and unsustainable uses.
- It focuses on wet processes and energy savings.
- Benefits of CP Project in Auko-Tex Group are saving energy by replacing the T8 fluorescent light to T5 one
and the conventional motor to servo motor for the Vacuum iron table.
- It also saves energy by insulating the steam pipe lines and boiler feed tank.
Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT):
- Being selected as the best Cleaner Production (CP) factory by CP project, Auko-Tex Group had
been approached by IFC to join a deep program called PaCT in January 2013.
- Main focus of the Project is deep dive for cleaner production, energy, water footprint, carbon
footprint and zero discharge and to gain competitive advantages in the long run with
environmental sustainability.
- In PaCT, ATG invested A. $ 70000/= for installation of a new lean burner in gas generator B. $
40,000/= for boiler, Cochran C. $ 25,000/= for water flow meter, ETP and utilities D. 85,000/=
for lights E. 40,000/= for ROI. And it is expected that ATG would pay back the cost in 2 years.
H2O Insight Project:
- In 2013, ATG joined this website-based H2O Insight Project developed by C*Insight to gather data
on wastewater quality and control methods through the supply chain.
- The online Project allowed for the submission of wastewater and water use for sharing laboratory
test, certifications, discharge permits and regional regulatory standards, and these should meet the
sustainable water group guideline like sampling and traditional parameters, chemical constituents,
zero tolerance activities, publicly owned treatment works along with other requirements.
Clean Development Mechanism (CDM):
- Clean Development mechanism is one of the key components of the Kyoto Protocol taken voluntarily by
stakeholders.
- CDM focuses reducing GHG emissions.
Carbon Neutral Project:
- It is a self-initiated research program by ATG to be well aware of the effects of Greenhouse Gas Emission.
Our study on research papers gave us some recommendations like enactment of public necessary laws, reducing energy, replacing fossil fuels with renewables, introduction of advanced technologies for reducing energy and procuring energy efficient products with clear concepts.
Environment Management System (EMS):
- ATG identified some specific areas like air, water, noise and soil pollution to be taken care.
- ATG understands the impacts on environment from electricity, generators, boiler operation, production,
packaging, laboratory operation, office activities, transports, general storages and chemical storages.
Its environment management procedures describe waste handling & disposal procedure, wastewater disposal procedure, sharp material handling & disposal procedure, utility management procedure, fire safety procedure and chemical waste handling & disposal procedures.
ISO 14001:2004
- With its process, ATG is nearing to get the certificate on ISO 14001:2004, internationally accepted model for
Environmental Management System.
- It includes a framework for continual improvement of environmental performance, control, and regulatory
compliance. URS Bangladesh Limited has been working with ATG as its consulting firm.
3R Project (as Coming Project)
3R is a new Project with ATG. The principles of 3Rs are to reduce waste, reuse and recycle resources and
products.
- “Reducing” means choosing to use items with care to reduce the amount of waste generated.
- “Reusing” involves repeated use of items or parts of items which still have usable aspects.
- “Recycling” means the use of waste itself as resources. In fact, some of the ideas of 3R- “Reduce, Reuse and
Recycle”, have been idealized and practiced by us under some other banners with different Auko-Tex
Projects.
Tree Plantation Program
Auko-Tex Group distributes a huge number of saplings among its workers and staffs twice in a year at the time of religious festival
leaves. Through this distribution, we participate in tree plantation program which ultimately reduces green house effects controlling
carbon and supplying oxygen to the environment.
IN TWO RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL LEAVES, EVERY WORKER RECEIVES SAPLINGS FOR THE
PLANTATION IN HIS/HER HOME.
ATG SUPPORTS UN GLOBAL GOAL NO. 15 “ LIFE ON LAND” FOR
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY.
MedicalWe segregate three types of wastes:
A. Sharp waste ( red container-Infusion set, needle , surgical blade and glass ware)B. Infectious waste (Yellow container –cotton, tissue , bandage)C. Liquid waste ( blue container –Blood, waste water)
An agreement has been signed in order to manage the medical waste with PRISM Bangladesh (OnlyMedical waste management specialist company in the country ) . In every 15 day, we send these wastageto PRISM.
ElectricalA Contract has been signed with the Electric goods supplier where all the electric wastes have been sentto the suppliers in order to recycle at there end.
SludgeEvery quarterly, we make the sludge in the form of portable cake and send to them to the brick field
where sludge is being burnt at the temperature of 2800 degree C and in the process hazards of sludgeburn away . In this regard, a contract has been made with the brick field company.
Waste Management
Social Sustainability
We know, the spirit of a soul-bound team is immense, especially when everybody understands the
importance of works in a well-suited corporate environment. In fact, benefits or profits of a company are
nothing but the returns of what employees contribute and a company offers to perform.
Projects Relating to Social Sustainability:
HER+ Project
- In June 2013, Bestseller encouraged Auko-Tex Group to join HER+ Project financed by some
Western organizations.
- Some 79 peer female trained health educators disseminate their knowledge and learning among
the female workers.
- Project’s aim is to educate female workers along with their family members for increasing their
awareness about health, hygiene, vaccination, nutrition, sanitation and HIV/AIDS.
- ATG is also giving sanitary napkins to female workers at no cost.

Solar Power Project:For the Renewable power generation, solar power project is considered to be undertaken. At the initial stage for security light, outer perimeter and for the stairs of the factory buildings are planned to connect with the solar power system. In next phase, solar power would be used for running the Factory.
Rain Water Harvesting: Rain water harvesting is considered to undertake for using huge rain water in the rainy season. This water would be a valuable source of water for the Factory.
Use of Treated ETP Water for Toilet Flushing, Gardening and Irrigation: Huge water is being used for flushing of the toilets and gardening in the Factory and irrigation purpose. Since significant amount of treated ETP water is being drained out, this water would be used for said purpose.
Push Sensor/ Tapping System: Huge water and Electric power are being misused because of negligence and lack of awareness among the workers. Sensor system for using of the water and electricity would be introduced.
Heat Recovery for the Generator (Co-Generation): Exhaust hot air from the generator would be used for co-generation with EGB (Exhaust Gas Boiler), Chillier and/or Water Heater.
Use of Natural Light for the Floor: Some arrangements would be worked out to inflow the natural lights to the floors of the Factory. This would reduce considerable energy for required lighting purpose.
Future Plan for Environment
Continuous Sludge Recovery System: We are having the practice of making sludge cakes and send it to brick fields. In future continuous sludge recovery system would be installed for faster and effective sludge recovery.

Tree plantation programme will be undertaken in the available vacant lands of this company in bigger scale. Besides, purchasing a tea estate as a part of our carbon neutral program is under active consideration.
