Adair County News

Perhaps it wouldbe of interest to some of thereaders of the News to hear fromthis part of Texas

Coleman county isa° beautifulcountry well timbered and water ¬

edwell timbered here meansplenty of fire wood and post timbergNot much timber is used inthis country houses are smallandnothing is used in fencingbut barbed wire and a small mesquite post

This county is a very fine farm-ing

¬

country you canraise almostanything that grows We havehad plenty of rain this seasoncrops are out of sight Corn willmake 10 barrel per acre wheatfrom 20 to 40 bushels oats from50 to 100 and advanced cottonone half to a bale per acre Wecant tell yet what the whole crop

will make as some is just comingup Does it pay a man to farmin this country One man cancultivate sixty acres of cottonto make one half bale per acrehe would have thirty bales atfifty dollars making 1500 clear

I as the seed pay for picking gin ¬withbtobacco There is a large cropthis year The new comers haveput in a great deal of fresh landA large pasture of over 100000upIt opportunity to get a home The

I

price ranges from three to twen ¬

ty dollars per acre This coun¬

try is also well supplied withmineral coal is found almost anywhere along the Colorado riverand oil in the eastern part of thegreatscattle country but the ranchesare being cut up for the benefitof home seekers ThoroughbredPlaceoof the longhorned Spanish breedRoping is fast going out of fash ¬

ion but it is quite a show to anEastern fellow to see a cow boytake in after a big fouryear oldand fairY ground and tie himready for branding all in eightteen seconds

This is a great place for the peo¬

ple to have picnics roping con¬

tAs this is a leisuretime with most all classes of peo¬

pre and being one of that classat present we will pen a fereminiscences of that good ofState Kentucky

When we visited in your Statetwo years ago we were made towonder at the progress of yourtown since we left it fourteenyears ago Not only had yourtown improved to a great extentbut the people of your countyalso farming and stock too haveimproved wonderfully

I could not help calling to mindthe days when your county offic ¬

ers were men that are now pass ¬

ed over the Sands of Time andnow the young men have steppedinto there placesboys thatcwere beardless youths when Ilived there are now holding of-

or owning farms and businesshouses of your county

I attended your county fairwhile there and would like toagain if distance did uot separate

was there time seemed to roll upbefore me when the fair groundwas first laid out when W HHudson used to drive Old DickElmo and beat the Bluegrass boysand Adair county men wouldthrow their hats up to the tops ofthose little oak that stood aroundthe grandstand I believe I willgive a whoop for him now t

After the fair was over I wentout to my old homestead aboutthree miles south of Columbiafound the same old mansion onthe same old hill but alas I itsoccupants were all gone withnothing to remind one of thembut the small mounds that covertheir silent tombs Thus passesesedtwelve years and the nexttwelve years more may bringabout the same contrast in ourmemory

Now Mr Editor a few itemsfrom our State will most assured-ly

¬

be of some interest to some ofyour people We are in a goodpart of the State It will producealmost ony thing that land withgood cultivation will producehave a huge prospects for WeI

a good crop of wheat andmeadows not so good as last yearbut pastures never better at this

seasonThepeople are in good cheer

and are preparing for a countyfair in October This countrywill raise big corn crops and bighogs if it will rain enough Weare about 30 miles from the Kan¬

here as it is everywhere youhave to work for a sustainanceand the further you go West theiharder you have to strive tokeep up with the progress andthe mode of living Land isworth about as much here as inthe Bluegrass of Kentucky andis equaly as good and raisesblue grass As I didnt finishtelling what I was doing I willstate on the start that what I amnot doing would make a longerlist than what I am doing but at
