1. Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Instructor are ranked faculty. Lecturer, Visiting Professor, and Instructional Faculty are full-time for one full academic year. Adjuncts are part-time non-tenure track faculty members who are paid for each class they teach. Faculty members on modified retirement are also counted as part-time.
2. FTE stands for “Full-Time Equivalent”.
3. Table 1 (Headcount and Average Class Size by Discipline, Lower/Upper/Graduate Division) of the departmental report is not comparable with Table 1 in reports prior to 2008 because the methodology was changed. The methodology was changed to count the lecture and lab components of lecture/lab classes as separate classes if they meet separately, resulting in an increase in the headcount and number of sections in subject areas that offer lecture/lab classes. Previously a lecture/ lab class was counted as ONE class. The methodology was changed because the lecture and lab components are taught as separate organized classes, and counting them separately gives a more accurate average class size.
4. Lower, Upper and Graduate division semester credit hours (SCH) are based on course numbers.
5. This report does not include courses that start after the official day of record for the Fall semester.
6. Beginning Fall 2016, UHD implemented a policy that allows new students to declare their major upon admission to the University, if eligible. This results in a larger number of new students declaring majors than in previous years. This change is partially responsible for the increase in undergraduate majors (and decrease in undeclared majors) throughout the university.
7. The seminar classes (Subject code = UHD) that started in Fall 2014 are assigned to departments based on the department of the instructor of record. There is one exception to this
method of assigning the classes, two sections taught by a University College faculty member are assigned to the Urban Education department because they are being taught for that department.
8. The enrollments of sections with composite codes were combined. For example, if CRN 11111 with a composite code of AA had an enrollment of 10 students, CRN 11112 with a composite code of AA had an enrollment of 5 students, and CRN 11113 with a composite code of AA had an enrollment of 6 students, the course would be combined to one class with an enrollment of 21 students.
9. In cases of reorganization at the university, the prior years’ information (students, graduates, courses) is also listed with the current structure to allow easier and more consistent comparison across time. This includes the following programs: Master of Security Management program moved from the College of Public Service to the Davies College of Business effective Fall 2014. Computer and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Technology departments were reorganized into the Computer Science and Engineering Technology and the
Mathematics and Statistics departments effective Fall 2014.
10. Air Force Science and Military Science credit hours and faculty are not included in calculations for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences nor for the Department of Social Sciences.
