Academic Aspects of the Scientist Training Programme

Dr Richard P. HugtenburgSenior Lecturer in Medical Physics

Richard P. Hugtenburgr.p.hugtenburg@swansea.ac.uk

• The Swansea has been running an MSc in Medical Radiation Physics since 1993, recruiting around 120 students to the programme in that time

• The programme has been IPEM accredited since 2001. The School of Engineering has hosted the course since 2008

• A Modernised MSc in Clinical Science (Medical Physics) at Swansea has recently been commissioned by NLIAH and will run in 2012 subject to accreditation standards set by the Department of Health (England)

Background

Richard P. Hugtenburgr.p.hugtenburg@swansea.ac.uk

• The College has a strong portfolio of MSc (11) and MRes (7) taught course graduate programmes

• Contributes courses on research and professional topics, including safety, ethics and regulation; computational modelling; physiological measurement; and project management

The College of Engineering

Richard P. Hugtenburgr.p.hugtenburg@swansea.ac.uk

Hosts a 20 credit module, ‘Introduction to the Practice of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering’:

• Facilitates the teaching of anatomy and physiology at M-level

• Provides material on epidemiology and statistics, body composition and clinical radiobiology

• Presents an overview of clinical science practice in the Division; incl. audiology, electrophysiology, rehabilitation engineering and mass-spectrometry

The College of Medicine

Richard P. Hugtenburgr.p.hugtenburg@swansea.ac.uk

• Specialist topics in the course (4 modules) are taught by Clinical Scientists from ABMU and Cardiff and Vale:
