Holiday Cost CuttersYou’ve probably heard the old saying “It’s the thought thatcounts.” Well, it’s true. Ask any of your loved ones—a big,expensive gift is not what is important. So, this year, give yourfriends and family something from the heart, not the mall. Hereare some ideas: •Bake something delicious and sweet. •Create coupon books with such services as a free night of baby-

sitting or a free massage. •Dig up some old photographs that your family or friends may

have forgotten. Purchase inexpensive frames for them, and thendecorate the frames with paint, seashells or anything you desire.

Keep the holidays creative and fun—your loved ones will adoreanything if it’s from you!

You’re Invited‘Tis the season of brotherhood and joy, and to celebrate! We areholding a holiday celebration on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at2:00 pm. Delicious dishes will tantalize your tastebuds asgorgeous carols fill the air! For a night to remember with yourstaff and friends of Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation, don’tmiss out on this special seasonal party!!

White Chicken Chili• 1 lb. white beans, soaked overnight and

drained• 6 cups chicken broth• 2 cloves garlic, minced• 2 medium onions, chopped• 1 tablespoon olive oil• 2 4-ounce cans chopped green chiles• 2 teaspoons ground cumin• 1 1/2 teaspoons. dried oregano• 1 teaspoon ground cloves• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper• 4 cups diced cooked chicken• 3 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese• 1 jalapeño pepper, chopped (optional)Combine beans, chicken broth, garlic and half theonions in a large soup pot and bring to a boil.Reduce heat and simmer until beans are verysoft. Add additional water if necessary.

In a skillet, saute remaining onions in oil untiltender. Add chiles and seasonings and mixthoroughly. Add to bean mixture. Add chickenand continue to simmer 1 hour.

Serve topped with grated cheese. Garnish withcilantro, chopped fresh tomato, salsa, and/orguacamole. Serve with fresh warmed tortillas orchips.

Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding• 4 eggs• 2 cups milk • 1 cup white sugar • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract • 4 cups cubed French bread • 2 bananas, sliced • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chipsPreheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x5 inch loafpan. In a large mixing bowl, mix eggs, milk, sugar,and vanilla until smooth. Stir in bread, bananas,and chocolate chips, and let rest 5 minutes forbread to soak. Pour into prepared pan.

Line a roasting pan with a damp kitchen towel.Place loaf pan on towel inside roasting pan, andplace roasting pan on oven rack. Fill roasting panwith water to reach halfway up the sides of theloaf pan. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, oruntil a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

A Historic TimeOne of these days, you’ll be looking back on thesedays saying, “Remember when...” Here are someideas to help you preserve those memories.•Cover a shoebox with construction paper.

Decorate the outside of the box to reflect yourpersonality. Make sure you put your name andthe date somewhere on the box.

•Collect photographs and assorted items that youassociate with your life right now. You might findnewspaper articles about movies or music youlike. Put all of these items into the box.

•Record conversations when you have your friendsor family together. (Christmas would be a perfectopportunity to do this!) Label the recording andput it in the box along with the rest of the stuff.

•Write a letter or brief note explaining what thevarious items are and why they are important toyou. Now you have your very own time capsule! Place

the box in a safe storage area. You’ll always have areminder of these special days.
