Are you ready to show your Miner Fever? It’s that time of the year for some
wicked fun, Homecoming 2007! The Student Organization Advisory Board
(SOAB), Campus Activities Board (CAB), and the Student Development Center
(SDC) are delighted to invite student organizations / UTEP Departments to join us
in this year’s dynamite Homecoming Games. The week is jam packed with
activities for everyone’s pleasure. If you have any questions or concerns contact

2007 Homecoming Activities

1. All Homecoming registration forms (page 23) must be turned in by
Monday, October 1st, 2007 by 12:00 p.m. No late entries will be accepted.
Please return registration forms to the Student Development Center at 106
Union West.
a. Only officially registered student organizations through the SDC and
UTEP Departments are allowed to participate.
i. All student organizations registration packets either new or
renewal must be turned in to the SDC by October 1st, 2007.
b. Organizations and departments must fill out the Homecoming
registration form in its entirety and check off all the events which
they are going to participate in.
c. If your organization or department selects an event and fails to
show up, the organization will be deducted 15 points from their
total score.
2. No application will be processed without the $30 entry fee (check or dept.
transfer only). All checks should be made payable to the Student
Development Center.
3. Each packet must contain an organization or department’s roster. Please
include the following:
a. Names as they appear on the Miner Gold Card.
b. Students ID Numbers (800 numbers).

c. Only members on your organization’s active roster may be included
on your Homecoming Roster.
4. General Rules:
a. Sign in will take place 15 minutes prior to the event’s start time.
Students must present their Miner Gold cards to the event staff and
will not be allowed to participate without it.
b. A team will be disqualified for all homecoming activities if there are
any un-registered members participating in any of the competitions,
except from the community service event: penny wars.
c. Participation points will only be granted to those who are on the
homecoming roster. Rosters cannot be altered after it has been
turned in on Monday, October 1st.
d. Alcohol may not be present at any homecoming events. If any
participant or member affiliated with the organization/department
arrives to an event intoxicated the entire organization will be
disqualified and the individual(s) will be referred to Judicial Affairs
in the Dean of Students Office.
e. Lip Sync participants must submit an edited CD for approval
Wednesday, October 3rd, by 5:00 p.m. to the Student Development
Center Office 106 Union West. NOTE: Cassette tapes will not be
accepted. (Refer to Lip Sync rules on page 15 for more info).
f. Participants are responsible for showing up at events on time. No
events will be delayed based on a participants’ tardiness, please be
there 15 minutes before the event’s indicated starting time to sign in.
g. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. The Student
Organization Advisory Board, Campus Activities Board and the
Student Development Center reserve the right to disqualify any team
for any violations of the rules.
h. Point totals will be updated once a day by 5:00 p.m. and displayed
on the Student Development Center window.

Pageant Description:
The 2007 Homecoming Pageant production is titled, "Miner Night Fever" and
is free to all current UTEP students with a valid UTEP ID. Come support your
fellow classmates and your Student Government Association as we crown the
2007 Homecoming Court on Sunday, October 7th, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. We'll be
crowning the King and Queen, Prince and Princess and Duke and Duchess. The
pageant will include music and dance numbers by the contestants, as well as a
couple of special guest performers such as the Ysleta High school, over several
different decades. All contestants will be given an opportunity to demonstrate
their "Miner Fever" for UTEP as well as pride for the organizations they represent
and the entire campus.
Student Government will be awarding prizes to the top three organizations with
the highest percentage of attendance at the pageant. Organizations must have 35
percent of their organization in attendance at the Miner Night Fever pageant.
A sign in sheet will be available at the Magoffin Auditorium entrance. This list will
be verified through the SDC member roster. The top two organizations will also
be awarded with a VIP section at the Homecoming Party at Club 101 on Friday,
October 12th.
Please come and support the 2007 Homecoming Pageant sponsored by SGA.

The Bankin’ Rules:
Each organization will have an assigned container. For every penny collected your
organization will receive 1 point. For every $50 bill collected, your organization will
receive 50,000 points. Silver coins and all other bills will result in a deduction from
the total (see money breakdown below). The organization with the most points win.
Organizations may place any increment of U.S. currency in any container to win the
competition. All monies collected will be given to the El Paso Shelter for Battered
Women.

This is a costume contest that allows a representative or a group from your
organization to dress up like a band, TV, movie character, or rock star from the
70’s. You will strut your stuff in front of the judges, and the best costume will win
you some points.
The Outfittin’ Rules:
Your organization/department will be required to create one costume
representing this year’s theme, “Miner Fever Disco Daze.”
Your organization may shout a slogan, or phrase if you wish to help
embody your costume.
Participants wearing vulgar/revealing costumes will be disqualified for this
event.
Costumes will be judged on creativity, originality and representation of the
theme.

You say MINERS, I say UTEP! “Fight Miners Fight. Win Miners, Win!”
Your organization has to present a Miner Fever Spirit Cheer that can be
implemented at any Athletic event. The judges will select the most crowd pleasing
cheer and it will be implemented during spirit events through out the week led by
a member of the winning organization.
Hip Hip Hooray…The Rules:
Your organization will create a cheer/ chant to cheer on the UTEP Miners.
Your presentation of the cheer should be no longer than one minute, and
can include any spirit props, face paint, or hand gestures
Participants wearing vulgar/revealing costumes will be disqualified for this
event.
Any vulgar, or obscene language will not be tolerated and can lead to
disqualification.
Cheers will be judged on creativity, originality, and spirit.

Sing your lungs out, shake your body, if you’re good, we’ll applaud. If not watch
out for the gong! This game is purely for silly fun, and you get bonus points for
dressing up per organization. It’s Krazyoke!!
The Singing Rules:
Each organization will have no more than 7 members on stage at a time.
Participants will choose a song from the karaoke selection, and perform for
the crowd (if you have a song or group in mind, please let the staff know
so we can have it ready for you).
Each song will play for no longer than 3 minutes in length.
Order of contestants will chosen according to sign in.
The crowd will decide who they like, and who gets the gong.
Once the gong has been rung, participants will be asked to step down.
All students are encouraged to participate, and organizations with creative
costumes (i.e., bands, singers, actors, etc.) get additional bonus points.

Rock and Roll Rules:

either the song or artist or both depending on the judge’s instructions.
3. The contestants will have only 15 seconds to record their answers on the
papers provided and show them to the judges immediately after the time is
up.
4. The members may consult with their partners only; if any help from the
outside audience is heard, this will be grounds for disqualification for the
pair, and/or the question will be thrown out.
5. For each correct response one point will be awarded; no points will be
awarded or deducted for any incorrect answers.
6. The organizations with the most points will win the first, second, and third
places accordingly.
7. In the event of a tie, a rapid fire round will decide the first, second, and
third place winners. After the last question of the rapid-fire round, 20
seconds will be given to allow contestants to finish recording their answers.

This game will test your psychedelic knowledge of trivia questions based on
movies or TV shows either made in the 70’s or having story lines set in the 1970’s.
Lights, Camera…Rules:
1. Each organization will be allowed to have 2 members participate.

actress, the year it was released or questions about a certain movie.
3. The contestants will have 15 seconds to record their answers on the papers

not too much, as you flashback to ATARI days.
The Gamin’ Rules:
1. Each organization will have no more than two representatives.
2. The games will last a total of five minutes each. The player with the highest
score will advance.
3. In the event of a tie, there will be a quick 3 minute round until a winner is
declared. (Game over counts as a loss in any round).
4. A single elimination bracket system will be followed and the winners
advance to the finals.

“That’s the way uh huh, uh huh, I like it.” Dance to the music, shake your hips,
play out a movie scene or skit, dress up in funky costumes, but noooo singing. It’s
lip sync, yeah! Get ready to boogie on down.
The Dancin Rules:
1. Deadline to submit your edited CD is Wednesday, October 3th by 12:00
p.m. to the Student Development Center 106 Union West. NO TAPES.
Your CD must be reviewed by the Homecoming Committee. NO
EXCEPTIONS.
2. The order of performance will be chosen Friday, October 5th at 3:00 p.m.
in the Faculty Staff Lounge, Second Floor Union East.
3. Vulgar language or obscene gestures will not be tolerated and will lead to
disqualification. All music with inappropriate words must be edited.
4. Teams will have a total of 7 minutes: 1 minute to setup, 5 minutes to
perform and 1 minute to clean afterwards.
5. If the stage is left a mess, your organization will be disqualified from this
event.
6. Your skit must not exceed the 7 minute time limit. If your team goes over
time, your organization will be deducted 25 points automatically and an
additional 10 points per minute. DO NOT GO OVER TIME.
7. Participants cannot touch judges or spectators or bring audience members
on stage/into act. Doing so will lead to disqualification.

Did you see that flying disc? Oh wait, it was just a Frisbee. Are you fast enough,
can you jump and touch the sky? Come play this out of sight, mind-blowing
game. Bust a move, not an eye! Catch the Fever, catch the Ultimate Frisbee.
The Soarin’ Rules:
1. Time: Each game will be five minutes long with no stoppage of play.
2. Teams: Five players are required to start the game, if less than five players
are present by game start, your team will be required to forfeit.
3. Initiate Play – The game begins with both teams lining up in their respective
end zone. The defense throws (kickoff) the disc to the offense.
4. Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any forward
direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with
the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the
disc from where they caught the disc. The defender guarding the thrower
("marker") counts out the stall count. No backward throws are allowed.
5. Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone,
the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
6. Change of possession -- When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds,
drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the
disc and becomes the offense.
7. Substitutions -- Players may be substituted only after a point is scored.
8. Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and
screens are also prohibited. A pick or screen consists of interfering a player
from catching the disc. If contact occurs, a foul will be called.
9. Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs.
When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was
retained. The referee will dictate if the play is to be redone.
10. Brackets: Team brackets will decide who advances to the next rounds,
single elimination rules will be followed.

We will have music, food and lots of fun!
Rules and Regulations:
You can begin to create your float, but all floats must be assembled
during this event.
No alcohol or pets can be present at the float making party.
No spray paint on concrete.
Points will be deducted if an organization’s area is not cleaned.
Additional Information:
We will begin lining up floats at 7:00 p.m. Your float MUST be present
no later than 7:30 p.m.
o Late arrivals will result in disqualification. You can participate in
the parade, however you will not be judged. NO EXCEPTIONS.
There is limited access to power so please charge any power tools prior
to this event.
Security will remain with the floats all night.

2007 HOMECOMING PARADE
FACT SHEET
DATE: Friday, October 12, 2007
PARADE THEME: Miner Fever – Disco Daze
JUDGING BEGINS: 10:00 a.m.
PARADE BEGINS: 12:15 p.m. (line up is promptly at 11:15 a.m.)
REGISTRATION FORM DUE: October 1, 2007 12:00 p.m.
Awards & Judging:
Each judge will receive one copy of the score sheets, which will list each float,
their order in the parade and the organization/department it is representing. The
scoring sheets will list the four (4) categories for judging: Beauty, Theme,
Costume, and Creativity. (Each award-winning float will be presented with prize
package designated from their category.) Scoring for each category will be from
zero (0) for not meeting the requirements to five (5) for excellence. The total
number of points that you can receive for the four categories is twenty (20).
**Failure to comply with rules and regulations and/or safety requirements
outlined below may result in disqualification. **
Rules & Regulations:
1. Each float entered must have completed registration form and a
conceptual drawing/picture of the float along with a written description
of the float to Student Development Center (SDC) 106 Union West no
later than October 1, 2007 at 12:00 p.m.
2. Entries must follow safety requirements. Initial inspection of floats will
occur during the Float Making Party. A final safety inspection will take
place a minimum of one hour prior to the parade. If your float/vehicle
does not meet these requirements you will not be allowed in the parade.
3. Entries must be viewable for all age groups. Any entries deemed
inappropriate by SDC staff or judges will not be allowed in the parade.
4. Floats or vehicles should clearly state the organization/department name
on both sides.
5. No smoking on or near floats.
6. No Animals or Pets are allowed in the parade.
7. Assigned area for float making party must be kept clean. Building areas
left with trash and other items prior to judging will be disqualified.
NOTE: Once you leave the Rudolph parking lot for the parade, you may
return and disband your float. It is your responsibility to disassemble your
float and place remains in the proper disposable areas.

8. Each organization/department is responsible for the towing or hauling of
their float.
Float Design:
1. Dimensions: no float should exceed 14’ from the ground to the top of the
float. Maximum width 20’ and length 40’.
2. Decorations must be secured to the float.
3. Music must pertain to theme of float and appropriate for all ages.
4. Banners must pertain to theme of float and safely attached to float.
Safety Requirements:
Cars, trucks and trailers must all be road safe and the driver must have a valid
driver’s license and insurance.
Road Safety is considered but not limited to:
1. The vehicle’s driver must be licensed and have current insurance.
2. No one is allowed to get off or get on vehicle/float during the parade. You
are not allowed to stop during the parade.
3. Float riders must have a means of support whether it is a railing, back
support, seat belt. No one is allowed to sit or stand on the front/hood/top
of vehicle/float during the parade.
4. Design must allow for quick exit for all passengers on the vehicle and float.
5. Tires, wheels and brake system must be in good working condition and
able to perform normal driving functions.
6. If towing a trailer, follow all manufacturers’ specifications concerning
maximum tow and tongue weight limits. Proper towing device must be
installed. The parade route includes turning and downhill streets.
7. Exhaust system must be free of cracks. System should extend 12” beyond
exterior of float. It must not make contact with float.
8. Muffler must be clear of running gear. Must shield muffler if near
combustible objects.
9. Gas tank should be load free of decorations.
10. Electrical system should be for automotive use only. Circuits above 30 volts
must be ungrounded.
11. A fire extinguisher should be on all floats. One will be provided by the
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department upon request.
12. The drivers view must not be impeded. The driver should also have two
ways to exit vehicle.
13. Ventilation must be provided for possible exhaust leaks.
All decorations must be fire retardant.
