SVDP/Outreach Corner
Books4Hope: In March 2016, Emma Davis, an 8th grader at the St. Lucy School, asked if the St. Lucy Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul could use books for the children of those served by the Conference at the parish outreach office. Emma prepared a flyer and collected gen-tly used books from her friends and family during March and April. One of Emma’s biggest donors was Holly Wil-son, a 3rd grader at St Lucy School. In early May Emma delivered the books she collected to two of the St. Lucy Conference members, Linda Kelly and Lawrence Cabral at our parish outreach office and food pantry. Rather than waiting to give the books out at Christmas time with our Christmas boxes we will be giving the books to those we serve when they come to our food pantry during the year.
Third Sunday Food Collection: We want to thank all of you who contributed non-perishable food items like peanut butter, jelly, cereal, pasta sauce, tuna fish, spaghetti, beans and rice canned fruit and vegetables last weekend to stock the food pantry. If you wish to donate any of these items during the month, they can be delivered to the Outreach Office between 10 am and 11:45 am Monday thru Friday.
Vocation Discernment Night
The fourth part of the Vocation Dis-cernment Night series will be about "The Need For The Most Holy Eucharist To Live Our Vocation". It will given by Sr. Mary of Divine Innocence, I.V.E. on June 10th, Friday at 8:00pm at PAC A. The talk will be preceded at 7:30pm by social, snack and prayer.
As we enter into the summer months many things happen in our lives. It is a time for vacations, transitions and celebrations. It is a time for our young people to rest from their schoolwork and a time for families to spend more time together.
It is also a time of great stress for families young and old. There is the juggling of camps, baby-sitters and other things that are new to our schedules. There is the planning of what to do and how do we do it as we seem to be pulled in many different directions.
Summer is also a time when we can forget about Church, Mass and our call to serve and share in God’s blessings. I would like to suggest three small things that can help us as a parish and you as families to have a more peaceful and relaxing summer.
1. Come to Mass to pray and offer to God all the stress and problems of the week. God really wants to hear from you and I promise, the hour that you spend in prayer will help you throughout the week, summer and life. Also, you could invite a friend.
2. Take time to pray daily giving thanks for the blessings you receive during the day. I like to recall them at the end of each day. I sleep better when I do this.
3. Read a good book. Read a good spiritual book. I suggest rereading Matthew Kelly’s Rediscover Jesus. Don’t rush through it, take your time to reflect and relax in the joy of the Gospel.
God Bless, Fr. Mark
GET ON THE BUS
I want to thank the Pastor and parishioners for allowing me to speak about Get On the Bus on the weekend of 5/21-22. The Congregation was very attentive as I spoke at the four Masses. After each Mass people thanked me for doing this ministry and were happy to donate to this worthwhile cause. I want to let you know that the parishioners donated $624. Many people took the donation envelopes home and will send in their money. So, this will add to the weekend donations. Sister Elaine Coutu, CSJ

GET ON THE BUS
Gracias. La Hermana Elaine Coutu, CSJ

BEYOND OUR PARISH
“Elevate” Conference: A Day of Encouragement & Inspiration from Immaculate Heart Radio
http://ihradio.com/elevate/
When: June 25, 2016 - 9am to 6pm Where:
The Santa Clara Marriott 2700 Mission College Blvd,
Santa Clara, CA 95054
This special day is packed with encouraging and inspirational talks.
GOD IS CALLING YOU! A vocation – marriage, priesthood, religious life, etc. - is a call to love and every baptized person has one! But perhaps you’re feeling a tug to give your heart to Jesus exclusively, sitting at His feet like Mary Mag-dalene, or perhaps you’ve wondered what life is like as a cloistered nun? If you’re a single, Catholic woman between the ages of 18-40 years, we invite you to spend a day of discernment on July 16th with the Domini-can Contemplative Nuns of Corpus Christi Monastery in Menlo Park, CA. Catch a glimpse of the same hidden life of love that has been lived at the heart of the Church and the Dominican Order since St. Dominic founded the first community of Dominican nuns in 1206. For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Sister Joseph Marie, O.P., at vocations@nunsmenlo.org, or visit our website at www.nunsmenlo.org/vocation-discernment-event. Space is limited and fills fast!
