"I was in EM3 in primary school and was quite the introvert. I often felt out of place in school which probably affected my studies. But thankfully, I had a very supportive form teacher who treated her students like her kids.

“There are a lot of things that are way more important in life, like your character, EQ and having the right attitude.I mentor students and interns in the course of my job, and I always inculcate in them the importance of learning from mistakes, and the need to understand your own strengths and weaknesses. Your strengths guide you in finding your niche in life.”

(a)Through structures

(i) Class allocation

class environment that is conducive for overall development and

emotional well-being of students

beyond grades, include other factors such student profile, student

dynamics, gender etc

Progression from P5 to P6

- generally en-bloc

- movements of students (due to changes in subject combinations, review at the

end of P5

(ii) Support structures – maximise the potential of students

Customised & Timely Support For Primary 6

During school hours – Banded Class / Pullout Class

After school hours - Remedial Classes / Outreach Classes

Holiday Classes (revision classes for P6 during the holidays)

Enhanced Outreach Programme - to provide conducive environment for

students to study ; to motivate students to take ownership of their learning by

studying together with their peers; additional platforms for students to be

coached; at least 1 teacher on duty

Mentoring for students who need more support from teachers

(b) Through differentiated approaches

– to develop competencies eg self-directed learning and passion in

learning

(i) Students who need more support

• more teacher-directed – remedial lessons to complement class lessons

to ensure students have a strong foundation in the fundamentals in the

subjects

Page 30: WE LOOK AHEAD...Attributes What it takes Practical Tips Intrinsic Motivation Make learning meaningful Experience little success – ’Success begets success’ Equip them to experience

(b) Through differentiated approaches

(ii) Students who have stronger foundation in fundamentals and are

more independent

• Adopt a more student-directed approach with teachers’ support eg

through provision of more resources and consultation for students,

provide students with space to achieve own targets according to

their pace

• Enable students to be equipped with study skills and enhance

motivation for learning

Each P6 student’s achievement in PSLE is represented by his / her Aggregate

Score.

The Aggregate Score is the sum of all the T-scores for the 4 subjects. The 4 main

subjects which include English, Maths, Science and Mother Tongue will

contribute equally towards a student’s PSLE aggregate score. In other words,

each of the 4 main subjects carries equal weighting.

The Aggregate Score will then be used to place him or her in the appropriate

stream and secondary school.

The changes to PSLE scoring system announced 2 years ago does not apply to

this cohort.

Page 49: WE LOOK AHEAD...Attributes What it takes Practical Tips Intrinsic Motivation Make learning meaningful Experience little success – ’Success begets success’ Equip them to experience

Higher Chinese

Up to 3 bonus points will be awarded to students who take Higher Chinese

and are applying for admission into a SAP school during Sec 1 application

phase

Distinction – 3 bonus points

Merit – 2 bonus points

Foundation Subjects

Will have different weighting on T-scores than standard subjects because of

the different demands

DSA-Sec is an admission exercise to allow participating

schools to select some P6 students for admission to

Secondary 1 based on their achievements and talents in

areas like sports and aesthetics before the PSLE results

are released.

Application of DSA is a personal process. It will not go

through the primary school.
