Transcript of The 7 natural wonders of the world
The seven natural wonders of the world are the highest, largest, and
most beautiful sights to occur on Earth. On the next few pages we’ll
travel around the world and see what makes these seven marvels so
wondrous.
What makes it
so special?
It’s the world’s
largest coral reef
system – it
stretches over
133,000 square
miles and is
composed of over
2,900 individual
reefs. The Great
Barrier Reef is
the world’s
biggest structure
made by living
organisms, and
can be seen from
outer space.

What makes it so special? The Grand Canyon is the largest canyon in the world –
277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep. The canyon displays over 2
billion years of the Earth’s history within its walls; it was formed by the erosion caused
by the Colorado River, starting over 17 million years ago.

volume of water with over 49 million cubic gallons – the surface covers 238 square
miles. Within the harbor there are 130 islands, and the perimeter has over 50 miles of

What makes it so special? Aurora is a natural display of light caused by the collision
of solar wind and magnetospheric charged particles in a high altitude atmosphere.
Auroras are also known as the Northern or Southern Lights, in relation to its
hemisphere. Auroras are different colors depending on the altitude – at the high end of
the spectrum is red and at the low is blue and purple – green is most commonly seen.
Seen best near the
Arctic and Antarctic regions
What makes it so special? It is the world’s largest waterfall – over 5,500 feet wide
and 350 feet tall, it represents the largest sheet of falling water. The Zambezi River’s
mean annual flow rate over the falls is 38,430 cubic feet per second – that is a lot of
water!
