UPDATED PIPELINE PROVTR SOFTWARE DRIVERS:

The following updated version of the Pipeline ProVTR software drivers have been enhanced for Adobe Premiere 6.5 compatibility. It is highly recommended to read through the ProVTR user guide and release notes prior to use.

TARGA 3000 v1.5.1 INSTALLATION TIPS: Windows XP: At the time of this release, the TARGA 3000 v1.5.1 drivers were not digitally signed for the Windows XP operating system. Although thoroughly tested by Pinnacle Systems, these drivers are not officially certified with this operating system. In the event that v1.5.1 is used on the XP operating system, a manual driver registration will be required for this operating system to detect the TARGA 3000 hardware. Page 3: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

For example, Upon completion of the TARGA 3000 v1.5.1 drivers, you are required to reboot. Once your system has rebooted, please be aware of this scenario in the event that you are using the Windows XP Operating system:

a.) Upon rebooting, Windows XP Hardware Wizard will detect a new Multimedia Controller.

b.) Windows Hardware Wizard will first detect the TARGA Audio DSP codec on the board (see example below)

c.) Click the next button to install/update the drivers automatically. d.) Click the finish button (next dialog) once Windows XP completes this process. e.) Repeat this process for the TARGA HUB3 codec, as well as the TARGA DVX Codec. f.) To confirm that the drivers have been updated and installed correctly, Windows XP

will flash a “Hardware has been installed correctly and is ready to use” balloon on the right side of the task bar. You are now ready to use these drivers in Windows XP.

Windows 2000 Users:

QuickTime Settings Option THIS ADVISORY APPLIES TO ALL CERTIFIED WORKSTATIONS WORKING UNDER WINDOWS 2000 Summary: By default, Windows 2000 automatically sets the QuickTime video settings to Direct Draw mode. The majority of certified video cards support Direct Draw mode, and this is why this setting is selected by default. By contrast, the TARGA 3000 video overlay drivers (which enable video preview for playback and capture) has a known conflict with QuickTime settings set to Direct Draw mode. We recommend that prior to launching Premiere, Speed Razor or edit, please check these settings first. Symptoms that QuickTime is set improperly:

• Capture hangs consistently • Overall instability in Premiere

How to access the QuickTime settings:

1. Exit all open applications 2. Open up the control panels (Start->settings->control panels) 3. Open up the QuickTime settings 4. Navigate to the About QuickTime sub-menu 5. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and select Video Settings 6. If the radio button is enabled for Other Settings (Direct Draw), please click on the

Safe Mode (GDI Only) 7. Click ok and reboot your system 8. Relaunch Premiere, Speed Razor or edit and continue

Before You Install: Pinnacle Systems recommends that any previous versions of TARGA 3000 be uninstalled prior to installing version 1.5.1. This can be accomplished two ways. Either un-install using the uninstaller within the Windows control panels, or by running the version 1.5.1 installer. If you select method #2, the installer will prompt you to uninstall any previous version of T3K before it continues with the installation process. There are a few things you should know before doing this: a.) For Windows 2000 systems, it is highly recommended to upgrade your system to Service Pack 2 and Direct X 8.0a. Service Pack 2 will allow for better compatibility on some systems. DirectX8.0a with the DV patch will improve Premiere 6.0 and DV playback performance. b.) Be sure to use the same Windows NT / 2000 login for installing and running T3K. Using a different login may cause incorrect operation. c.) Pinnacle Systems recommends workstations to have at least 512 MB of RAM. This will enhance overall editing performance, especially with large projects. d.) Although both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 are supported, Pinnacle Systems recommends Windows 2000 for optimal performance.

Page 6: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

e.) If you have both Adobe Premiere 5.1C and Adobe Premiere 6 installed on your system, it is highly recommended that you do not install previous versions of TARGA drivers on top of this release. Doing so may cause a problem with drivers not being installed to the correct directories. f.) Instructions for installing the TARGA 3000 Updated Effects and Graphics: At the root of the TARGA 3000 1.5.1 installation CD, there is a folder named "T3K Updated Effects and Graphics" The T3K Updated Effects and Graphics will add Picture in Picture (PIP) Style filters, masks and textures to the TARGA Effects factory. These filters use various effect tree constructs, ranging from very simple to quite complex. Most of these filters are static, and are designed to be used as a starting point for your own customized PIP effects. All static PIP filters and transitions will also have their picons updated to a Peach color. This will make it easier to identify static PIP effects when using the picker. A Luma key filter has also been added. Please read the filter description before using this filter. Steps to follow 1) Double click on T3K Updated Effects and Graphics.exe which is inside the T3K Updated Effects and Graphics folder of the TARGA 3000 v1.5 installation CD. 2) Allow the files to extract to C:\temp\T3K temp delete when finished\. If you do not have 130 MB of free space, choose another location for the file extraction. 3) After the files are extracted, copy the 3 folders (Filters, Transitions and Graphics) to your installed path for TARGA 3000. Example: C:\Program Files\Pinnacle Systems\TARGA 3000\ 4) When asked to overwrite files, choose "yes to all". 5) After the files are copied, the "T3K temp delete when finished" folder may be deleted from the temp folder. KEY KNOWN ISSUES:

• A valid input signal is required on the Pro Digital BOB at all times. Providing the Pro Digital BOB with a signal other than a SDI signal may result in Premiere instability.

• Do not power on or off a DV device connected to the firewire port during the launch of Premiere or while playing back a project, this may lead to instability.

• For Premiere 6.x, it is required that your QuickTime settings be set to Safe Mode (GDI) in order for capture to work correctly. In order to make this change, please go to ControlPanels/Quicktime, and make sure that the radio button for Safe Mode/GDI is selected. Neglecting to do this will result in severe hangs and error messages.

• Clips that contain audio and are greater than 2 GB will crash Adobe After Effects 5 upon import. The workaround for this problem is to export files from Premiere without audio. Audio cannot be enabled during export from AE5 or the following will happen:

a.) RGBA codec = green video with incorrect alpha b.) DV25 codec = hang Premiere c.) YUV codec = inverted chroma.

Page 7: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

Workaround: Use After Effects v4.1.1 OTHER KNOWN ISSUES: Animation Recorder: - The TARGA 3000 hardware will initialize when using the following applications. Only one of these applications can be utilized at any given time. Please shut down any one of these applications before launching another.

-Pinnacle Commotion v4.x -Adobe Premiere 6.x -discreet 3ds max 4 -discreet combustion v1.011 -Adobe After Effects v5.0

- If more than one of the applications is launched simultaneously, the following error message will occur: "Failed to initialize the hardware. Hardware may be in use by other applications”. At this point, please shut down all T3K applications, and then launch and use only one supported hardware application at one time. - Animation Recorder files are not deleted after an uninstall using the TARGA 3000 binary updater. The workaround is to manually delete any remaining Animation Recorder files after uninstalling. - Using a different login on workstations may cause problems with the Animation Recorder Plugin. It is highly recommended to use the same user login as the one that was used for installation. Otherwise, several error messages will occur during use. - In discreet 3ds max 4, you will receive an “Error creating file output” if a render is attempted without Animation Recorder support. This will only occur under the following circumstances: 1.) Launch Premiere 2) Launch 3ds max 4. At this point, there is a dialog warning with a choice to close another application (Premiere) and retry, or cancel to use the application without Animation Recorder. 3) Choose cancel to use discreet 3ds max 4 without Animation Recorder 4) Open a scene in discreet 3ds max 4and render to one of the TARGA 3000 formats. This will result in the error message stated above. This problem will not occur with Animation Recorder support, though. - To use 3DSMAX4 or 3DSMAX3 without Animation Recorder support, navigate to MAX’s stdplugs directory; (example: “C:\Program Files\3DSMAX4\stdplugs”), and do the following: 1.) Rename the TARGA 3000 installed “avi.bmi” to “avi.bminew”. 2.) Rename the MAX installed “aviold” to “avi.bmi”. 3.) Rename the TARGA 3000 installed “pinnacle_gup4.gup” to “pinnacle_gup4gup”. This will allow you to run Premiere concurrently with 3DSMAX3 or 4. If you encounter additional problems, please contact Pinnacle Technical Support. - When changing video standards using Animation Recorder, it is recommended to follow these steps: 1. Close the Animation Recorder application being used. 2. Launch Premiere

Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 7 of 19

Page 8: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

3. Load the project preset for the opposite video standard 4. Close Premiere 5. Launch the Animation Recorder application of your choice. Audio: - Intermittent problem with loss of audio input when using tapes with different audio rates (32Khz and 48Khz). Mixing audio rates in a batch list may cause audio to become muted. - A/V sync may be off by a frame for both YUV and DV25 analog captures. This will vary with different deck configurations. Audio Mixer: - If the Audio Mixer window is open, any rubber band changes may not take effect on clips within the timeline. In order to prevent this from happening, please make sure that the Automation Write button is selected (pencil icon located above the mute button). This button needs to be selected in order to hear any changes being made to the Audio Band in the timeline. - Rendered audio files do not register in the audio mixer. This is a Premiere issue that can be referenced for more information on page 252 in the Premiere 6 manual. - Playback with the Audio Mixer window open may cause drop frames, especially with projects containing .MP3 files. If this occurs, please close the Audio Mixer window to prevent dropped frames. Capture: - Audio distortion during capture may occur on certain setup configurations. This issue appears to occur on non-TBC decks, or with intermittent long term device control shuttling. If this occurs, this issue should be immediately reported to Pinnacle SQA or Technical Support. - A green rolling sync pattern may be encountered during tape scan. The result is a 1-2 second delay of locking to a sync signal for capture. This will not affect captured clips, just the preview during capture. - MPEG2 batch capture/auto record can be intermittently 1 frame early or 1 frame late. - MPEG2 manual capture will display a 2-3 frame delay on A/V sync on the overlay while capturing. This will only occur during capture, and does not affect the captured file within the timeline. - PAL Batch captures using discontinuous timecode on the tape will more than likely put Premiere into an unstable state. For the most reliable capture, please use tapes without any timecode breaks. - PAL Capture overlay does not match what is seen on the output monitor. This results in images that look slightly elongated. Does not affect clips, though. - Capture with consumer VHS decks may exhibit instability not seen using Professional level VTRs. Reports from the field indicate intermittent loss of video signal as well as intermittent audio static during shuttling through tapes. - Dropped frames and instability will occur when using Premiere 6.0 in PAL and have an NTSC input connected to the TARGA 3000 Breakout Box. It is highly recommended to have only one video standard going to the input of the BOB at all times. - On rare occasions in capture you may encounter times where clips may capture only 2-3 frames instead of the expected length. This occurs mainly with analog capture. If this occurs, please recapture the clip.

Page 9: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

- Stop Motion Capture is not supported within TARGA 3000. Selecting this feature will result in the capture window not appearing. - The Movie Capture overlay will not update when using the shuttle slider until the shuttle slider is released. Codecs: - Pinnacle Software Codecs do not support PAL 4:1:1 format. If used, it will result in pixelated images when previewed in other players, such as Windows Media Player, After Effects, etc.. DV/1394: - Reports from the field indicate conflicts between certified IWILL motherboards and TARGA 3000 DV/1394 driver using Windows 2000 exist. Awaiting BIOS patch from IWILL to address problem. Please contact Pinnacle SQA or Pinnacle Technical Support for continued assistance. - Opening the capture window with a DV/1394 device connected can take up to approximately ten seconds. Other formats (YUV, DV25, MPEG) allow for instant access to the capture window. - May experience drop frames in DV/1394 capture when 32 kHz and 48 kHz tapes are switched while the capture window is open. To prevent this from occurring, please close the capture window when tapes (especially ones with different audio formats) are switched. - There have been reports of "dropped frames” or instability when changing formats during batch captures, especially from non-48khz to 48khz tapes while the capture window is open. - Certain DV cameras have exhibited artifacting on DV/1394 captures. Using the Sony VX-700 and VX-1000, Pinnacle SQA has reported seeing dropped frames, a/v sync drifts and artifacting using certain tapes in these cameras. Taking the same tape to another camera or deck (Sony DSR-30) may not exhibit this problem. - There may be “unable to detect audio format” errors while attempting to perform DV/1394 captures if the following scenarios are present: a.) If the DV Tape is queued to the end of the tape. (Workaround is to rewind the tape.) b.) If DV tapes contain a mixture of both 32KHz and 48 kHz audio on the tape. c.) If DV tapes contain a mixture of both NTSC and PAL DV footage. d.) If DV tapes contain Timecode breaks or areas that may affect a constant audio signal. e.) For multi-tape batch captures that mix both 32 kHz and 48 kHz audio in the list. - We do not currently support the Sony VX2000 NTSC DV or Canon Optura NTSC Camera. These two cameras did not pass TARGA 3000 qualification. - Playback instability will occur when the TARGA 3000 board contains both a PAL DV/1394 source as well as an analog NTSC source connected at the same time. - Frame jog using Pinnacle DV device control can be a bit sluggish at times. Please report any performance issues to Pinnacle Technical Support. - During DV/1394 Capture, the capture overlay and the NTSC monitor will be approximately 3- 4 seconds behind the DV device display when using Pinnacle 1394 support.

Effects Editor: - Color correcting a 32-bit clip saved in T3K v1.0 may cause an unwanted magenta hue in the FX Editor. The workaround is to bring the clip into the editor, go to the color tab on the transform node, disable and enable and then save out again. - May see erratic overlay display in the Effects Editor when overlay on play is disabled. Repositioning the editor window in certain screen resolutions may cause the overlay to display incorrect behavior. - Size values are incorrectly reported when constrained size is done with snap XY. - LUT curves do not interpolate as shown in the Effects UI. LUT curves will interpolate with a straight horizontal curve rather than the displayed “Z” shape of the control points. This means that the Effects UI is not displaying the control points for LUT curves correctly. - May see green in Effects Editor, but not in timeline if Mult/LUT is not used on second input of a 32bit source. This will only occur in the Effects Editor and not in the timeline, and only occurs if you select both Multiply by Key and LUT on the second input of a 32bit source. - With a Black & White alpha matte titles are green in semi transparent areas with LUT FX. This is how black & white 32 bit elements are handled in the Effects Editor. Two known workarounds are: a.) Change the Premiere transparency type to alpha channel rather than black alpha matte. This is not a perfect solution as the key will be slightly "off". b.) Save the stills as TGA files. These will key properly and will not be green in the semitransparent areas. This workaround will not work for rolls and crawls. - The color tab interpolation type is not displayed when first tabbed to. Instead of displaying an interpolation type, the field is blank. - There is a high amount of memory usage using the effects editor over an extended period of time. If you find that using the effects editor has become sluggish, one suggestion is to save your work, and exit Premiere. This will refresh the memory that has been stored in the hub. - On rare occasions with extremely complicated, multi-layered projects, you may see cases where the editor may disappear when a new effect is created. This intermittent issue has occurred on projects with more than 12 layers of footage. - When enabled, the show actual source proxies will be reversed with unsupported clips in the picker/editor. As a workaround, please use the A/B proxy. - TARGA 3000 Filters and Transitions found in the "soft" categories (Slides Soft, PIP Soft, Squeeze S, PIP Styles) utilize an alpha channel graphic to achieve edge softness. These effects are not designed to be used with 32 bit sources, Titles, or other Filters or Transitions, including the TARGA 3000 Chroma Keyer. Improper use of these effects may cause unwanted Green or Magenta color in the Keyed areas. Rather than stacking multiple soft effects, it is best to modify a single Filter/Transition to produce the desired effect. - Drop or non-drop frame timecode display is inconsistent in both the Effects Picker and Editor. This is only a cosmetic display issue, and will not affect the original clip. MPEG (Playback/Export/Render) - Make sure to choose “Save Elementary Streams” for MPEG IBP export if you want to read the files into Impression. Impression only reads MPEG2 ES streams, not PS streams. - VCD files rendered with PixelTools MPEG export plug-in will not play in Pinnacle Systems

Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 10 of 19

Page 11: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

Impression v2.1 unless the frame size is 352x240 and audio sampling is 44.1 kHz for NTSC, or 352x288 with audio sampling at 44.1 KHz for PAL. - MPEG I frame codec reported as "No compression" in After Effects. This will occur when an MPEG I frame clip is imported into Adobe After Effects and clicking on the clip properties in the Project Window. - The Pinnacle MPEG I frame software decoder currently shows up in the list of available codecs in Adobe After Effects, and it should not. It is a decode codec only. - MPEG2 program stream files over 7 minutes have playback problems in Media Player and DVD Express. Longer program stream clips may playback choppy after 7 minutes of playback in Media Player or DVD Express. - Overall, system performance decreases when the MPEG capture window is up. You may notice system sluggishness when changing settings, changing focus, etc. - When exporting an IBP Program stream from a Premiere timeline segment that does not contain audio, a Video only elementary stream (.MP2) will be generated. Playback/Scrub/Render: - Extended loop playback (includes Print to Video) may cause Premiere to hang. - Clicking stop in the program monitor after smart rendering a project may result in Premiere hanging. Workaround is to click outside of Premiere to redraw the timeline. This should allow Premiere time to recover. - RGB clips show latency when playing from clip window or source monitor. - Complex projects that are longer than one hour may display latency during normal editing steps, like applying T3K filters, inserting large clips into the timeline, etc. - Intermittent problem of a PAL DV25 export causing a hang during playback within its clip window. The hang may occur near the end of the clip, but occurs rarely. - Slow motion is a performance hungry feature, particularly in PAL. In some cases 2 transitioning slow motion clips in PAL will lead to drop frames. Also, slow motion clips that are too close together can also lead to drop frames. In such instances, a render of the problematic segment is recommended. - Transition range control does not respect razor cuts. For example, if a cross dissolve has been razored in the timeline, the remaining cross dissolve transition will not be reflected properly in the range control slider. It will continue to display 0-100% rather than an updated transition range. - May see color artifacts in the program monitor when trimming a YUV clip. This results in a sub-par preview that looks solarized. This undesirable effect does not appear on the output monitor. - There is a frame shift rendering a graphic to graphic with some transitions. This behavior will also occur on a Premiere render minus the TARGA drivers, so it appears to be a Premiere issue. - Speed change cannot be applied to clips within the clip window. Speed change is only supported on clips within the timeline. - Start/stop latency in the timeline may be 1-2 seconds. Although much improved compared to earlier releases, this still may occur when using the spacebar in the timeline to start or stop playback. - On rare occasions using scrub, the output monitor may not refresh properly. This is not the case with the program monitor. In order to refresh the output monitor, playing back from the timeline should clear this up. - Moving or resizing the clip window will cause playback to stop. Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 11 of 19

Page 12: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

- In order to escape when performing a Print to Video loop from the storyboard window, please hold down the escape key on the keyboard. This is a known timing issue, and may require the escape key to be held down for a short period of time before control goes back to the timeline. - Alt + scrubbing clips in the timeline may require to be clicked twice for any updates to be made on the NTSC monitor. - For compressed streams (DV25 and MPEG-2), the most TARGA 3000 can support for realtime playback is no more than 2 layers. Regardless if the RealTime streams settings is set to more than 2 in TARGA Settings, the timeline will still be marked red to prevent dropped frames during playback. This is not the case for uncompressed streams, such as YUV. - The first two frames of audio will play back silently during an insert edit for Export to Tape. This is by design. The video port signals the audio port after playing the first frame. It takes audio a frame to process this information, resulting in a total delay of 2 frames. This is necessary in order to have audio/video synchronization. - Commotion generated 720x480 YUV clips that are imported into Premiere will cause Premiere to hang during playback. As a workaround, please make sure to render clips as 720x486 YUV to prevent the hang. - Certain DV25 projects containing a mix of speed changes and gradient wipes may cause dropped frames if the clips and transitions are stacked too close together. If drops occur, recommend spacing the clips and their corresponding transitions to eliminate the dropped frames. - There is slight latency when playing 4 RGBA clips over a YUV clip when playback starts at the mid-segment in the timeline. As a workaround, start playback before the mid-segment of the timeline. - Overlay may go into software overlay intermittently. In software overlay mode, your overlay may appear to be blocky or playback with a slow, jerky motion. This may happen if certain palettes or windows interfere with the capture window or clip window. In order to switch back to hardware overlay, please close and reopen the capture or clip window. - Using the frame jog to scrub forward or backward in the source monitor may result in the player jumping to the beginning of the clip. - Using certain filters, DV25 clips that have been cut with the razor tool may drop intermittently during playback. If this occurs, please try deleting your preview files and re-render. TitleDeko: - Minimizing TitleDeko to the taskbar may cause Premiere to hang. Use F11 or F12 to close TitleDeko. - Background overlay will not appear for the first time a title is created. The overlay will appear the next time a title is created. - TitleDeko’s background overlay will always start at the in point of the deko clip in the timeline. This is by design. OneStep Capture Driver: - The OneStep capture driver requires a sound card driver to be installed in order to work correctly. Without an audio driver installed, the OneStep driver may not be detected correctly. - Using NTSC 480 Mode will exhibit a brief green rolling sync pattern in both Real Producer Plus and Windows Media Encoder. This will not occur using NTSC 486 mode. - Loading the OneStep driver will result in making the T3K audio wav driver the default playback and record device. Depending on which playback device is wanted, a change in the Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 12 of 19

Page 13: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

multimedia sound control panels may be necessary if the sound card driver is needed for a primary playback device. - In cases where configuring the TARGA OneStep driver results in the Video Source input only reading SDI, then it is necessary to manually restart the NexusKernelDriver. This is because the OneStep driver will only recognize the Pinnacle Analog BOB during each windows session. So if you reboot, or possibly crash, the video source will default back to the SDI BOB. In order to manually restart the NexusKernelDriver, go into control panels/devices, and manually restart the NexusKernelDriver. If this is still an issue, then please try uninstalling and reinstalling the OneStep Capture Driver. - While Windows Media Encoder v7.1* is supported in the current build, there are still numerous intermittent problems. It is highly recommended that you use Real Producer Plus v8.5 and not Windows Media Encoder due to the issues we have come across. * Below are the list of known issues using Windows Media Encoder: a.) Windows Media Encoder and installation problems. Reports of being unable to install on at least two machines. No known workarounds. b.) Windows Media Encoder unable to configure the TARGA 3000 OneStep driver. When attempting to configure, an audio configuration dialog appeared instead. This prevented at least two users from being able to configure the video driver. c.) The Audio Mixer Properties do not function at all. d.) One reported problem of encoded files causing a hang while being played in Media Player. If using Windows Media Encoder v7.1 (Build 7.01.00.3055), it is recommended to select the default device for video when configuring your settings. Miscellaneous: - There appears to be an issue on first-launch captures. The genlock source is not being set correctly. This may lead to dropped frames on captures. To avoid this, please go into TARGA settings and make sure a reference has been set prior to capture. This will only occur immediately after your first launch upon a new install. - Switching video standards (NTSC to PAL) will lead to instability in loading projects, capturing, and playback. - May experience an intermittent Nexus.dll error or Font Capture Error message upon exiting Premiere. If this occurs, please contact Pinnacle SQA or Technical Support. - Reports of intermittent loss of signal output going to the external monitor. If this occurs, a cold boot (power off, power on) should clear this up. - Projects with skipped or offline files that have been opened via the .ppj file will not display the TARGA 3000 Performance monitor. The workaround is to launch Premiere first, then open the project by file->open. - When using the Premiere Title Tool, the alpha channel will be incorrectly applied when using titles with colored backgrounds. As a workaround, please use TitleDeko Pro. - The TARGA 3000 filter is not supported for bars and tone clips provided by Premiere. If this necessary, a workaround includes importing one of the test bars and tone files from the TARGA 3000 directory. - Switching the Project Timebase from 29.97 to 30 fps for any render, playback, or print to tape session is not recommended. Pinnacle Systems recommends that once a project preset is Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 13 of 19

Page 14: Targa 3Kv1.5.1 ReleaseNotes

selected for editing work, please remain within that project preset. Switching the timebase (from 29.97 fps to 30 fps, for example) may lead to instability. - Loading projects may display an “updating playlist” message for 5 seconds before a project fully loads. This is normal behavior. - Within TARGA Settings, the Video input tab is the default Breakout Box tab. This default selection may cause a loss of genlock using TARGA settings unless you manually change the tab focus to the video output tab instead. - On Windows 2000 systems only, you cannot open Projects via the .ppj file within the Project- Archive folder. If the .ppj is selected, a new project file will be opened instead of the selected .ppj file. - In certain projects containing 8 layers or more, some video layers that contain Hollywood FX transitions may cause certain layers to not display properly. Usually this affects the bottom three layers. If this occurs, please contact Pinnacle Systems Technical support. Tips: - It is not necessary to have PCILOCK enabled on Windows 2000 machines. It is needed for Windows NT4 but setting PCILOCK on Windows 2000 machines will cause driver conflict issues. - If you are working with either large projects or projects containing several graphics and filters, Pinnacle recommends that you should increase your virtual memory allocation. In general we recommend 512 MB of RAM as opposed to 256 MB for large projects. For assistance with increasing virtual memory, please contact Pinnacle Technical Support. - If there are noticeable playback stutters with rendered T3K PIPs and filters, try deleting the preview files and re-rendering the project and play it back again. There are times where older projects have preview files that either do not update, or need to be re-rendered again for optimal playback. - Shutting down Premiere is highly recommended if there are any screen resolution changes required. Changing screen resolution settings with Premiere open will cause severe system instability. - Recommend restarting Premiere after any codec changes. If you have been working in MPEG-2 for example, and decide to open a YUV project, it is recommended to shut down your system and restart Premiere to avoid any instability. - If you are selecting characters in TitleDeko, and pressing the cursor outside of your selection area does not unselect them, the following workaround of pressing the <Esc> key should make the selections go away. If this still does not address the issue, please exit out via the F11 key and start again. - Using the monitor output on the Sony DSR-40P for capture is not recommended. It does not provide TARGA with a solid sync signal and could lead to a crash while capturing. - When exporting a frame of a graphic with a PIP filter, you need to manually enable the alpha channel in order for this to work correctly; otherwise, you will get a black background. This is because Premiere does not allow filters to modify the transparency of a layer. - Animation Recorder: When it seems that 3ds Max output is unshaped, try rendering out YUV data to overcome the problem for viewing 24 bit mode correctly. - Animation Recorder: For rendering, only D1 NTSC and D1 PAL frame sizes are supported. - If you are planning on using Real Producer, please make sure that Real Producer Plus is being used, and not the Real Producer Basic application. If the basic application is used, the default Microsoft driver may be grayed out. - Although the following configuration is supported, we do not recommend using Pinnacle DV Pinnacle Systems 09/05/02 TARGA 3000 Release Notes Page 14 of 19

Device Control and S-Video out while using a DV Camera. Pinnacle SQA has experienced instability in MPEG capture with this setup configuration. - LANC is not a frame accurate transport protocol. When using a LANC/Addenda RS422 adapter, in and out points are not frame accurate when using the Addenda RS/4L protocol. - When using ProVTR for Print to Tape, the recommended Play Timing and Edit Timing settings for frame accurate sync records and insert edits are: NTSC non-drop and drop frame settings: Edit Timing = 3 frames Play Timing =10 frames PAL drop frame settings: Edit Timing = 3 frames Play Timing =9 frames - Recommend that installed paths to saved effects files are not renamed. If you rename your default path, (i.e., c\program files\pinnacle systems\targa 3000\graphics\NTSC) to another name, opening up any graphics that cannot be found will cause an abnormal exit. You may add folders below the NTSC and PAL folders, but do not rename anything in the path above NTSC and PAL. - To apply a garbage matte to a 24-bit graphic, please enable the alpha channel transparency. - Before applying a garbage matte to non-32-bit video clips, please follow these steps: 1.) Click on create new effect button. 2.) Click ok in TARGA Effects Factory. - The following behavior while using DV/1394 may cause instability to your workstation. We do not recommend: -reopening and closing the capture window multiple times -switching tapes with the capture window open (may lead to cannot detect audio format messages) -powering the camera on and off while launching Premiere - -attempting to capture DV/1394 with no tape in camera. - We recommend using the same camera that was used for shooting the footage to be used for capturing with DV/1394. This will eliminate any incompatibility issues with tapes and different DV devices. - By default, if you have timecode breaks on your tape, Premiere will continue capturing footage rather than stop during any discontinuous timecode. - If for some reason the incorrect video input is being displayed during capture, a reminder to use the reset button in TARGA settings. - The following versions of Real Producer Plus, Real Player 8, Windows Media Encoder, and Windows Media Player that we support are:

• Real Producer Plus: v8.5.0.200 • Real Player 8: v6.0.9.450 • Windows Media Encoder: v7.01.00.3055 • Windows Media Player: v6.4.07.112

- For Hollywood FX usage (rendering, playback, general usage), it is highly recommended to use Nvidia chip based chip cards. Certain display cards, like the Matrox G400, may be unstable when using HFX for production work. - The Nexus kernel driver must be stopped and started before switching from an analog source to an SDI source with the One Step Capture Driver. For assistance on this, please contact Pinnacle Technical Support. - For issues with drop frames during Export to Tape, try scrubbing prior to the export. Adobe Premiere 6.5 Q&A Q: When will TARGA 3000 work with Premiere 6.5?

A: According to Adobe, all Premiere 6.0 certified products are 100% compatible with

Premiere 6.5 and do not require recertification. Pinnacle has performed internal certification testing with TARGA 3000 against pre-release builds of Premiere 6.5. In addition to these tests, several Premiere 6.5 beta & TARGA 3000 users have provided Pinnacle with their test feedback. Full support for Premiere 6.5 should coincide with the Premiere 6.5 release in early September 2002.

Q: If I purchase TARGA 3000 today, will I get Premiere 6.5?

A: Until Premiere 6.5 is shipping; customers who buy TARGA 3000 will receive Premiere 6.0

for the time being. The transition period before Premiere 6.5 is included in the TARGA 3000 box will take approximately 30-60 days from the time of this announcement.

Q: What if I purchased TARGA 3000 after Premiere 6.5 was announced? Can I upgrade to Premiere 6.5?

A: Pinnacle is not allowed by Adobe to offer you an upgrade to Premiere 6.5. You must

order your upgrade directly from Adobe. Q: When will TARGA 3000 come bundled with Premiere 6.5? A: Pinnacle is working to make Premiere 6.5 available to customers on the earliest possible

date. Adobe has announced that Premiere 6.5 will ship sometime in the 3rd quarter. Q: What are the benefits for a TARGA 3000 user in Premiere 6.5? A: The key features of Premiere 6.5 – Real-time Preview, Broadcast-Quality Titling and DVD

Export, while impressive, are already available in TARGA 3000. These features are merely enhancements made from Premiere 6.0 to improve the overall feature set with Premiere 6.5.

Real-time Preview in Premiere 6.5 is done in software and only available on the VGA

monitor, Premiere 6.5 will reduce the quality of the preview if the CPU cannot keep up. With TARGA 3000, real-time preview is done in full quality, full frame rate and visible on both the VGA monitor, and an NTSC/PAL monitor.

Adobe Title Designer is vast improvements on the Premiere 6 titler TARGA 3000 users

already have TitleDeko-RT or TitleDeko Pro which uses Pinnacle’s proven broadcast technology. TitleDeko RT/Pro allows users to preview their titles output on an NTSC/PAL monitor while they design them.

Premiere 6.5 includes a software MPEG-2 encoder and Sonic DVDit LE. TARGA 3000

already has both software (PixelTools) and hardware (TARGA MPEG Works) accelerated MPEG-2 encoder for high-quality export, and comes bundled with Impression DVD-SE, a more full featured DVD authoring software.

In summary, this release offers additional options, bug fixes, and improvements for the

TARGA 3000 user, and is worth upgrading to. Q: Will all of the bundled software from my Premiere 6.0-based TARGA 3000 system

work with Premiere 6.5? A: Yes. This list includes support for Animation Recorder, One-Step Capture, Hollywood FX

Silver, TitleDeko RT/Pro, TMW, PixelTools, and interaction with Commotion and Impression DVD SE. ProVTR will be the only plug-in that will need to be updated in this case. That updated plug-in will be included in the next installer for TARGA 3000.
