The Hamilton School Boardapproved a contract Jan. 5with an adviser to serve as a"coach" to assist in the searchfor a new superintendent.

The board approved anagreement with JamesRickabaugh Clarity Consultingfor $9,000. According to infor-mation from the district,Rickabaugh will serve as a

"coach for the board of educa-tion during each phase of thesuperintendent search processincluding planning the search, developing candidate profile, posting the position, establish-ing the process for acceptingand reviewing applications, planning interviews, conduct-ing interviews, analyzing candi-dates, identifying finalists andfinal search activities."

Current SuperintendentKathleen Cooke announced inthe fall that she will be retiringat the end of the school year.

During board discussion,Cooke said Rickabaugh was rec-ommended by the administra-tive team because he has expe-rience as a superintendentsearch consultant and knowsthe district well, since he hasbeen involved with the districtstrategic planning activities.

"The hope was it would bemore personal than havingsomeone come in who doesn'tknow us and doesn't know the

district as well," Cooke said.Cooke said the district will

work with Rickabaugh on thedraft search calendar to moveforward. She noted the positionhas already been posted.

Board member BrianSchneider asked what the boardwill be doing and what will bedone independent of the boardby Rickabaugh.

Board member GeraldSchmitz said Rickabaugh "willhelp us walk through theprocess gradually, make sure wedon't miss anything. He is very

knowledgeable of a lot of peo-ple in the greater midwest areathat can also bring in more peo-ple in that might be interestedin the position."

Schmitz said "there will be alot of paperwork" involved andRickabaugh will help the boardcut through it while keepingthe board on task.

Cooke added that the boardwill identify characteristicsdesired for a new superintend-

ent, will create the profile andquestions, conduct the inter-views, evaluate the candidatesand make the decisions. It willbe Rickabaugh's role "to helpfacilitate those things, but youare (making) the decision."

After the contract wasapproved, the board andRickabaugh discussed thesupertintendent search logis-tics.

"Thank you for allowing meto part of what's really animportant task, maybe themost important task you as a

board end up doing as a singletask," Rickabaugh said.

He said his role is to coachand support the board inprocess so it can proceed assmoothly as possible, so thatthe board is in a position toselect the best candidates andmake the best decision. He said

tay on schedule when mailingwedding invitationsS

Invitations are a vital componentof wedding planning. In addition toinforming guests about the details ofthe ceremony and reception, weddinginvitations convey the tone and styleof the day.

While there are no rules governingwedding invitations, there are someways for couples to ensure they stayon schedule when mailing invitations.

Order invitations early. Couplescan start to consider their invitationoptions once the wedding date andvenue have been chosen. The weddingstationery industry has changed a lotover the years. Couples can now orderinvitations from local retailers, useonline printers, or design and printtheir own invitations from home.Invitations should be worded careful-ly and proofed several times beforeprinting, so expect the process totake a couple of weeks from start tofinish. Plan for this time so you willhave the invitations ready for mailing

roughly three months before yourwedding day. Always remember toorder extra invitations so you havespares in case you make a mistake ormake last-minute additions to yourguest list.

Get organized before mailing.Start preparing invitations about amonth before you plan to ship them,as this gives you ample time to write

envelopes so you do not have tothem all on the same day. Keeguest list handy and double-checspelling of names and the addrTraditional etiquette sugaddresses should be handwritten

computer-produced calligraphenvelopes is now just as accepAvoid printed labels. Be sure tothe complete invitation weighthe post office so you will exactly how much postage is reqPurchase stamps for both the ition and the response cards.

Coordinate mailing timeRSVP deadlines. Mail invitaroughly eight weeks before theding. This gives guests time to room in their schedules and arfor travel, if necessary. Setresponse date for three weeks bthe wedding date so guests willthe time to make a decision andback the response. Many carequire a final head count one

before the wedding, so makeyour RSVP date is at least two wbefore the big day so you can acfor late responders.

Don't let responses linger. off who is coming and who cmake it as you receive each respThis way you'll know just how responses are still outstandingyou can follow up if necessary.

    Warhawks top Cedarburg

    BY THOMAS J. MCKILLENMANAGING EDITOR

Germantown couldn't escape with a last sec-ond win against a North Shore Conference oppo-nent.

The Warhawks 77-conference game winningstreak was snapped by Cedarburg Jan. 8, as JohnDiener converted two free throws with 1.2 secondsleft to give the Bulldogs 63-62 win. The lossdropped Germantown's record to 4-1 in conference

and 7-3 overall -- with those three losses comingin the last three games.

"We did have a lot of chances, a lot of themcame on the offensive end. What we needed to dowas get more stops than we did on the defensiveend," Germantown Coach Mark Adams said after-ward.

It marked the first time Germantown had lostthree games in a season since the 2009-10 season.

The game was close for the entire first half, asthe teams stayed within three points of eachother. Consecutive three point baskets by MaxKeefe gave Germantown a 32-25 lead with 49 sec-onds remaining but Cedarburg scored the nextfour points before halftime.

The teams continued to stay close for theentire second half. A three-point basket by Dienergave the Bulldogs a 59-56 lead with 41 seconds

remaining. But Germantown's Juwan McCloudanswered with a three-point basket at the otherend of court a few seconds later. Two free throwsby Diener gave Germatnown a 61-59 lead with23.4 seconds remaining, but McCloud answeredwith a three-point basket that gave Germantowna 62-61 lead with 10 seconds left, setting thestage for the final seconds of the game.

Adams said being involved in the game was a"gut check."

"It ends up not turning out the way you want-ed and you get in the locker room and you tellthem not only was the end of that game a gut

check but how you respond is going to be thesame way. That's pretty much our message justnow," Adams said.

West Allis Central halts Falls comeback

The Menomonee Falls boys basketball teamcaught up with West Allis Central Jan. 12 butcouldn't take the lead, as the Bulldogs convertedseveral free throws down the stretch to win 50-43.

Central held a 21-17 halftime lead.

Menomonee Falls rallied and tied the score on abasket by Nick Gile at the 10:27 mark of the sec-ond half. Central answered by scoring the nexttwo baskets but Menomonee Falls closed the gap,as a laypup by Jalen Dixon tied the score at 32-32at the 8:11 mark. Jared Welsch gave Central leadwith a basket at the other end of the court butJaden Champion converted two free throws forMenomonee Falls at the 7:55 mark to tie the scoreat 34-34.

A three point basket by Central's DeveronHierrezuelo put the Bulldogs back in the lead.Following a basket by Jerin Frey of MenomoneeFalls at the 5:18 mark, West Allis Central scoredsix consecutive points. The Bulldogs then convert-ed four free throws in the last two minutes tosecure the victory.

Frey led all scorers with 15 points. Afterward,Menomonee Falls was tied for fifth in the GreaterMetro Conference with a 2-3 conference recordwhile having an 8-4 overall mark.

Menomonee Falls beat West Allis Central Jan.8. 60-41. Justin Gruber and Matt Henningsen ledMenomonee Falls with 17 points each.
