Mustangs across America: The Takeoff by Tommy Anderson

This past April the largest single automotive event took place inthe United States. It was a celebration of the 50th Anniversary ofthe Ford Mustang, which first debuted at the New York World’sFair in 1964. The organization Mustangs across America

orchestrated the 50th Anniversary Drive from Los Angeles, California to Charlotte, North Carolina. The first stop was a westernbirthday celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the drive ending at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a 50th Birthday Celebrationhosted by the Mustang Club of America. The cruise started on April 10th, 2014 at Saleen SpeedLab in Corona, California andreached Charlotte, North Carolina on April 16th, 2014.

I was fortunate to be invited to the private 50th Birthday Bash andthe drive launch by Steve Saleen at his headquarters in Corona,California. On Wednesday, April 9th, I arrived at the SaleenSpeedLab about 3 hours before the party was to begin. It gave mea chance to view the complex and be there for the arrival of anestimated 300 Mustangs for the evening party. While waiting forthe participants to arrive I toured the production facilities. This isthe area where a stock vehicle, which is usually a Mustang, isdelivered stock from a dealer and converted into a premiumSaleen Muscle Car. I then took a walk through the front office and

looked at the history ofSteve Saleen and his racingcareer, the vehicles he hadcreated, and the Saleen/Allen race car in the lobby.

Around 4PM the flow of cars began and never ended. Mustang after Mustang arrived fromall over the world. They included classic Mustangs, Saleen, Shelby, Roush, and late modelMustangs. There were Mustangs from all parts of the United States, Canada, Australia, NewZealand, England, France, Slovakia, Czechoslovakia, and Germany, just to name a few. Theevening ended with around 300 Mustangs arriving at the complex with over 600 attendees. All were invited to a tour of the facility, a meal served by In N' Out Burgers, plus a meet andgreet with Steve Saleen and his family. The event was to end at 8PM but went later since itwas also a launching point for the cross country drive the next morning.

I was back at the facility bright andearly in the morning for thevehicle line up and the start of thedrive. It was a beautiful sunny

Southern California morning about 45 degrees with a predicted high of 95degrees. The lineup started a little after 7AM after a safety briefing wasconducted for all the drivers. It took nearly an hour to get all of thevehicles in the proper order for the launch. It took at least 45 minutes forall of the vehicles to pull out mainly because exiting the complex onto thevery busy California 91 Freeway at rush hour was a challenge. But all ofthe vehicles had safely left the area by 9AM without incident.

Women &Wheelsby Cindy Nunn

Recently we hosted a contest for photographers and artists entitled“Women & Wheels.” We wanted a broad range of imagesencompassing women of all ages, shapes and sizes, to show thatone does not have to be a 'perfect 10' to be considered beautiful orworthy of magazine exposure.

Right from the start we want people to see that REVOLUTIONS isnot just for men, but is also for women who enjoy the freedom andthrill of driving, whether it be a car, bicycle, tractor, motorcycle, truck, or some other vehicle powered by an engine or propelled bywheels. We allowed entrants to vote for their favorite choices, andwe also hand picked a few ourselves. So, please enjoy our selectionof...

Earth Mothers, Sexy Sirens, Classic Beauties,

Sporty Tomboys, Flirty Vixens, the Girl Next Door,

Strong and Confident Road Warriors,

and women who are just plain Hell on Heels!

We love each and every one of them!

This photographic capture by Sue “Suesie Q” Degregorio-Rosen, entitled “Debbie Deuce,” is an excellent representation of woman’scontribution to motorcycle culture. No longer relegated to riding pillion, a term derived from Scottish Gaelic for “little rug,” these women now take control of their own iron horses, owning the road as expertly as any man. Beautiful, strong and resilient, Debbie Deuce epitomizes the woman who knows what she wants and has the determination to get it, own it, and rule it.

Facts about Women and Motorcycles:

✗ The first motorcycle club for women was formed in 1940, called The Motor Maids.

✗ 1 out of 10 motorcycle owners in the United States is a woman.

✗ Research shows that women are safer motorcycle riders than men.

✗ Women riders are the fastest growing demographic in motorcycling.

WonderConAnaheim 2014by Tommy Anderson

Cosplayers were in full bloom on Easter weekend inAnaheim, California for the 2014 WonderCon at theAnaheim Convention Center. Participants and visitorsnumbered in the thousands this colorful weekend withmany sporting their favorite or favorite fantasy figure oraction star. Whether is being the Marvel Super Heroes,Star Wars Imperial Storm Troopers, to Indiana Jones fansthis venue had it all.

Visitors, cosplayers, comic book enthusiasts convergedon this huge convention center to meet fellow

enthusiasts, meet actors and actresses who played in the original moviesand television programs. Even though this event is only about ¼ of the sizeof the famed San Diego ComicCon it allowed for all attendees to visit booths, make up schools, prop designers, writers, producers and directors frommovie and television studios wishing to promote past, present andupcoming shows.

The cosplayers costumes went from the very basic to unbelievably elaboratein some cases with such attention to detail you would believe they were theactually costumes. Whether it was a fantasy comic book character or youfavorite movie or TV hero you were not disappointed. I am always amazedby these events and the enthusiasm that is exhibited by both participantsand attendees.

I always find it fascinating talking to the stars about the character that they hadplayed in their respective show. The lovely Claudia Wells (left) from the Back to theFuture series is a very gracious and informative interview. I’m sure most of usremember Barry Clark (below) who played Gorn in the famous and iconic battleagainst Capt. James T. Kirk on Star Trek. I’ve known Mr. Clark from other events wehave done and he is definitely a joy to talk to.

Page 33: Revolutions Sneak Peek

In addition to the many stars that I had talked to Igot to meet and talk to Steve Neilson (left) ofCheyenne, Wyoming who does fantastic sciencefiction movie props. Here he is with his Y WingFighter from Star Wars.

Then there was Myra Mains (below) from ForbiddenPanel who sported one of the best zombie make upsI’ve seen in a while from their Inland Empire ZombieBeauty Pageant. Forbidden Panel is an independentpublishing company and event coordinator, specializing in graphic novels, comic books, andmultimedia.

The gracious and beautiful Celeste Yarnall (below), an actress from manydifferent programs, and her husband Nazim, were just a joy to meet and actuallycreate a friendship with. It was amazing how much we had in common. Celestewas so kind as to autograph her book “The Complete Guide to Holistic Cat Care”for my wife and myself. Celeste also told me about her new book coming out“Paleo Dog” on nutritional dog care for your best friend. It will be out shortly onAmazon.com. I want to note that Celeste does know what she is talking about, not only being a noted actress and writer she also has a PhD in Nutrition.

I also spent some time watching members of the CINEMAMAKEUP School fromLos Angeles practice their art. Makeup artists Nate Cohn, Lee Joyner, MidgeOrdonez, Miya Aoki from the program are amazing from demonstrating theircraft.

Page 34: Revolutions Sneak Peek

In addition I was able to meet theWinner Twins who together arebestselling authors, screen playwriters, producers and directors.

So much can be said about this event and for a fan to be able to cover this event it was amazing. One highlight of the weekendevent was the group shot of the Marvel Comic book Heroes in front of the fountain at the entrance to the Anaheim ConventionCenter.

When I was leaving the event on the final day I caught a glimpse of two of the cosplayersrepresenting the feeling of many that this was a fun and exhausting weekend!
