October Newsletter
Greetings from First Lutheran Church Council. I would like to take
some time to update you on a few things. The call committee at First
Lutheran has been working hard in following the process outlined by
the ELCA and the Western Synod to fill the Administrative Pastor
position here at First Lutheran. The call committee hopes to have the
site profile completed by October 1st. A site profile of a church is read
by any Pastor who may consider a call to First Lutheran. A potential
Pastor can review the site profile and see if their skill set and our
needs would be a good combination for all parties involved. Please
keep the Call Committee in your prayers as they go through this
process reviewing potential candidates for our Administrative Pastor
position. All this is good news. It just takes time to go through this
process.
I would also like to update you on our current budget. Each week, in
the church bulletin, the amount budgeted weekly for both revenue
and expenses is stated. In comparison to August 2018, we are trailing about $10k in revenue. We have also spent about $18k less. Looking at the attendance numbers for the two months in August 2018 we had 939 in attendance, and August 2019 there were 754. The last months of the year are generally our best months for offering. Keep in mind we put together a budget that was about $140,000 above the 2018 budget. I am asking all of us to prayerfully consider First Lutheran and its mission and do what we can to support it. If the trend continues, we will have to make some hard decisions at our annual meeting in January regarding staff and other expenses the church incurs.
In the next few weeks Pastor Gene will be leading us through an
interim process where he will be visiting with many of you to find
information on our history, our leadership, our denominational
linkage and other things. By bringing these topics to the surface we
may help pave the way for a new Pastor coming on board. I am asking
each of you, if Pastor Gene reaches out to you for information, please
sit down and visit with him so he can gather this information and lead
us through this transition.
Yours in Christ

Call Committee Update:
Members of First Lutheran Church Mandan, North Dakota
Dear Members of First Lutheran Church,
The Call Committee which was appointed by your Church Council continues to move forward in our efforts to find a new administrative pastor. We have completed the Ministry Site Profile for our church, but we need your help in finalizing the Top 5 Ministry Tasks. You will be able to help by completing a survey that you can find on our First Lutheran Church Mandan website or on face book. You will also be receiving a post card by mail that you can fill out as well and mail back to the church or place in a box in the Narthex. However, I encourage you to complete the survey electronically if possible. We are hoping to quicken the process, so we are asking that you complete this survey by October 1st. There is also room for comments. If you have any questions, feel free to call the church.
Sincerely,
Darrell Nitschke
Chairman of the Call Committee _________________________________________________________________

6th Annual Trunk or Treat is returning to First Lutheran!
First Lutheran Church is hosting a fun and safe place in Mandan for our area
youth to trick or treat. Trunk or Treat will take place on Halloween night,
October 31st from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the church parking lot. Please prayerfully
consider all the ways you can help make our sixth annual Trunk or Treat Night a
huge success!
We need trunk sponsors. Please consider sponsoring a “trunk”. You will
decorate a car trunk with your business name or just a fun Halloween
theme, along with staffing someone to hand out candy, provided by you, to
the trick or treaters. If it’s not possible for you to participate in the event,
you can also send a monetary donation to use towards prizes and candy for
the children attending Trunk or Treat.
We need volunteers! This is a great evangelism outreach project for our
church and its success is dependent of volunteers. Would you like to hand
out candy? Would you like to be behind the scenes, hanging flyers up
around town? Do you want to work in the kitchen providing hot dogs to the
children? We will need a lot of helping hands!
We need monetary donations to help defray the expense of food, candy and
prizes. If you’re not able to volunteer and would like to donate funds
instead, thank you!
We need you to spread the WORD! Bring your kids to a safe place on
Halloween night! Let all your friends know who have kids ages 0-12 that we
are hosting a Trunk or Treat in the church parking lot on Halloween night
from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. All are welcome!
If you would like to participate, please contact the church office at 663-3594, Ron
Webb at 426-1461 or Mike Hatzenbuhler at 391-5890 for more information.
