DIAMOND TYPE CLASSIFICATION FOR GIA COLORED DIAMOND GRADING REPORT #2125820401

Scientists classify diamonds into two main "types" - type I andtype II - based on the presence or absence of nitrogen which canreplace carbon atoms in a diamond's atomic structure . Thesetwo diamond types can be distinguished on the basis ofdifferences in their chem ical and physical properties.Type II diamonds contain little if any nitrogen and they aresubdiv ided into two groups (lia and lib) both of which are quiterare (less than 2% of al gem diamonds).According to the records of the GIA Laboratory , the 10.09 carat Cushion Modified Brilliant diamond described in GIAColored Diamond Grading Report *2125820401 has been determined to be a ype lIa pink diamond. Tpe lIa pinkdiamonds are very rare in nature , often have relatively few inclusions and are noted for their mostly homogenous color inthe rough . Un like many oher colored diamonds, the color in pink diamonds can no t only be caused by impurit ies, but itmay also be a esult of the diamond's exposure to heat and pressure during transportation into the earth's crust. Tpe Iiapnks have been found in anumber of mning regions around the world . Historically they were found in Ind ia particularlyfrom the Golconda region) and, in more recent times. most notably from BraZil and Africa.

Among famous gem diamonds, he 70.39 carat Empress Rose and the 28.15 carat Agra are examples of type lIa pinks.

Pink diamonds, drawing their color from an anomaly in the crystal lattice of thestone, have always been considered extremely rare and highly desirable to the mostdiscerning collectors. Historically found in India in the famous Golconda mines, famouspink diamonds have been long been cherished by the Mogul rulers of India. The 17thcentury gemstone trader, Jean Baptiste Tavernier, referred to pink diamonds as "rose"colored and illustrated a pair of pink diamonds which he had purchased in India around1668. Pink diamonds of natural origin and superior quality are regarded as some of the
