FINANCIAL TIDBITS/REMINDERS

Stewardship: It’s that time of year again that we are thinking about next year’s budget. A huge part of planning the budget is having an idea of what our giving will be for the year. Watch your mailboxes to-wards the end of October for your 2014 Stewardship packets to be delivered. In the meantime we ask that you prayerfully consider what your financial giving to Faith Lu-theran will be for the coming year. As always, thank you for giving your time, talent and treasure to help make Faith what it is today!

Planning Ahead to 2014: Please meet with your commit-tees and think ahead to 2014. Yes, we said 2014! Please turn in budget requests for your area of ministry. Drop the request in the treasurer’s box or join us at our October Council meeting to share your request. Also, if you are ever wanting to know information about current budgets please ask. Contact Jill at 374-2010.

Financial Tidbits/Reminders: Thank you for your faithful giving of finances, time and talent. YOU make a difference at Faith and we love to see as many people working to-gether to continue our mission of Celebrating faith in Christ by worshiping together and reaching out in love to all of God's people.

If you are interested in giving that occurs automatically for

you, pick up a Simply Giving form at church in the gather-

ing area. Ask to see more detailed financial data if you are inter-

ested. Call Jill at 507-374-2010. It’s been about a year since we shared these so just a cou-

ple reminders and a couple new tidbits:

When planning to make a purchase for a project or

event, please OK purchases above $25.00 with the committee involved with your purchase or contact a

member of church council. Ask for financial data to be sure there are funds in the budget or to verify

there are funds in a restricted (money specific to a

project) fund. When making purchases please only include items for

Faith Lutheran on the receipt (no personal items).

Tax on items is not reimbursed.

When hosting an event/project please contact the

treasurer, Jill, as soon as you can to share where your

team would like mission donations to be shared. The organizations we share our mission with look forward

to hearing from us as we spread God’s love.

FUNDRAISING

Scrip Program: We will be custom/special ordering gift cards monthly. We will continue to have Kwik Trip cards on hand but we will also be ordering cards. There are gift cards from just about anywhere. Some examples: Aeropostle, American Girl, Amazon.com, Old Navy, Target, Lands End, Target - this is just a small sample! Remember...if you purchase a $20 gift card, it is worth $20 on all purchases and we can earn a percent back to support our youth program. Thank you so much for the great support of this ongoing fundraiser!!!

OPPORTUNITIES

Altar Care: If you are interested in service on the altar care team, please contact Mary Stoddard. She is looking for volun-teers to serve a one month term. During your scheduled month you will be in charge of setting up communion for our two com-munion Sundays and preparing the baptismal font if there is a baptism scheduled. Very minimal time but a very important job! Please contact Mary at [email protected] or 633-6796.

Christmas Choir Musical: Nadine Langworthy and Levi

Livingood are going to begin leading choir again for the year.

They will be preparing the choir to do a Christmas Musical

for this year! Practices will be on Wednesdays, October 9

& 23, November 13 & 20, December 4 & 18 from 7:15-

8:15pm. Anyone, any age, any level of talent (or even no

talent) are welcomed and encouraged to join in! Speak with

Nadine or Levi if you have questions or if you’d like to be a

part of the choir and/or musical this year.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Update: The progress on the Habitat home continues. By the be-ginning of October the sheet rock will be com-plete (thank you Faith volunteers). Next comes the taping, painting, trimming and flooring. It has been a project of many

churches and businesses in Dodge Center. “Thank you” to everyone from Faith who has contributed their time as volun-teers and as food servers. There is still significant work to be done to be sure, but each week it is looking more and more like a home.

Page 3: FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH October 2013 “Partner Church ......FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH “Partner Church with Castillo Fuerte in Bogota, Colombia” 308 2nd Street NW—PO Box 358 Dodge

Sunday School: Any children preschool age through 5th grade are welcome to join us each week at 9:05 in the Sun-day School rooms.

We are looking for volunteers to help teach for any time frame throughout the year (if someone is interested in teach-ing a specific age group all year round that would be won-derful, if there are individuals interested in teaching/helping for 3 week periods of time throughout the year, or if anyone is interested in helping with songs/activities or snacks—we would love to have your help)!

If interested please contact Malinda Quam at 374-2976 or [email protected], or any other Sunday School committee members: Karen Kleinwort, Amy Gna-gey, Stacy Wolf, Beth Glarner or Missy Tjosaas.

We cannot do this without the support and help of volunteers to teach our young disciples!!!

YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRIES

Community Backpack Pro-ject: We are in the planning stages of getting a new min-istry up and running in our community. The Backpack Program.! This is a program where a backpack is packed with food for the weekend for children who may not have access to food on the week-ends. We will be working with the school, other churches in the community and civic organizations. This will be a weekly program throughout the school year. If you are interested in more information or wanting to get involved, please contact Missy at the church at 374-2174 or e-mail at [email protected].

The Perfect Gift: Step away from the distractions and has-sles of daily life and enjoy some quality time for just the two of you on a Lutheran Marriage Encounter weekend. You’ll spend two nights in a comfortable hotel and enjoy five deli-cious meals from Friday at 8PM to Sunday at 5PM. Four presenting couples, including a Lutheran clergy couple, give a series of presentations followed by questions the two of you discuss in the privacy of your hotel room. There is no counseling and no group sharing. No one tries to change who you are. It’s great for couples who already have a good marriage and want to enrich their relationship, but it also does wonders for those marriages that have lost their luster through the years. Contact Larry & Coke Guilfoile at 651-257-6960 or Pete & Phyllis McMahon at 763-561-1575 or visit www.godlovesmarriage.org. Register a month in advance: October 25-27 at the County Inn and Suites in Duluth or No-vember 22-24 at the Crown Plaza in Brooklyn Center.

Synod Delegation Trip to Colombia: July 4-14, 2014. Cost is $2,000 per person (includes flight, room & board, transportation, other ground costs – travelers will be respon-sible for any additional spending money). People of all ages are invited to join the delegation. Your congregation is not required to have a partner congregation for you to go on the trip. We ask that youth under 18 be accompanied by an adult. The group will fly in and out of Bogota, Colombia’s capital and location of the central offices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Colombia (IELCO). We anticipate that the majority of activities will take place in and around Bo-gota. These activities may include (but are not limited to): visits to partner congregations; meetings with IELCO pas-tors, staff, and bishop; and outings to historical landmarks. Further information regarding the itinerary will be available at a later date. Trip Requirements: Each traveler will need a U.S. passport valid through January 2015, NO additional visa is required; this trip will involve high altitudes. If this is a concern for you, please consult your doctor; consult with your doctor regarding any international vaccinations; we ask that any participants under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult. Registration is due by November 1, 2013. A de-posit of $150 pre registrant is also due at that time. The maximum number of people the trip will accommodate is 14; therefore, opportunity will be given on a first come, first serve basis per receipt of registration and deposit. If you are interested in going on this trip please contact Jeremy Wahl-strom or Karen Peterson.

COMMUNITY

The Search Continues: Have you been to a wedding or funeral and been impressed with the pastor and their mes-sage? WE NEED YOUR NOMINATIONS for a pastor. There are sheets in the gathering space to complete or e-mail [email protected]. The pastors that have been recommended to us have been extremely flattered that we con-tacted them expressing an interest in having them visit with the Call Committee. This is the best way we have found to identify candidates and share the great things that we’re doing at Faith Lutheran. Every nomination is followed up on. Thank you for your considera-tion and assistance to the Call Committee.

Yes, it is that time of year again that it begins to get cold and the snow begins

to fall and many of our friends get ready to “roost” somewhere warm for

part or maybe ALL of the winter months. We are going to celebrate with all

of them and have a special blessing and gift for them during worship on

Sunday, October 13 at both worship services. Plan on coming to join us

whether you are traveling or not this winter. See you all there.

There is a $20 per person registration fee this year. The goal is for every person who registers for this

event to raise $100 besides the registration fee. Those who do will get a free t-shirt as a prize!

Make your own cardboard shelter (or a group shelter for extra warmth). A heavy box makes for a

warmer shelter. You will need to clean your site and recycle your box at the end of the event.

Bring a warm sleeping bag, pillow, and packing or duct tape. Don’t use an air mattress because it holds

the cold from the ground and air around it. It is also a good idea to use a tarp over your box to keep

out wind and rain.

Recommended Clothes to be worn in layers: warm cap that covers the ears, long underwear (top and

bottom), warm long sleeve sweat shirt or sweater, warm windproof jacket (ski jacket or parka), warm

pants, snow pants or ski pants to wear over regular pants, wool or synthetic material socks, boots, loose

fitting and waterproof. Tight clothing/boots make you colder!

Registration will be at the West Park from 4 to 6 pm.

Set up of Cardboard boxes can happen earlier than 4 pm if you’d like.

Families can participate together. (students under the age of 18 must have an adult chaperone)

Everything will be held outside Coffee and Hot chocolate will be available. Please don’t bring snacks to

help us make this event more realistic.

Soup will be served from 5:00 to 10:00 pm or until the soup is gone.

Participants will be in “bed” around 11 pm. There will be adults wandering the grounds the entire night

A simple breakfast will be served from 6:30 - 7:30 am.

Boxes and sites must be cleaned up before leaving the park. You can pick up your child by 7:30 am.

This is the 3rd Annual Dodge County Cardboard Box City and Faith Lutheran is

hosting this event this year. It will be at the West Park, just across the street from

the church. Last year we raised $1500 for SEMCAC! Here are a few details about

the event. If you want more information, there are registrations and information

on our webpage and on the table by the youth bulletin board or talk to Missy.

This is a great event!

WACKY Wednesdays is Faith Lutheran’s after school program for ALL 3rd– 5th

grade students. This program will begin on

Wednesday, October 2 from 3:15 to 5:30pm.

Parent/Adult help will be greatly appreciated to help make

WACKY successful. A calendar for the year with our schedule and special events will be sent

home on the first day of WACKY, September 2. Please take a good look at the calendar and

see if there is one or more days during the year that you can help out with your student’s

program. If even one Parent. Grandparent, or Adult per student could help just once during

the year, it would positively impact this program and makes a huge difference to lives of all

these students. YOU can make a difference in a child’s life in just ONE day this year. Of course, we would take

more than one day if you can help out. Please prayerfully consider a one day commitment to this program.

We will again be having a day camp on Wednesday, October 16 from 8:00-4:00 pm (MEA). Registrations and

information will go out with the students on the first day of WACKY on Wednesday,

October 2.
