Overview

This document provides instructions for updating the BIOS and firmware for the following components that are

part of the Dell EMC Ready Solution for VMware vCloud NFV 3.0 OpenStack Edition Platform deployment:

Dell EMC PowerEdge R640

Dell EMC PowerEdge R740

Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd

To maintain the highest levels of security and peak performance, BIOS and firmware updates for the systems

as well as other attached hardware, are key for ongoing operational solutions. All hardware components and

the current version of firmware, are viewable in the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9, or iDRAC9,

application.

3 Expand and manage vSAN cluster After vSAN cluster is set up, the option to add hosts, capacity devices, remove hosts or devices, and manage

failure scenarios is available.

3.1 Add host to vSAN and NSX-T clusters Prerequisites:

Server is in same subnet

Dedicated network bandwidth on physical adapters, similar to previously attached ESXi hosts to

cluster

Compatibility of resources, including drivers, firmware, and storage I/O controllers as listed within

the Dell EMC Ready Solution for VMware vCloud NFV 3.0 OpenStack Edition Platform Manual

Deployment Hardware Guide and within the BoM, have been verified

ESXi is installed on the newly added server as detailed within the Dell EMC Ready Solution for

VMware vCloud NFV 3.0 OpenStack Edition Platform Deployment Manual Software Guide

ESXi hosts entry is available on the DNS server

3.1.1 Add host to vSAN cluster 1. Go to the location where the vSAN cluster is located.

2. Right-click the cluster listing and select Add Host.

3. Enter the host name or IP address, and click Next.

4. Enter the user name and password associated with the host, and click Next.

5. Review the summary information and click Next.

6. Assign a license key and click Next.

7. From this location, the option to enable Lockdown mode which prevents remote users from logging

directly in to the host, can be selected.

Note: You can configure the Lockdown mode option later by editing the Security Profile in within the Host

settings.

8. Review the settings and click Finish. The host is added to the cluster.

9. Add a host to the Mgmt-Network-VDS.

Note: To add a host to the Mgmt-Network-VDS, ESXi-Mgmt-VDS, and Infra-Mgmt-VDS, see the respective

sections within the Dell EMC Ready Solution for VMware vCloud NFV 3.0 OpenStack Edition Platform

Deployment Manual Software Guide.

10. Add a host to the ESXi-Mgmt-VDS.

11. Add a host to the Infra-Mgmt-VDS.

12. When complete, click Claim Disk.

13. Go to vSAN cluster and click the Configure tab under vSAN.

14. Click Disk Management and then click Claim disks.

3.1.2 Add host to NSX-T cluster A fabric node is a node that has been registered with the NSX-T management plane with NSX-T modules

installed. For a hypervisor host to be part of the NSX-T overlay, it must first be added to the NSX-T fabric.

1. In the NSX Manager CLI, verify that the install-upgrade service is running.

nsx-manager-1> get service install-upgrade

Service name: install-upgrade

Service state: running

Enabled: True

2. From a browser, log in to the NSX Manager using https://<nsx-mgr>.

3. Select Fabric, Nodes, Hosts, then click Add.

4. Enter the hostname, IP address, username, password, and the optional thumbprint.

Note: If you do not enter the host thumbprint, the NSX-T UI prompts you to use the default one retrieved from

the host.

When the host is successfully added to the NSX-T fabric, the NSX Manager displays: Deployment

Status: Installation Successful and MPA Connectivity: Up. LCP Connectivity remains unavailable

until after the fabric node is put into a transport node.

3.2 Remove host from vSAN cluster Before shutting down, rebooting, or disconnecting a host that is a member of a vSAN cluster, the host must

first be put in maintenance mode.

Prerequisites:

Verify that the environment has the capabilities required for the option you select and can be put

into maintenance mode

3.2.1 Remove host from NSX-T cluster 1. In the VM Management tool, detach all VMs on the host from any NSX-T logical switches.

2. In the NSX Manager, click Fabric, Nodes, and Transport Nodes UI to delete the host transport

node.

3. In the NSX Manager CLI, verify that the NSX-T install-upgrade service is running by entering the

following command.

nsx-manager-1> get service install-upgrade

Service name: install-upgrade

Service state: running

Enabled: True

4. For hosts that are managed by a compute manager, click Fabric, Nodes, Hosts, Transport Nodes,

then Delete host to uninstall the host from the management plane and remove the NSX-T modules.

22 Dell EMC Ready Solution for VMware vCloud NFV 3.0 OpenStack Edition Platform

5. For hosts that are in the NSX Manager, click Fabric, Nodes, Hosts, Compute Manager, and

Configure Cluster Manager.

6. Uncheck the Automatically Install NSX check box.

7. Select the desired node, then click Uninstall NSX.

Note: Verify that the Uninstall NSX Components option is selected. This causes the NSX-T modules to be

uninstalled on the host.

3.2.2 Remove host from vSAN cluster 1. Navigate to the vSAN Cluster.

2. Right-click on the name of the host to remove, then select Maintenance Mode, then Enter

Maintenance Mode.

3. Select a data evacuation mode as Full data migration and click OK.

4. Right-click on the host and select Move to other cluster (if any, other than vSAN cluster) or Remove

from inventory.
