The event will be held at the historic St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springdale, Ohio. Twelve patriots of the American Revolutionary War will be honored and remembered. Revolutionary War uniforms and Colonial attire are encouraged. Please RSVP to Compatriot Michael Gunn by April 16, 2018.

The first Tri-State Honor Flight of 2018 will be on April 17th. Please join the members of the Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard to welcome our veterans home and plan on being at the greeting area in CVG by 7:30 PM. The veterans should arrive around 8:15. Several of our compatriots will also be presenting SAR ROTC Medals at schools throughout the month of April. If you would like to help with one of these presentations please contact Compatriot Gary Duffield.

The Cincinnati Chapter’s

Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard Drum George Stewart, Chapter Historian

On January 2, 2008, Color Guard Commander Randy Krueger discussed the purchase a new drum to be used by our Color Guard. The purchase price was $750.00 plus $50 shipping. The seller was a Mr. Dean Haemel from Maryland who wanted to sell it before he moved overseas. The new drum as in mint condition and used only 12 times since it was made in 2000. A motion was made by Compatriot Gerry Hounchell and second by Compatriot John Kirts. The cost of the drum was paid for by donations. The DAR donated $100.00, Randy Krueger donated $100.00 and the remainder was from a unspecified donor represented by Compatriot Gerry Hounchell. Compatriot Jim Hough had the honor to be the first to play our new drum.

Twelve Revolutionary Patriots to be Honored by CCSAR

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) along with the City of Springdale, OH will be hosting a 18th Century Ceremony to honor 12 Patriots of the Revolutionary War.at 2:30 PM in the Old St. Mary’s Cemetery at Route 4 and Cameron Road, just one block South of Northland Blvd, on Rte. 4 in Springdale, OH.

CCSAR will bring their Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard. They will post colors and present a musket salute with the bravado of the 18th Century, clad in the uniforms of those days.

Community dignitaries and several descendants will be in attendance. These patriots who will be honored for the first time had been lost to history until the City of Springdale began their campaign to save the cemetery and the CCSAR’s Revolutionary War Sites and Patriot Graves Committee discovered the records of their burial here. These patriots will finally have their Revolutionary War service properly memorialized.

We will dedicate a granite monument with the names of the twelve, five of whom have no other identification at the St Mary's site. There will be accompaniment to the prayers by a fifer, the bagpipes, a bugler and the mourning of the musket unit. And we are pleased to have located family of some of our honorees who will have come from as far away as Oklahoma to participate.

We welcome the public to join us for this momentous occasion where we will honor these patriot ancestors who helped give us our freedom and liberties that we continue to enjoy in these United States!

These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the

sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their

country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of

man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we

have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more

glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly;

it is dearness only that gives everything its value.

Thomas Paine, The Crisis, December 23, 1776
