Helen Marshall co-founder - is an award winning visual artist based in London, United Kingdom. From educational activities to iconic footage from 1969 on the infamous Times Square screens, families had the opportunity celebrate this historic milestone. Guests were also able to walk on a giant, floor-based mosaic of the iconic Moon boot print at Marriott Marquis Times Square.

NEW YORK SCHEDULE Walk on the Moon – Guests walked on a giant, floor-based mosaic of the iconic Moon boot print created by UK Artist Helen Marshall of The People’s Picture, co-produced by Prolific Graphics. The mosaic of the iconic Moon boot print was situated the Marriott Marquis, and was populated with photos from people around the world sharing their “giant leap” moments and dreams, as well as memories from Apollo 11.

Educational Activities – The Aldrin Family Foundation displayed the signature Giant Mars Map™ program and a new Giant Moon Map™ . There were special robotic and educational activities on the maps hosted by the Aldrin Family Foundation to teach kids about the history of past lunar landings and future space exploration plans.

Historical Footage – Discovery Channel provided the video content to help guests relive key moments from the July 16, 1969, Saturn V rocket launch, as well the July 20, 1969, Moon landing and first steps. Historical footage, along with videos promoting future space missions, were broadcasted throughout the day over select digital screens in Times Square. Clear Channel Outdoor, Nasdaq and Champ Sports generously donated screen time in Times Square and Clear Channel Outdoor also donated space in select locations on billboards across the country. In London the historical moon landing footage was show simultaneously on London Piccadilly Lights. Screen generously donated by LandSec and Ocean Outdoor. Iin Singapore the moon landing content was also shown simultaneously at the Art Science Museum in Marina Bay.

Astronaut meet and greet opportunities - an augmented reality app provided by AstroReality teaches guests about the six Apollo lunar landings and much more. Shuttle Astronauts Winston Scott and Nicole Stott were also on site sharing their Moon memories and talking to the children.

The St Paul’s Way Trust Science Summer School, now in its 8th year, is hosted by Professor Brian Cox OBE. Science Summer School provides an exciting view of cutting-edge engineering and scientific research alongside exploration of scientific areas in greater depth than possible within the standard science curriculum. The interactive Lunar Window has been created exclusively for The People’s Moon, Apollo 50th Global Activations, and enables the public to appear in front of an augmented reality moonscape. Participants can take part in the Apollo legacy project by recording their video messages where they proclaim their own giant leap in life. The innovative photo and video installation has been created and produced by British/Norwegian artist Jannicke Mikkelsen, an award-winning VR film Director & new-tech artist based in London, United Kingdom.

Designed for interactivity and social media sharing, the Lunar Window uses the latest range tracking technology to create a dynamic view of the lunar landing site. Participants simply record a selfie video message, submit to The People’s Moon project and share their video message with their social media friends and followers. The Lunar Window was created with the custom technology by VeloxIT and Stargate Studios.

VeloxIT, a Norwegian software development company, has more than 20 year experience in product development for large corporations. They provide flexible and adaptive solutions in the areas of AI, ComputerVision, Advanced Analysis and Electronic Interaction. People from all over the world were able to share their photos and stories via the website and be part of a commemorative artwork.

The People’s Moon worked with young communities, including the St Paul’s Way Trust Science Summer School in East London and NYC department of Education in USA, to encourage learning about science and space travel. Community and educational activities are key to the project.

We also ran an online campaign, calling out to the public to submit their Moonlanding memories, hopes, dreams, and giant leaps for the future.




UPLOADING PHOTOS ONLINEThe People’s Moon website allowed the public, partners, and clients, to upload their photos and stories to be part of the giant lunar mosaic. Once approved, the images appeared in the online gallery on the website. There was also an optuon to share photos on social media, as well as being part of the giant photo mosaic artwork celebrating the Moon landing 50 years ago.




SHARESPACE EDUCATIONAL STEAM RESOURCESShareSpace Education’s Giant Mars Map™ and Giant Moon Map™ are exciting, core science standards-based, interactive educational tools that helps children develop an understanding for real-world, STEAM-based concepts using the Red Planet and the Moon as the basis. Targeted for ages 8-12 years, the vinyl floor maps measure 25’ x 25’ and depict a colorful topography of Mars and the Moon, as well as the landing sites of Mars rover missions and Apollo Lunar Lander Missions.

These maps are designed to be a platform to ignite the spark of creativity in kids while they sit, stand, walk, play and learn together – promoting teamwork and innovative thinking. Through fun projects like building personally designed space ships and learning the names of craters and land masses on Mars, children’s eyes are opened to the amazing opportunities that lie ahead for them in this new world of space exploration.

HERITAGE, ARCHIVES - THE MAKING OF THE APOLLO PHOTO MOSAIC

The Apollo story is rich with incredible archival images, videos, and recordings showing just how monumental the moon landing was in 1969. Over 400,000 people were involved in putting man on the Moon, and The People’s Moon wants to show that! We have accessed NASA and Apollo Photo Archives to show the photos of the people that achieved the seemingly impossible dream 50 years ago.

Using vintage images and featuring some online throughout the campaign acts as a voice telling previously untold stories: from the Loneliest Man in the Universe - as Michael Collins flew solo around the Moon “not since Adam has any human known such solitude”; to the all female team of coders whose work on Space communication was integral to the success of the Apollo mission (and also what allowed the world to hear the iconic line “One Small Step for Man”)
