Your Key to College Opportunity
More than 2 million students throughout 175 countries and territories take the SAT® every year.
Why? Because they know the SAT is one of the best ways to show colleges your knowledge, skills, and potential. The SAT lets you demonstrate what you’ve learned in school and your readiness for college-level work.

The SAT provides free college planning resources that help you choose and apply to colleges that fit you best.
The SAT connects you to scholarships and merit aid to help you pay for college.
If you opt in to the Student Search Service® when you register for the SAT, you’ll hear from colleges, universities, and scholarship programs looking for students just like you.
Times to Test
Spring ahead: We advise you to take the SAT in the spring of your junior year. That way, you can take the test again in the fall of your senior year if you want to try to improve your scores.
Test when you’re fresh: It’s a good idea to take an SAT Subject Test soon after you take the related course, when the material is fresh in your mind.
