PATANJALI MANTRA
योगेन िचत्तस्य पदेन वाचां । मलं शरीरस्य च वैद्यकेन ॥ योऽपाकरोत्तमं प्रवर ंमुनीनां । पतञ्जिलं प्राञ्जिलरानतोऽिस्म ॥
Patanjali Sloka
yogena cittasya padena vācāṃ | malaṃ śarīrasya ca vaidyakena || yo’pākarot taṃ pravaraṃ munīnāṃ | patañjaliṃ prāñjalirānato’smi ||
योगेन (Yogena) = By Yoga योग (Yoga) = Yoga िचत्तस्य (Cittasya) = [Purifies the impurities] Of Mind िचत्त (Citta) = Mind पदेन (Padena) = By Grammar पद (Pada) = Signifying Grammar
वाचां (Vaacaam) = [Purifies the expression of] Speech वाच् (Vaac) = Speech मलं (Malam) = Impurities शरीरस्य (Shariirasya) = [Purifies the impurities] Of the Body शरीर (Shariira) = Body
Patanjali compiled 196 sutras on Yoga which are popularly known as the Patanjali Yoga Sutras Comments: Patanjali is attributed for the compilation of Mahabhasya which is a commentary on selected rules of Panini's Ashtadhayi and Katyayana's Varttika.
च (Ca) = And वैद्यकेन (Vaidyakena) = Through Medical Science वैद्य (Vaidya) = Medical Science योऽपाकरोत्तम ं(Yo-Apaakara-Uttamam) = He who is an expert in removing the impurities [of Body, Mind and Speech] यः (Yah) = He who अपाकरण (Apaakaranna) = Driving away, Removal उत्तम (Uttama) = Best, Excellent
प्रवर ं(Pravaram) = Most Excellent मुनीनां (Muniinaam) = Of Munis पतञ्जिलं (Patan.jalim) = Sage Patanjali प्राञ्जिलरानतोऽिस्म (Praan.jalir-Aanato-Asmi) = I bow down with folded hands [to sage Patanjali] प्राञ्जिल (Praan.jali) = Joining hands as a mark of reverence आनत (Aanata) = Bending, Bowing अिस्म (Asmi) = I
