Task leader SKFContributors: RTC, LKAB, Boliden, SKF, LTU, EISTECStart: M1 - End: M45
Goals:• Energy management of embedded sensors• Communication from enclosed locations• Data and information security• Integration to SOA enabling service and device configuration
and system integration

Task 1.10 – Iron ore Rail line3
Pilot will be from LKAB mine in Malmberget to Lulea

Task 1.10 – Pilots4
• Three phases for 2013-2014
• Phase one October 2013 install 8 end to check for interconnectivity and general operation.
• Leave endcaps to successfully survive Swedish winter
• April 2014 Installed 16 end caps for extended trial to gather data on track and bearing conditions.
• Plan to run for 3 months
• Q4 2014 Extended trial with multiple wagons.

Task 1.10 – Smart Endcap Pre pilots at LKAB5
• October 2013 install 8 end caps for a week.
• Leave endcaps to survive Swedish winter
• April 2014 Installed 16 end caps
• Supported 2 modes of operation – network and stand alone
• Plan to run for 3 months

Wireless system is pink end cap at around 20 seconds

Original Concept7
• Add Condition Monitoring such that we can measure the real operating conditions a bearing is experiencing and wirelessly transmit the results back to the driver and/or train maintenance operations team
• Mount the wireless nodes to each wheel
• The wireless mesh network forms automatically over the journey of the train

Experience!8
• Wireless performance not as good in field as in lab
• Lack of access to trains limits test options
• Time to form mesh is unacceptable (20 WirelessHart nodes = 3 hours!)
• Long thin network (560 nodes) easily become clogged
• Mesh reforms dynamically which is a problem on train

Next Steps9
• Extend 1 year pilot starting Q4 2014 using Malmberget to Lulea line.
• Current system uses WirelessHart;• Link to Arrowhead framework is via OPC-UA and PC software• Possibly move Arrowhead frame work down to node levels
• Current system uses primary batteries.• Move to power harvesting with improved power management (8.5.1)
• Improve methods of coping with wireless links (8.4.1)• Optimise wireless link quality via modelling and validation (8.4.2)
