knowledge to the scientific, literary and educational activities pertains to UG courses. Industries tie-
up activities with OEMs for the project design implementation to the education institutes was
focused during this workshop. RAS organized a technical workshop, intent to teach the concepts of
embedded system and hands on training on 30th
October 2014 (09.30 – 17.00 Hrs.).
Workshop was inaugurated by Dr P A Manoharan, Chairman (RAS), IEEE Madras chapter at 09.30
Hrs., followed with the introduction about the workshop by Dr. Jonathan Joshi, Chief Executive
Officer, Eduvance (Vanmat Tech. Pvt. Ltd.), and the key note address was delivered by Shri. H R
Mohan, Chairman, IEEE CS & President, CSI.
The lecture session was presented by Dr. Jonathan Joshi, Chief Executive Officer, Eduvance
(Vanmat Tech. Pvt. Ltd.) and the hands-on training was supported by Dr P A Manoharan.
During this workshop the fundamentals of Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) & its
configuration towards the designing of PWM generator and a data logger was well explained to the
participants. Design Implementation of Data logger concepts using on chip programmable Analog
to Digital Converter (ADC) was also explained. Candidates have learned the use of PSoC Creator
IDE and embed the program on chip.
Six colleges were enrolled in a batch of five students and one faculty to attend this workshop
program namely 1. JPR College of Engineering, 2. Dhanalakshmi Engineering, 3. Sairam
Engineering College, 4. St.Joseph's College of Engineering, 5. Hindustan University and 6. MGR
University.
It was assessed based on their interest towards the lab set up and the faculty’s participations during
the workshop. PSoC4 Development Kit hardware of 18 Nos., were donated to 1. Dhanalakshmi
Engineering, 2. Hindustan University and 3. MGR University for the embedded system lab setup in
their campus.

Workshop on “Concepts and design of PWM controller and Data logger using Embedded
System”
The IEEE Madras section has organized a one day workshop on 22nd September 2014. The
workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Jonathan Joshi, Chief Executive Officer , Eduvance (Vanmat
Tech. Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. P. A. Manoharan Chair(RAS), IEEE Madras Section. Mr.K. Kalaiyarasu,
IEEE Student member, welcomed the gathering and Dr.K.Kaliannan, principal KSRCE , delivered
the presidential address. Around 90 students (including UG students and PG scholars) attended the
workshop.
The objective of this workshop is to allow the participants to explore the fundamentals in
Programmable System on Chip (PSoC) and its applications towards designing a PWM
generator and a data logger. The PWM generator will be implemented using the on-chip
PWM module, whereas the data logger would be implemented using the on chip programmable
Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Candidates have learnt the use of the PSoC Creator IDE and
configuration of the components on chip. He also shared information about design of PWM
controller and data logger using Embedded System. All the participants felt that the workshop was
very useful and effective.
At the end of the workshop, SB chairperson Mr.S. Kannan, delivered the vote of thanks.
RAS organized a workshop on “embedded system”, at IEEE Madras section office on 30th
Oct
2014. H R Mohan and KV Rupchand were participated.
