Working with Expectant MothersYour team member just informed you she’s pregnant. Do you know how to react, what to say (and not to!)? How do you set the right tone of being supportive, respectful and yet be pragmatic during the entire tenure?
OverviewSocial norms are changing – women in the workforce in the organised sector are increasing. So are the instances of their first pregnancies. This brings varied kind of psychological and work challenges, apart from medical restrictions. Managers and team members should be equipped to build and sustain a culture of support, respect and empathy; eliminate the fear and bias; and avoid faux pas, awkward moments, or disrespectful banter between them / team members and make their pregnant colleague feel respected and supported.
Our practitioner-based program brings practical insights for interacting and dealing with expectant mothers during their pregnancy and enable team members and managers to create an inclusive culture fostering support, respect and empathy.

Overview
This 2-2.5 hour program is largely focused at building sensitivity and inclusiveness in the team, specially the approach / outlook of the team manager with respect to expectant mother(s) at workplace. This program highlights and equips managers & team members with the right attitude, knowledge and skills of interacting and managing expectant mother(s) in their team.
Detailed Course Content
The program intends to cover:
§ How to ‘Deal’ with the News of a Pregnancy - It’s normal! So play your part in normalizing this phenomenon. Doesn’t have to be all warm and fuzzy –balance it with pragmatic and fair planning, to keep things even keel.
§ What Pregnancy Is and Isn’t - You don’t know what you don’t know – unlocking some of the conscious and subconscious biases and assumptions, separating the myths from the facts.
§ Dealing with Anxiety - It is natural for expectant mother(s) to have personal and workplace related anxiety and insecurity. How am I adding / reducing these? How is my bias, language and passing casual remarks fuelling those?
§ Dos and Don’ts - How to navigate conversations with your expectant colleague. You don't have to walk on eggshells, but a little mindfulness can go a long way!
§ Plan Ahead, and Be Flexible - 6-8 weeks/month prior to the colleague’s leave, plan on how to cover the work gaps during the colleague’s leave. Align on expectations; communicate plans; keep room for flexibility.
§ Share and Reflect - Having got a sense of how best to support expectant employees, these tips into practice, share your story of what works. Debrief andreflections.
