+ Woodside Train 4 and 5 LNG Expansion Project LARGE GREENFIELD PROJECT ADDING LNG TRAIN 4 AND 5 TO KARRATHA GAS PLANT
FEATURED PROJECT FOR SYSTEMS ENGINEERING - GREENFIELD & BROWNFIELD SERVICES
+ PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Woodside Energy Ltd Train 4 and 5 LNG Expansion Project (A $10
million) in the Karratha Region of Western Australia, included the supply
of Instrument Protective / Fire & Gas Systems for LNG Train 4 and LNG
Train 5 that took place between 2003 and 2007. This Greenfi eld project
saw IES work with Kellogg Joint Venture and Foster Wheeler Energy
Limited to further develop the Karratha Gas Plant. While predominantly
“greenfi eld” projects, there was also signifi cant “brownfi eld” scope to
integrate these systems in the existing plant.

+ THE RESULTS
IES had acquired a considerable pool of knowledge and experience
on the Onshore Instrumentation Systems Upgrade (OISU) project and
philosophies specifi cally related to the plant shutdown system, which
were of signifi cant value to the LNG project. This helped with seemless
intergration of LNG Train 4 and 5 to the Karratha Gas Plant.
Engineering and specifi cation of IPS hardware to be purchased from
Triconex via KJV/FW purchasing. Management of contractual and
technical interfaces with Triconex the principal equipment vendor and
Honeywell the principle DCS vendor.
Conducted FAT testing in Perth, including full energised I/O testing and
simulation of DCS functionality and graphical displays. Supervision of and
assistance with the installation and commissioning of the IPS equipment.
3000 IO successfully added
The DAD product was used extensively to assist with the project and
technical data transfer and compilation of all loop drawing information.
Successful upgrade without disruptions to production or infringement to
operating integrity utilising plant shutdown opportunities. The project was
completed on-time, within budget and with no Loss Time due to Incident’s.
