CONCEPT SELECTION:
From multiple concepts, the following were selected:1. Transmission Type – RF Antenna2. User Data Protocol – USB3. RF Protocol – SimpliciTI4. Visual Feedback – Status LEDs5. Microcontroller/Transceiver – CC1111 System on Chip
DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AND TEST RESULTS:Elements highlighted in green are values achieved on final prototype
PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD IMPLEMENTATION:
OVERALL SYSTEM RESULTS:
1. The mid-range wireless module performs up to or better than all design specifications.
2. The module has passed all tests.3. The system is modular and can be used in place of other WOCCS
team projects.
FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS:
The main aspect of this module that could be upgraded is the transmission data rate. The hardware has the capability to send data much faster than currently implemented in software. The software is not completely optimized for the best possible speed of data.
SOFTWARE:
Custom embedded software was designed for the system on chip. It was developed in the C language and it implements:
1. WOCCS Data Protocol2. USB Communication3. Bandwidth Calculation4. Channel Management5. Status LEDs

MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mid Range wireless module is designed to wirelessly transmit command and telemetry data between a base station and remote unit at a mid-range distance.
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The objective of this project is to design a mid-range RF (Radio Frequency) module that will serve as the communication link between a base station and a land vehicle for automated control. The module is part of the Wireless Open-Source/Open-Architecture Command and Control System (WOCCS). This module will be interchangeable with another mid-range and long-range RF module and will be used to control the vehicle's movements and bi-directionally send the status of the vehicle in real-time for a range of up to 200m.

FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS RESULTS:
The 915MHz frequency band was chosen to ensure reliable transmission for up to a transmission distance of 200 meters without the use of an amplifier. The results below show the ideal line-of-sight transmission distance without the use of an amplifier at the three most common frequency bands allowed without the use of a license.
