On October 17th we will be celebrating Ashley’s
50th birthday. Although I know she will be irritated with me for sharing her age with all of you, it is always a big brother’s job to embarrass his little sister. Let me also remind you that this is the sister who has thoroughly enjoyed calling me “Grandpa Eli” ever since my children started having kids. So, announcing her birthday is the least I can do.
Time certainly does fly by, and it seems like just yesterday Ashley was putting up with all of my pranks and teasing. Although I did embrace my older-brother role of picking on Ashley for the majority of our childhood, I have always been proud to call her my sister. I also like to think that all my big brother shenanigans helped make her as tough and funny as she is today. Ashley is also incredibly intelligent and driven. She has a degree from Bates College, a top liberal arts school, and an impressive job résumé, which includes employment from the White House on Reagan’s trip advance team. However, as successful as Ashley’s academic and professional careers have been, I have always been most impressed with her love, support, kindness, and generosity as a mom, wife, daughter, aunt, and sister. I speak for us all as a family when I say we are so lucky to have her in our lives. Happy Birthday Ash! We love you!

What a fast and furious 2014
Vintage! We started harvesting
Pinot Noir and most of the white wine
varieties like Chardonnay, Viognier and
Riesling the last week of August! Th is is
4–5 weeks ahead of our normal schedule
and caught us a little off guard. We were
expecting an early harvest, but not this
early and not to this extent. Almost
all of the Pinot Noir and white varieties were harvested within
three weeks, and the only grapes left out there were Syrah and the
other Rhone reds. We are typically picking these varieties well into
October and November, but this year the majority of the grapes were
harvested in September. Our production team was a little run down
by the long nights and intense work, but we kept at it and the wines
are showing great! Expect delicious and fruit-forward wines from the
2014 vintage with moderate structure and silky tannin. We are all
thinking about the holidays with family and friends and a little time
off ! I hope you enjoy these Wine Club wines and share them with
your friends and family!

Fess Parker Winery has announced the appointment of Tyler Eck as Assistant Winemaker.
Tyler, a UCSB graduate (Class of 2007, Arts/Geography) also received his graduate diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University in New Zealand.
Previously, Tyler enjoyed successful stints at Domaine François Villard, in the Rhône Valley of France. Th ere, he oversaw cellar duties and worked with white wines from the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage and St. Joseph regions. He also worked at Stefano Lubiana Wines in Tasmania, Church Road and Waipara Downs, both in New Zealand, and at Sonoma Coast’s Peay Vineyards.
Tyler will be assisting winemaker, Blair Fox. Next time you see him around the winery make sure to say hello!
