This is why Festo is a strong partner for you:

• Over 15 years’ experience in fieldbus technology

• One of the first in the field of industrial communication

• The first to offer a high IP protection rating

• The first with M12

• Experience with 30 fieldbus protocols and Ethernet

• Advice, expertise, ideas for alternative solutions

Powerful even in aggressive environments – thanks to

IP65/67

Drilling emulsion, coolants, dust ... even Festo’s electrical

products are totally unaffected by these: Furthermore,

decentralised I/Os are available in protection class

IP65/67.

To allow direct machine mounting, Festo’s valve terminals

and decentral I/O modules have always been designed for

harsh field conditions, with the high degrees of protection

IP65/67.

Industrial installation systems – 3 steps to quickly achieve your goal

[A] You define the machine and installation concept.

[B] You check our portfolio according to the requirements of your

relevant industry.

[C] You select the suitable valve terminal according to function

and performance. New: Even greater system competence from

Festo in central and decentral installation concepts – with data-

base-supported software for ideal and inexpensive concepts.

Developed for you quickly and simply.

We know: It’s the application that counts.

All in all: It’s quick and easy to find the right valve terminal

from all the options offered by Festo.

Reason: Whether general production automation or special

applications and industries: The critical factors for selection

of the optimum valve terminal are generally the machine

concept, the electrical installation concept, the respective

applications and the specific requirements of the relevant

industry.

Festo provides the answer: Highest problem solving exper-

tise. Thanks to the innovative valve terminal portfolio which

provides the appropriate valve terminal for a wide range of

applications.

[A] Four principles – four choices, depending on the machine and installation concept

Multiple drives and functions are combined and fully controlled via a large valve

terminal. The valve terminals are mounted at an easily accessible position, e.g.

in front of the machine, on the machine rack or above. The pneumatic control

loop should cover only a few metres.

Advantages of the concept:

• Minimum overhead costs thanks to a high number of channels per fieldbus node

• Minimised expenses for pneumatic and electrical supply

• Minimised expenditure thanks to centralised mounting

• Functionality supported by widespread use of signal mix (analogue, digital) on

modular valve terminals

• Flow-optimisation thanks to the combination of valve sizes

• Synergetic advantages through pneumatic and electrical function integration,

with facilities for easy system integration and remote diagnosis.

• Central service point if service is required

Festo solutions for this field:

• VTSA type 44

• ISO type 04

• MPA type 32

• Midi/Maxi type 03

[C] The “What’s what” of Festo valve terminals: Selection criteria

Body assembly, heavy equipment engineering

Robust, resistant to welding spatter, flame-

retardant, with sturdy fieldbus system con-

nection technology for reliable protocol

transmission. Standardised products are

often required as well. The objective is

high availability of machines by means of

integrated diagnostics concept, individual

channel diagnosis, conditioning monito-

ring and intelligent pre-processing.

Sorted according to machine and installation concepts: The selection of the appropriate valve terminal is dependent on specifically required functions and performance characteristics.

For more flexibility – 8 connection technologies with protection class IP20, IP65/IP67: M8 3-pin, M8 4-pin, M12 5-pin, M12 5-pin metal thread, M12 8-pin, Harax®, Sub-D, CageClamp

Festo valve terminals with these

characteristics include:

• VTSA type 44

• ISO type 04/14

• Midi/Maxi type 03

• CPV18 type 10

• MPA type 32

Food processing and packaging industry

Clean, hygiene design – easy to clean,

corrosion resistant and resistant to

cleaning agents.

Suitable for HACCP or GMP.

Festo solutions for this sector include:

• Clean design valve terminal type 15

for mounting within the process

• CPV valve terminal type 10, ready for

installation, mounted in special stain-

less steel control cabinets.

Light assembly industry

Highly compact and clean design: For

example, up to clean-room standard

through the use of ducted exhaust air.

Ideal for the manufacture and proces-

sing of extremely small components in

the semiconductor and electronics

industries, as well as in the pharma-

ceutical industry.

Festo solutions for this sector include:

• Valve terminals from the CPV-SC/CPA-

SC family (Smart Cubic)

• Miniature valves for pilot control or

for miniature drives

• Fast-switching valves for optimised

cycle times

Process automation

Not all processes are the same; this is

why there is such a huge variation in the

requirements. Depending on the appli-

cations, the key features are:

• Long service life, tried and tested tech-

nology

• Optimised control cabinet installation

(IP20 terminals and pneumatic multi-

pin connector)

Festo solutions for this sector include:

• Many valve terminals from the stan-

dard range with particularly long

product life cycles.

• CPX/MPA with up to 128 3/2-way

valves

• CPV-Ex-i with ATEX and UL certifi-

cation

• AS-interface solutions

• Special designs

2 Decentralised installation system

Individual functions are connected decentrally to a small valve terminal using

very short tubing lengths. The installation system uses a hybrid cable for data

signals and the power supply to provide an installation-saving link to a central

fieldbus node for up to 16 modules.

Advantages of the concept:

• Reduced cycle times of up to 40 % thanks to short tubing lengths, optimum

flow rates and switching times

• Smaller valves can be used thanks to low air consumption

• Compact units for confined installation space

• Minimal weight for portable use

• Automatic configuration thanks to teach-in key for true Festo plug and work®

• Short cables simplify and speed up servicing and maintenance

Festo solutions for this sector include:

• CPV type 10

• MPA type 32

• CPV-SC type 80

• Installation system CPI type 55

• 3 platforms for highly specialised CPI I/O modules

• 3 platforms for decentral CPI valve terminals

3 Decentralised installation for upstream functions (fieldbus direct)

Redirecting, loading and unloading frequently takes place outside the machine.

However, tools on robots or handling systems or stoppers and gates are also

placed upstream. In this case, small valve terminals with directly integrated

fieldbus connections or AS-interface components are ideal.

Advantages of the concept:

• All benefits of decentralised installation

• Ideal stages of functionality for small, medium-sized and distributed function

groups

• Can be expanded to include any components from the installation system CPI

• Comprehensive diagnostics and condition monitoring per slave via fieldbus.

• No subordinate sub-system: Fieldbus configuration per slave

Festo solutions for this sector include:

• MPA type 32

• CPX terminal type 50

• CPV type 10

• Installation system CPI type 55

Festo fieldbus solutions for this sector include:

• CPV type 10

• CPV-SC type 80

• CPA-SC type 82

• CDVI type 15

• CPV type 10

• MPA type 32

4 Hybrid installation system (centralised/decentralised)

Only from Festo: A comprehensive combination of individual systems and their

specific advantages – and all expandable to any desired degree! With Festo, you

can implement both central and/or decentral concepts, even in protected in-

stallation spaces – with optimum installation in a control cabinet or on a control

cabinet wall.

Advantages of the concept:

• Optimised, decentralised control loops for short cycle times and high machine

performance

• Cost-optimised fieldbus interface, minimised overhead costs

• Maximum choice of centralised and decentralised function and technology

modules

• Choice of diagnosis options
