Spring has arrived and you know what that means, time to get the Model A’s ready for the road. We have a lot of tour-ing to do this year. This is a heads up for new members. We use CB radios to communicate during our travels and you need to be in the loop by having one installed in your Model A. If you should have trouble or get lost this works great, sometimes, cell phones are out of range. So do yourself a favor, be responsible and in-stall one. We have club members that will be more than happy to help you choose a good CB radio, give you advice or help you with an installation. When on tours be sure the person following you sees you turn. If they are out of sight wait till they see you before driving on after you have made your turn. Remember to always keep a safe distance between cars so others can pass. Be sure to check the schedule for upcoming tours and activities, and then attend the meetings so you can be a part of the camaraderie. Our March meeting will be Monday the 25th Dennis Ellerman; Vice President will conduct the meeting during my absence. Due to the cancellation of the February meeting the program will be Tour Planning for 2013 and a program by John Stone. Chris Cushman President

NOTE FROM THE EDITORNOTE FROM THE EDITORNOTE FROM THE EDITOR

It seems like I have written the follow-ing information sometime in my past. I am be-coming a firm believer that computers are pre-programed to crash at the most unexpected time. I had my main computer exactly 6 years and 2 days. With every crash you do loose something and that was my saved emails. There may be information that is missing in this newsletter. If this happened to you please send me your information again and I will publish it in the April newsletter. In the event you did not receive your emailed newsletter from me and as you have in the past, please let me know and I will add you back on the email list. I have enclosed the “2013 A’s In The Wild Regional Meet” registration form. You will find it on pages 7-9 of this newsletter. 2013 Regional Meet Registration forms will also be available at the March meeting. Richard and I will see you on the tours in March and April. Information about the tours are on page 3. Linda Kibbe Editor

TOUR PLANNING

A’s in the Wild Update On Wednesday, after a fun day at the zoo, we will have the Hubley Der-by race. This event will be held at the hotel. The Heart of America Model A Ford Club has agreed to bring their track and officiate the race. Since several people have asked about the Hubley rules, I’ll go over some of them in this article, so everyone can start building their cars to the correct specifications. We will be following the rules as outlined on the MAFCA website with a slight change to the classes. We will have two classes for both speed and People’s Choice: Youth, ages 3-17 (child should have helped build the car) and Adult, ages 18 and over.

The cars must be metal 1:20 scale models made by Hubley, Gabriel, or Scale Model. Any of the seven Model “A” body styles may be used: Sedan, Station Wagon, Coupe, Roadster, Roadster Pickup, Victoria, and Phaeton.

Cars must be stock including the original tires, wheels, and axle screws. No modifications allowed. Steer-ing may be secured or loose at maker’s choice.

Weight of each car can be no more than 1 pound, 5 ounces (station wagon weight). A small amount of leeway will be allowed due to the differences of scales. Weights added to lighter cars must be secured, not loose in the car.

A dry lubricant (graphite for example) is allowed at owner’s choice. After the cars are checked in, all handling and racing of the cars is done by race personnel. Cars from each class will be pitted against each other in random order to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Trophies will be awarded to the top three places for speed in both classes and for People’s Choice. So, start building your car, or tune up the one you already have, and let’s have a great race! Claudia Ellerman

DON ARNOLD’S TOWN SEDAN In 1994 Don Arnold bought a ’30 Murray Body, Town Sedan from Gene Bosserman. The Model A was in running condition but was otherwise in bad condition. The chassis was worn out, awful upholstery, rusty ap-pearance and the fenders were beat up to say the least. Don took on the challenge and finished restoring it in just a year. In the process he decided to paint the car green. He added wheel wells to the fenders and had all six wheels blasted, primed and painted green. For un-known reasons by the time it went to the paint shop he decided to paint the car maroon. The wheels obviously didn’t match the body but he decided to leave it that way. Since the car was restored in ‘95 Don & Kat have driven it on several club tours, mostly in the state of Kansas, maybe to Oklahoma once. Fast forward to 2012 and Don went over to

Bossermans’ house for the sale they were having prior to moving into an assisted living facilities. Gene gave Don a 311 page catalog from Mac’s Antique Auto Parts, of Lockport New York. Several months went by and Don casually picked up the Mac’s catalog and was thumbing through it. In the upholstery section the picture of a 30 Town Sedan caught his attention. This wasn’t just any 30 Town Sedan. THIS WAS AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF DON’S CAR. It had maroon paint, green wheels, Wichita Air Capital, medallion on the headlight bar. Chevy horn, wiper motor upside down, windshield stick-er and if you look close you can see the flower vases in-side. How did Mac’s, in New York, get a picture of Don’s car?? Don doesn’t have the slightest idea and he has never purchased any parts from Mac. RG

This Model A Ford pocket price list was recently dis-covered by Dennis Anderson at a Wichita Estate sale.
