Who am I? Pastoral Care in the Congregation Easter Term 2011
Jean Mornard
Slide 3
Who am I? I ask, who am I to enter into the dark place of
someone's pain? Or the sun filled warmth of a joy not my own? Who
am I to say, I know, I understand, I am listening? And He answers,
you are the one whom I called. You are my ears, my arms, my hands,
my love. You are my wounded healer, my agent of hope. And I ask,
who am I to refuse?
Slide 4
What is a minister? The minister, as a living memory of God's
great deeds in history, is called to heal by reminding people of
their own wounded past and by connecting their wounds with the
wounds of all humanity, redeemed by the suffering of God in Christ.

We often may want to run away from our home to hide out and
play deaf, dumb, and blind for a while. But we are ministers. And
so we keep returning to our people, faithful to our vocation, and
growing strong in humility and love. Henri Nouwen, The Living
Reminder love And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But
the greatest of these is love.
