Basketball fundraiser returns toChurchville-Chili to benefit local family
The annual benefit basketball game between the Churchville-Chili LEO Club and the Churchville Lions Club will take place on Sunday, March 6. Game time begins at 1 p.m. at the Middle School gym C (enter from Fairbanks Road entrance through door #37).
This fun and popular event will benefit Dan and Catherine Kweicien’s daughter, Kailee, who has been bravely battling a form of childhood cancer for the past three years.
Catherine teaches at the Churchville-Chili Middle School and Dan is a 911 dispatcher and volunteer fireman.
The Churchville Lions Club team will join with the Chili Lions, parents of LEO members and the Churchville Fire De-partment. An exhibition contest between the boys and girls basketball programs as well as teams of teachers and coaches will also take place.
Any donations will be accepted by LEO Club, Lions Club or Fire Depart-ment members. They can also be mailed to the Middle School at 139 Fairbanks Road, Churchville, NY 14428 Attention: LEO Club.
The LEO Club consists of students in grades 7 through 12 who perform various community service activities. These students prepare a monthly meal at the Ronald McDonald House and routinely attend functions and interact with students at the Batavia School For The Blind.
They also attend Relay For Life and assist at Riga Recreation events as well as numerous school and community func-tions. Many activities are also done in concert with their sponsors, the Church-ville Lions Club, such as Country Fair,
Kailee Kwiecien is battling a rare form of child-hood cancer for the second time. She endured 42 weeks of chemotherapy and 25 days of radiation at age two. At age three, after nine months of clear scans, cancer was found in Kailee’s pelvis, bone marrow and very small spots on her kidneys and lungs. After 38 additional rounds of treatment, Kailee and her family await scan results to see what will be the next steps for this courageous little girl. Provided photo.
environmental cleanups and chicken barbeques.
The LEO Club Advisors include Mary Pat Dewey, PE teacher at the Senior High School and Marty Molinari, Life Member of the Churchville Lions Club.
