Year One
Year One had a very successful Sports Day practise this week and they are all
looking forward to the real thing after half term. They have also put on their
reporter's hats and been busy writing newspaper articles about different things
currently happening in school. Well done to 1HP for the brilliant assembly all
about endangered species. We still await a reply from Prince William!
Very important!!!! The last two days of this half term (Thurs 26th Fri 27th May) are the Garden Workshop days. Children
need to come to school wearing clothes they can get dirty as well as any adult helpers. Thank you to those
of you who have volunteered to help on those days - we now have enough volunteers and confirmation
letters have been sent out.
Finally, all Year One children will be sitting their Phonic Screen after half term, during the week beginning
13th June. These are simple tests where your child is required to use their phonic knowledge to read 40
real and nonsense words. You can help prepare at home by continuing to read every night and completing
phonics home learning.
Year Two
Meanwhile, Year Two have completed their Reading SATs papers this week. The teachers were impressed
with how hard they have worked. Next week they will be doing the Maths papers.
They have also been solving mathematical problems using all four operations and in the
context of money in maths, written letters of persuasion and stories set in an imaginary
world. They have been working very hard to include good word choices and present
their writing neatly. In topic they have been learning how humans can keep
healthy through being hygienic by washing hands and brushing their teeth.
Mrs Brewer, Assistant Head, Year 1 & 2
Year 3 and 4
Year 3 are continuing to plan their Europe topic with the other 7 Septenary schools. Over the next few weeks the children will be
working collaboratively with children from St Marks and Moordown St John’s which will be a really great experience for them. Year 3
will be focusing on the country of Italy so if you have any information or resources that could help please let
your child’s class teacher know! It will make their topic work even more exciting.
In maths the children are currently investigating the properties of shapes; horizontal, vertical and parallel
lines, right angles, rotations and measuring shape perimeters. Next week they will be continuing to embed
their learning by plotting coordinate points on graphs, in order to create polygon shapes. Why don’t you have
a go at home together? If you have any queries please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Some of Year 4 will be visiting some local toddler groups during a couple of afternoons next week as they
have created some particularly impressive plays and puppets. They are very excited about sharing their learning with all the toddlers
and we hope that the toddlers will enjoy seeing the puppets and watching their puppet shows.
Year 4 are also starting their fundraising for animal charities next week with a 'Wear it Wild' dress up day. On Wednesday 25th May,
children in Year 4 will need to wear something animal related (animal print, animal onesie, an image of an animal on
a t-shirt) and bring in a 50p donation, for the WWF. A Year 4 animal exhibition will also be taking place in the big hall
on the afternoons of Wednesday 8th June and Thursday 9th June between 1:30 and 3:30pm. This event is
for younger children but will also enable Year 4 to showcase their recent learning about animals from around the
world. There will also be some toddler- friendly activities so all family members are welcome.
Please could you continue to practise reading the time from analogue clocks at every available opportunity and also practise
handwriting joins with your child/children focusing especially on neat, clear letters.
Many thanks for all your support with this.
Mrs Lidster, Assistant Head, Year 3 & 4
