CALL TO WORSHIP Linda Hermes

One: O Lord, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. All: We gather to celebrate you! We gather to worship you! All glory and honor and praise to you, Our Creative and Ever-Creating God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION One: Creative, passionate God,

you delight to shape the world in beauty and harmony. You invite us to participate in the balance of creation. We grow in wisdom as our experience unfolds; we take good learning out of difficult situations yet also find our well-meant endeavors leading to unintended consequences. Too often we give in to temptation that disrupts the joyous, chaotic order of the universe. We cannot undo all our mistakes, but we can turn once more to the living presence of Jesus and find new ways to live and love each other and the earth.

All: Don’t let our hearts be fearful, but in silence let’s acknowledge our sin and seek the forgiveness that restores your peace.

—silent prayer—

WORDS OF ASSURANCE One: Even as Adam and Eve faced the consequences of their sin,

our God prepared a way for them still to be connected to the earth and to the living presence of God. This is true for all of us: through Christ’s life, ministry, death and resurrection, we can persist, upright and strong, for our sins are forgiven.

All: Thanks be to God!

* THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ’s peace and love with your neighbor.

* SONG 623—I’ve Got Peace like a River African American Spiritual

Please consider joining the team at www.MakingStridesWalk.org/DetroitMI. The cost to join is free, but the team is selling t-shirts for $15. Part of the proceeds will go toward the team goal. Please call Barb Stetson at (248)302-3033 with questions.

SHARE YOUR BOUNTY THIS SUMMER WITH THE BALDWIN CENTER Help feed the hungry with fresh produce this summer by contributing produce you grow yourself or fruits and veggies you purchase at a grocery store or farmers’ market. Please deliver your donations to the church or take them directly to The Baldwin Center at 212 Baldwin Ave. in Pontiac. Items brought to Northbrook will typically be delivered to the center on Mondays or Tuesdays.

FORT STREET OPEN DOOR Join us as we travel to the Fort Street Open Door program on Thursday, September 29 at 8:00 a.m. We will be leaving, as usual, from the church parking lot. This is a great opportunity to be of service to the broader Detroit metropolitan area. Depending on the interest of the group, we may stop off for lunch at one of the many interesting restaurants opening everywhere in the "D.” This is also a great opportunity to share gently used clothing, bedding, towels, etc. Please drop them in the bin in the church hallway. They will be greatly appreciated by their new owners. Please call Seglinda Kelle-Pritchard at (248)626-6514 If you have questions.

PEWABIC POTTERY REVISITED The Adult Education group is sponsoring another trip to Pewabic Pottery in Detroit on Friday, September 30 from 6—9 p.m. The adventure will include a mini 20 minute tour, glazing a small vase or luminary and making a 4 inch by 4 inch tile. Everyone will have the opportunity to complete two projects. The cost of the trip is $45. There is a sign up sheet in Fellowship Hall, and your check to Northbrook Presbyterian Church will secure your reservation. Pewabic allows for food and beverage consumption, and we will be arranging for some simple appetizers and adult beverages. Donations will be greatly appreciated! The food needs to be kept simple and ready to serve because there are no facilities for preparation or heating. You are welcome even if you attended the first tour. However, we must limit this to 25 people so sign up early. We will be taking the church van, car pooling or you can drive on your own. Unfortunately, for those with ambulatory needs, there are no elevators, and the workshops are on the second floor.
