• Monza can be considered a climber cycling city
• About 22 km of cycling routes, some of which are still not interconnected
• Cycling in Monza represents 8.9% of the modal share, if we consider roads accessing the city centre
• Cyclists are increasing year by year:
• 8500 in 2008
• 10120 in 2009
• 12000 in 2010

• In RTD stage of the measure, a bike plan for the city of Monza and a project for a bike sharing scheme have been developed
• The bike plan has been approved by the City Government, together with constructing criteria for cycling routes
• Cycling in Monza represents 8.9% of the modal share, if we consider roads accessing the city centre
• Cyclists are increasing year by year

• Bike sharing scheme has been delayed because, due to economical crisis, the Municipality was not allowed to invest money originally allocated as its share of project funding
• Some extra revenues have been realized within the end of 2011.
• Improvements will concern accessibility to the railway station and infrastructural interventions

• Problems to install ramps to transport bicycles along the stairs in the station
• A camcorder controlling the outdoor cycle parking, where many thefts have been reported, will be installed
• 800 metres of cycling route have been completed in Via Buonarroti
• Revamping of cycling walkway in Via San Gottardo

• Connection of Via Monte Santo with Via Carnia in San Rocco district
• Connection between two sections of Via Adda in Sant’Albino district

• Capital costs – € 760.000,00 (to be better defined at the end of interventions) plus 10.285,00 VAT included for the camcorder at the station

BICYCLE CENSUS IN 2009:Survey on a sample of 298 people MODAL SPLIT• 62% of interviewed people use always/ often the
bicycle, mostly to keep fit, to respect environment and to save money
• 33% use it rarely mostly because of traffic, few cycling routes and long journey time
• Journeys last less than15 minutes (34%) or between 16 and 30 minutes (32%)
• Cycling improvements might lead to an increase in cycling

• 32% of surveyed people suffered from thefts, 32% from falls and 13,8% from accidents
• In case of theft, only 44% reported to the police

PROCESS EVALUATION
