Origin of the report
This report is about the operation of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd was authorized by the
faculty of Business Communication as part of Business Communication report.
Problem and purpose
Our report is about the operation of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd where will discuss about
the Technical and Management processes.
Our investigations will help the readers to know the operation of modern textile mill.
Historical Background
The Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd was established in 1997 in Dhaka Export Processing
Zone (DEPZ) at Savar. Initially it was an acrylic project and it was a good profitable
industry as well. It was Joint venture business of Bangladesh and Taiwan. In the year
2007 it was converted into Knit Composite Industry. Day by day the production is
increasing. It is hoped that in the near future it will become a profitable industry.
Limitation
We could not include quality of their product, number of workers, salary of workers and
their financial status. If we included the readers would be benefited.
Scope
Our report on a private textile mill in Bangladesh.
Sources and method of colleting information
All our information about the operation of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd we gathered by
visiting the mill. Also we got some information by browsing internet as well.
Definition, Initializes, and Acronyms
The Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd an export quality mill performing a composite project.

The word composite is used because of the mill is doing here knitting, dyeing, finishing
and garments making.

2. Background of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd.Established in 1997 with its factory located at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) at
Savar in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The factory produces 100% export oriented best quality
100% acrylic sweater yarn. From the very beginning they are maintaining quality of their
products and strictly maintain delivery schedule. All kind of fancy sweater yarn
3GG/5GG/7GG/10GG/12gg.
The division of our project work –

2. Management system.
3. Technical system:As a composite mill their technical system includes knitting, dyeing, finishing, and
garments making. By all of these system fabrics are made from their industry. They hire
the qualified worker from different places for making the good fabrics. In their technical
system they are using modern machineries. These machineries are bought from the
Taiwan and Pakistan.

3.1. Knitting system:
Knitting system is a system where clothes are made from wool or cotton thread using to
long thin knitting needles on a machine. For knitting they use the machines bought from
Taiwan such machines are modern quality machines so that one worker can operate two
machines at a time easily. The operator gives wool or cotton thread in the machine
according to system. Then the machine makes clothes automatically without hand
touching. After finishing the knitting clothes are fold by folding machine. The picture of

3.2. Dyeing system:
It is the second system of technical operation. White clothes are dyed by using special
liquid or substance for scoring they use , . For color dyeing they use
these chemicals come from Taiwan. After dyeing
chemicals and water are removed by hydro machine. Dyeing machine give output as per
as it’s unit capability. The dyeing machines they use are called Jet Dyeing machine. In
their industry they have 11 Jet Dyeing machines. Clothes are dyed as per as buyer choice.
Then the clothes are dried by dryer machine.

3.3. Finishing system:
After dyeing clothes are taken to finishing machine. The merchandisers decide about the
weight, GSM, and width of the clothes as per as buyer choice. Finishing machines cut the
clothes according to instructions. There have some scales to measure the size of the
clothes. In this mill they have got 2 finishing machines. They actually use modern quality
finishing machine those have come from Taiwan. This is the last operation before the
garments making.

3.4. Garments Making:
Then the appropriate sized clothes are taken for garments making. They use a large sector
for garments making. The tailors decide about the sizes of garments. First they draw the
size in a hard paper and cut it as a sample. The tailor cuts clothes as buyer given pattern.
After deciding about the size of the garments clothes are sent to sewing worker to make
garments. In this mill they have 50 sewing machines. These machines are modern quality
machine so that they work speedy. After making garments these are sent for quality
checking. The checkers check whether the garments are appropriate for selling. In this
mill they make T-shirt, Guernsey and sweater. The products need to iron, after finishing
the iron the products are packed by the worker. The system of garments making are

4. Management system
4.1. Marketing department
There is a marketing department of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd. They receive the
order from the buyer. They sell their product outside of the country by Letter of Credit
(LC) in a Bank and local cash transaction of payment in cash. According to buyer order
they produce and dyed and then supply by LC. Marketing department always moving
outside of the factory to receive the orders as because factory production depends on the
basis of sufficient order.
4.2. Accounting department
The accounting department receives the LC in cash through the bank and local
transaction of payment in cash or by cheque. Their payment system in US dollar. That
dollar is converted by bank to taka. They pay money to workers as gradation. Salary
gradation already set by the Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Author (BEPZA). These
grades are A, B, C, and D.
4.3. Administration department
Requirement system always through advertisement or get notice as per as requirement
concerning department. The leave administrative action transport controlled by
administrative department. Administration department also look after the welfare of
workers and stuffs.
4.4. Store department
Another department is store their function is to receiving the goods, yarn, fabrics, and
delivery the finished goods.
4.5. Commercial department
They are preparing all invoices packing list to export their fabrics. All sorts of import and
export are done by commercial department. All customs, vat is also done by them.

4.6. Control authority
In their mill, have a control authority to control their department. All departmental head
control by General Manager. There is also board of direction which is headed by
chairman. All sorts of big decision have come from board of direction as well as
chairman.

5. ConclusionWe want to conclude our report here about the operation of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd. It
is a composite mill, includes knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garments making. After
knitting a fabric, is ready to dye. They use color as per as buyer choice. Chemical and
water are removed by the dyeing machine from the cloth. Finishing machine takes
weight, width, and GSM. Then clothes are ready to make garments. In management
system they have marketing department, order receiving department, payment department
separately. The head of the department is the chairman who controls all departments and
takes all big decisions. General Manager also controls the technical and managerial
sector.
The Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd, a modern textile mill, situated at Dhaka Export
Processing Zone (DEPZ), ownership of Taiwan is a profitable industry. Though the mill
is controlled by the authority of Taiwan, they control it properly.

As the authority of Shepherd Textile (BD) Ltd bring standard quality raw materials and
machineries from Taiwan and Pakistan that’s why they can produce standard quality
products. As their work is on the basis of receiving orders so they need to extend their
marketing department.
If they can provide standard quality products like they are providing in the recent year it
would be a good profitable and popular textile mill as well.
