PART OF DANUBE STRATEGY
• River Danube passes through City of Vukovar as center of
Vukovar-Srijem County which has great influence in preparing
future projects and strategies as part of EUSDR - EU Strategy
for the Danube Region through regional innovation
strategies/smart specialisation in Danube transfer centres.
• Focus on strengthening research systems through exchange of
good practices towards the implementation of the European
Research Area (ERA) framework and supporting the
development of smart specialisation strategies.
EKO-SUSTAV Ltd • is founded in 2008 in Vukovar-Srijem County, Croatia and main task is managing
waste management centre in Stari Jankovci (not yet built). Construction of complete waste management system with implementation of EU directives arises from provisions of Republic of Croatia Waste management strategy (Official Gazette: NN 130/05) and from Republic of Croatia Waste management Plan in period 2007. - 2015. (Official Gazette: NN 85/07).
• Founder of four power plants on biogas (and biomass).
• Involved in mainly everything related to protection of environment and energy saving in our county, managing green office in City of Vukovar for the whole county. EKO-SUSTAV Ltd. has recognized that energetic efficiency is creating preconditions for development of competitive and sustainable economy with protection of environment.
• Ongoing cooperation with the Environmental protection and energy efficiency Fund in Zagreb regarding projects for installing of solar systems for private objects, and installing photovoltaic systems on county owned buildings, adaptation of objects in Vukovar-Srijem County to reduce energy losses and in that way create better utilisation of energy, ongoing is also education of Vukovar-Srijem County residents in waste management, energetic efficiency and cooperation with cities and municipalities regarding to above mentioned projects.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE • Project CLUSTHERM, implemented 2008-2009., partner: Vukovar-Srijem
County, financed by 7th Framework Programme for research and development – FP7 with goal to establish new research cluster for geothermal waters usage and development of capacities of rural economy through exploitation of geothermal waters.
• ABCDE Posavina (Agricultural Biomass Cross-border Development of Energy in Posavina) partner: Vukovar-Srijem County, IPA CBC Croatia – BiH 2007, 2008 program - project exploring possibilities for agricultural biomass usage in our and our partner counties.
• PROGRES – Protection of Nature and Globalisation of Renewable Energy Sources, partner:EKO-SUSTAV Ltd, IPA II Cross-border programme Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina - Overall objective: By using renewable energy sources (RES) contribute to environment protection and enhancing the life conditions through cooperation of two cross-border areas.
• REPRO - Renewable Energy PROjects Cross-border Exchange, partner:EKO-SUSTAV Ltd, IPA Cross-border programme Croatia-Serbia - Overall objective: Improvement of knowledge’s of local governments in districts Bačka and Srijem in managing systems of renewable energy sources.
DANUBE-INCO.NET • Project full title: " Danube Region INCO-NET “ is a FP7 project which started on
01.01.2014. with duration of 36 months. Danube-INCO.NET understands itself as
strategic high-level coordination and support action. Its background is the macro-
regional approach of the European Union, in particular the EU Strategy for the
Danube Region (EUSDR) and its Priority Areas for Knowledge Society (PA7) and
for Competitiveness (PA8).
• Project consists of a consortium of 19 partners with main partner and coordinator
ZENTRUM FUER SOZIALE INNOVATION (ZSI, Austria), to exchange with
other regional policy initiatives and to enhance bi-regional dialogue with a focus on
the implementation of the ‘Innovation Union’ and the European Research Area
(ERA) Framework.
• Danube-INCO.NET has selected the societal challenges of energy efficiency and
renewable energy in a bio-based economy which are addressed by mapping and
analysis, clustering and networking and the implementation of concrete pilot
activities. Moreover also the societal challenge of innovative and inclusive societies
in the Danube region is addressed through the provision of analytical evidence.

ROLE OF EKO-SUSTAV Ltd IN
PROJECT • EKO-SUSTAV Ltd participates in project with two goals - as future
organizator of activities on center for transfer of technologies - DTC (Danube Transfer Centres) in Vukovar-Srijem County and as participant in one of pilot activities within in project founded clusters related to Environmental Technologies and Energy Efficiency.
• The pilot activities shall lead to sustainable cooperation and also contribute to achieving milestones of the EUSDR and prepare the ground (pilot) for sustainable networks showing role-model which will be documented and replicated for other societal challenges.
• Danube Transfer Centres task is based on the existing cooperation Stuttgart-Bratislava-Cluj in technology transfer to bridge the gap between research and innovation, and shares the experiences gained through the Enterprise Europe Network. Good practices developed will be documented and shared widely and concretely implemented in additional cases (DTC Novi Sad / DTC Ruse / DTC Vukovar), which will be “one stop shops” mainly for SMEs in regard of innovation & technology transfer.
EUSDR/DANUBE-INCO.NET
• The EU Strategy for the Danube Region seeks to create synergies and coordination between existing policies and initiatives taking place across the Danube Region – including also Research and Innovation (R&I) policies, projects and programmes. Cooperation in these fields play an important role in several of the priority areas identified in the region and to develop the knowledge society and to support the competitiveness of enterprises are particularly important objectives.
• The project will be putting in efforts to ensure that events, publications and policy recommendations related to R&I cooperation in the Danube Region will reach an audience as broad as possible interested and engaged in the future macro-regional development of the Danube Region.
DANUBE TRANSFER CENTRE IN
CROATIA • Danube transfer centre in Vukovar-Srijem County, Croatia is
planned to be placed in Technology Park Ltd. Vinkovci, City
of Vinkovci, founded to develop innovative start up
companies, enhancement of knowledge transfer from
universities and development centres to economy, linking
entrepreneurs with education institutions and development
agencies.
• At disposal is free business space where experts can be placed
and work to share the experiences gained through the
Enterprise Europe Network.
PARTICIPATION IN PROJECT
• Is outcome of ongoing cooperation with Ministry for protection of environment, clima and energetics Baden-Württemberg and its international program for cooperation with Croatian Vukovar-Srijem County along with companies Umwelttechnik BW Technologie Baden-Württemberg GmbH and Steinbeis-Donau-Zentrum.
• This is a sign of good praxis in project development and cooperation which will with certainty result with new prospects in EUSDR - EU Strategy for the Danube Region and in cooperation with Baden-Württemberg and Vukovar-Srijem County as a sign that City of Vukovar can prosper even in hard circumstances.

CONCLUSION AND GOALS
• Gaining new knowledge’s through Danube transfer centres
based on existing cooperation’s is good basis for future
developments in the area as Danube Region has huge
economic and innovation potential.
• It is also a great opportunity to Launch concrete actions to
promote smart specialization, technology transfer and
innovative projects.
