Shamrock Club
Members and
Friends,
What a fabulous
St. Patrick's Day!!
What a wonder-
ful, wonderful year!! This is my
last newsletter message as Presi-
dent of The Shamrock Club and all
I can think to say is thank you all
for making my journey memorable.
From the beginning of my term the
Officers and Executive Board have
tried to honor the past while pre-
paring for our future.
My style of leadership was to pick
good people to lead committees and
events and to give them the support
they needed. I also tried to involve
the Officers & Executive board in
every important decision. We re-
organized some events to be more
family friendly and profitable.
Another primary focus as part of us
preparing for the future was to attract
new members and get them in-

Dear Shamrock
Club Members
and Friends,
Easter has come
and gone and we
have the privilege
of celebrating the
“great 50 days”
between Easter and Pentecost Sunday.
This time commemorates the time that
Jesus, in his risen body, appears to his
apostles, disciples and many others.
The gospels relate many of the post-
resurrection visits of Jesus to various
individuals and groups. The truth of
the matter is what we are commemorat-
ing during this holy time is a reality
that we all know in faith: that is, that
the risen Jesus is here among us where
two or three are gathered, when we
celebrate the sacraments, especially the
Eucharist, and in the presence of the
members of the Christian Community.
Sadly, we are often blind and deaf to
his presence, acting as if he were not
here but absent. Faith tells us that he is
here and very available to all of us who
call upon his name.
April also means that we will be choos-
ing new leadership for the Shamrock
Club. There are many worthy candi-
dates, and it behooves us to come and

Treasurer’s Report
For the month ending 2/28/2018, cash is $51,745. Year-
to-date comparisons (FEB18 vs. FEB17) shows overall
net profit is up; the bar down 19% but continues to nar-
row the gap versus this time last year and the club over-
all income is up 27%.
The executive board continues to look at ways to in-
crease revenue. It has been a pleasure to work with
President Mary Grady Strickland! Under her watchful
eye, the Club has experienced a positive financial gain
with the officers and directors working hard to keep this
trend on-going. As we finish March activities (our busi-
est season) I would like to extend a THANK YOU to
everyone working on various committees to make the
events run smoothly while keeping expenses down.
We do not have all numbers in yet for March 17th activi-
ties but I’m comfortable reporting that the overview
shows a very successful green season! More to come on
that as we wrap up our fiscal year so stay tuned.
If you’ve had friends and/or family that experienced any
of our wonderful events, please encourage them to con-
sider becoming a member. As the weather warms up,
we have activities for all ages so please remember to
check the calendar!
Thank you,
Amy Graham - Treasurer
volved. We wanted to make the Club more finan-
cially secure and we did this by maintaining effi-
cient club operations.
The counsel of present Officers, Executive Di-
rectors, Past Presidents and ALL members was
essential in what I believe has been a successful
year. I believe we have made the Shamrock Club
ready for the future. I will say it again, I had the
most wonderful Board to work with. I thank you
for all you did.
As always, I end with something from my
Mother, give it your best that's all you can do.
God Bless,
Mary Kathleen Grady Strickland
President 2018
cast our ballots for those we feel will best lead our club into the future. One of the benefits of our club is its oppor-
tunity to have a say. Attendance at the meetings and showing up for the election are ways of ‘having our say’ in
the future of our club. It’s a privilege our membership affords us.
At the same time we elect new leadership, we bid farewell to President Mary Grady Strickland and thank her for
her exemplary leadership this past year. The presidency of the Shamrock Club is a grave responsibility. He/She
has the responsibility to lead the club and to work with the e-board and membership in the governance of the club.
So, thanks, Mary, and the members who are going off the e-board this year! Thanks for a job well done!
Meanwhile, we continue the work and mission of our club, and (we hope) will inspire many more members to be-
come involved in the mission of the Shamrock Club.
On a personal note, I did some small research recently and discovered, much to my surprise, that I have now served
15 years as chaplain of this club! I often tell people that its meeting is the only meeting I enjoy attending! I’ve
always had a deep appreciation for the good and lively spirit of the members of this club, and look forward to the
coming year. May good St. Patrick and all the Irish saints intercede for us this coming year, to have another won-
derful year together.
With blessings,
Msgr. John K. Cody, Chaplain

Candidates for Office 2018
The following members were nominated at the March 11th meeting to run for the Executive Board
Secretary: Andrew Shuman (Unopposed)
There are two open positions for Director with four members nominated to run:
Christina McConahay-Harris; Jamie Porter; Nora Feeney: Katie Summers
Voting will begin at Noon on Sunday April 15th. The General Membership Meeting will begin at
2pm while voting continues until 3pm when the polls will close. Please bring your membership card
if you can however, every member who is eligible to vote will be on a roster in the polling room.
Andrew Shuman - Candidate for Secretary
Qualifications to run: Prior Executive Board Director; Chairman of Major Committee; at least 3 years con-
tinuous membership
Fellow Members,
I am humbled to be nominated for Secretary. I first ran for office three years ago, and I asked you to get to know
me before you voted for me. While I was not successful that year, I learned what was needed to succeed. For the
last two years I have served on the Executive Board, and as Membership Co-Chairman. Both have provided me
the experience with this organization that I needed to add to my experience from other organizations, and my 25
years in Human Resources/Employee Relations. Many of you have offered me support and the occasional com-
pliment, but I have to blame my parents. Whatever I have accomplished, it is because of their example of service
and involvement. If I am fortunate enough to receive your vote again, I promise that whatever we do, we will do
well. I have seen over the last three years that there is nothing that we can't accomplish when we work together. I
plan to use those same resources to make our Club successful. With your support, "The Shu will STILL fit!"

Jamie Porter - Candidate for Director
Qualifications to run: Committee Member; Recommend by Chair; Continuous membership for more than 2
years
My name is Jamie Porter and I am running for the position of Executive Director for The Shamrock Club of Co-
lumbus. Several of my family members and good friends have served as President of The Shamrock Club. Their
pride of this organization and their legacy of service inspired me to want to become more involved in Columbus’
Irish community.
My goal is simple: I want to build on the Club’s successes and I believe the best way to do that is to tap into the
talent, experience and energy of the general membership. Whether it’s been at the pub or at one of the Club’s
sponsored events, I’ve talked to a lot of people about things that the Club does really well and also about things
that the Club could improve upon. I have heard some really good ideas! As an Executive Director I will make
sure that these ideas are heard and given fair consideration by the Club’s Officers.
I’d also like to thank everyone who stepped up and agreed to run for offices this year. The health and future of
The Shamrock Club depends on the willingness of people to take on these positions.
Christina McConahay-Harris - Candidate for Director
Qualifications to run: Committee Member; Recommend by Chair; Continuous membership for more than 2
years
Fellow Members,
April 15th is a big day in my family. It’s the day my parents got married. In 2018 they are celebrating 51 years of
marriage and on that day, I’m asking for your support as I run for Executive Director.
I’ve been a member of the Shamrock Club as long as I can remember. I have grown-up alongside many of you at
Irish Family Reunions, Picnics and events over the last 49 years. I haven’t been an adult member all of those
years, but I’ve been in and around the Club all my life.
I have worked alongside my sisters and parents for decades at the OSU/Michigan Party, the Joe Conley Extrava-
ganza, countless Blood Drives and I have sold thousands of parade badges. I’ve been a volunteer the past 5 year at
various events, covering ticket sales, working membership tables, selling 50/50 tickets and pouring beer for the
Dublin Irish Fest.
I would be honored to continue my service on the e-Board. I am not sure that I can promise 51 years of service,
but I can promise the same level of dedication and hard work that is the standard for my family.
Page 9 Volume 81 - Issue 12
Nora Feeney - Candidate for Director
Qualifications to run: Committee Member; Recommend by Chair; Continuous membership for more than 2
years
I have been a member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus for more than 10 years.
It has been very gratifying for me to have participated in club events over those
years. My daughters Regan and Macy have attended many Shamrock Club events
and have enjoyed working as volunteers as well. Together, with my husband Jim,
we have taken great pleasure in celebrating our Irish heritage. Now that my chil-
dren are older, I have more time and would like to dedicate some of it to the Sham-
rock Club in a more official position. I would be honored to have the opportunity
to be part of the leadership of this great club.
My twenty years of teaching have strengthened my organizational, problem-solving and communica-
tion skills, all of which I feel would make me an excellent choice to serve on the Executive Board. I
vow to enthusiastically use these skills to help the Shamrock Club continue to grow and flourish. If
given the opportunity, I will work diligently in any way I can to support and promote our wonderful
organization.
I would greatly appreciate your vote on April 15th
Nora Feeney
Katie Summers - Candidate for Director
Qualifications to run: Committee Member; Recommend by Chair; Continuous membership for more than 2
years
Fellow members of the Shamrock Club of Columbus,
I am extremely honored to have been nominated and to be running for a position on the executive board of the
Shamrock club. My family has a long history with the club, my grandfather, Michael Somers, joined shortly after
the club was founded, parade grand marshal in 1984 and great uncle, Charles Timlin, was president in 1966.
Each summer I participate in the corn hole league and have thrown in Clann nan Gael darts. I have volunteered at
numerous club events including the music festival, car show, golf outing and more. Whenever possible, I support
the membership committee and was privileged to assist with the organization of the county flags for Proclamation
Day and the St. Patrick’s Day parade this year.
As a member of the LAOH I have served as Missions and Charities officer and currently I am recording secretary
ensuring all members receive minutes include activities of the Clann na nGael organizations.
I would be honored to represent our membership in continuing to honor our Irish heritage and the founders of this
club and being positive presence in the community.
I appreciate your support.
Thank you,
Seanachai Page 10
