Sometimes We Need to Remember
Holy Week, followed by the celebration of Easter and Pentecost, is one of our biggest reminders of why we are about being disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ. These beautiful celebrations are sacred
ways that our Church takes us out of the business of life and reminds us that this is where all gratitude
and hope begins. The challenge is to infuse the Easter spirit into all we do throughout the year.
As dedicated and committed parish leadership, we often take our responsibility and the work of our
councils and committees very seriously. We try to be efficient with the precious time we have at meetings so that as many of our agenda items might be addressed. We know that because we are
called to this special work in our parish, “remembering” is the foundation and needs to be a priority.
Recently, new Parish Policies for Pastoral Councils and Finance Councils were updated and released to parishes. It is impressive to see on page one of the Pastoral Council polices under Purposes (section
2) the purpose and responsibility of council members is to:
“Listen and Respond to the Holy Spirit. The pastoral council, with the pastor/
administrator/pastoral leader and input from the staff members, will prayerfully consider
what the Holy Spirit is calling the parish to be and become.”
Visioning with the help of the Holy Spirit can be very exciting and is the way that we can be sure
God’s will is done. Also, stated in both the pastoral and finance council polices, we find a similar
directive on decision making (page 2 and 7, respectively):
Guided by Faith and Prayer. All deliberations by parish leaders should be guided by a spirit
of prayer, openness to the Holy Spirit….
In Faith and Prayer – all meetings of the council should be preceded by quality prayer time,
so that members might be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their deliberations.
No doubt, it would be helpful if we could memorize or have these statements written on the bottom of
every agenda as a way of helping us to remember what the business we are doing is truly about.
Perhaps our meetings might go more smoothly and the fruits of our labor surprising. Remembering an authentic prayer seems kind of simple, doesn’t it? We can and should “just do it!”
Blessings in these Sacred Seasons,
The Department of Stewardship and Pastoral Services

Stephensville Round Up - Rural Life Festival
Mark your calendar for Sunday, August 9, 2015, for the St. Patrick Parish “Round Up” in
Stephensville. For many years St. Patrick has held an annual community builder and celebration
of rural life. While details are still being worked out the day begins with a special mass, followed
by a great dinner, a parade and then fun for one and all. This year the community of St. Patrick Parish would like to extend a special invitation to all from throughout the diocese who value the
rural and small town way of life to join them for this celebration. More exciting details coming –
but mark it down in your calendar now! Parade registration forms at http://www.stpatrick-stephensville.org/Roundup.
