This Sunday is the last day to bring in school supplies. All items are still
appreciated but there is a great need for wide-ruled notebook paper, disinfecting
wipes, and large boxes of tissues. Monetary donations are also welcomed. The collection bin is located in the East Entrance. Monetary donations are also
welcome. The lists are available online at www.fbchsv.org/schoolsupplies and at the
Welcome Centers.

As you know our schools are an extremely important aspect of our community. We expect the school system to produce the highest results in the education of our children. In many circumstances there are numerous difficulties to meet the educational needs of our area students. There has been some wonderful support to our schools that has come from caring Christians and churches in our area and some astounding results have transpired. One example is the work of Southwood Presbyterian in the Lincoln Village community. Lincoln Elementary was able to bring their scores from one of the lowest schools to one of the highest, all because Southwood and other churches cared and volunteered to help.
First Baptist is in a unique position to begin an adventure in the same manner with Lakewood Elementary School. After much research and interviews with administrations in our area we believe Lakewood is a place where God is leading our church to accept the challenge of providing support.
During the month of August you will hear of ways our church can support the mission of assisting Lakewood for the next twelve months. We will provide information of how you can help and volunteer in this effort. This Sunday I will share the hope we have for this ministry. Watch for information coming your way in the days ahead. Begin praying right now how God would want you to be involved and how our church can make a wonderful difference in the lives of students, teachers, and parents in that community.

one of our church members recently had lunch at the Mellow Mushroom where she left a generous tip (half the amount of the ticket) and one of our generosity cards. The next time she lunched there, the waitress showed her the card she left and said that she kept it as a reminder to “pay it forward”. she also said she was going to visit our church, even though she is Catholic. our member assured her we would love to have her join us for worship!

Because the Christian faith is lived in community, our giving is between us and God and between us and the other believers in our church family. since our church is a family of faith who are on a mission together for God’s kingdom, then our giving, or lack in giv-ing, has an impact on our common life.
We are part of Christ’s body and we have a part to play. We have time, talent and money to contribute to the common good and for a common cause. our giving is between us and the other believers in our church because we are connected to one another in Christ. That spiritual connection is expressed in glad and generous sharing.
What does our current year’s deficit giving to our ministry plan mean for our church? right now we are reducing spending through the delay of facility repairs. The longer term impact of deficit giving is that these repairs still have to occur, and they will have to be accomplished in subsequent years. reduced offerings also mean reduced contri-butions to our cooperative missions and First Baptist missions, impacting our ability to share Christ in this community and around the world.
Family of Faith, we are on mission together for God’s kingdom. How closely are you connected to your fellow belivers through your contributions of time, talent and gifts? Does your Everyday Generosity extend to the support of your local church?
God wants us to be good neighbors, making the world better for all people, one person at a time. He wants us to do this locally and globally, with others or alone, spontaneously or intentionally. Just do it!
It’s not about us. It is about what God is doing through us as we make ourselves and our resources available to Him.
Bible study Preparation with Clara Mae Van BrinkThe Childhood Ministries Team is excited about welcoming Clara Mae Van Brink to our church. She is passionate about helping churches develop a comprehensive ministry to parents that not only helps them be better parents but also equips them to disciple their children. She is a gifted communicator who makes you laugh and learn all at the same time. Her 28 years of ministry experience have provided her with a wealth of practical advice and information for church leaders, teachers, and parents.
