Merit Award Winners
Chaplain’s Chatter My name is Claire Willis and I am the school chaplain at Poseidon Primary. I started
out in my role last year and am so pleased to be back at Poseidon for 2020! I hope
the term has started well for you and your children are settling into their new
classes. A very warm welcome to those of you who are new to our school.
Some of you may be wondering, "What does a school chaplain do?" Whilst every
day can be so varied, my focus is on the wellbeing of our school community.
A school chaplain is present in the school to:
Provide pastoral care for students, families and staff
Link schools with the local community, support agencies and organisations
Play an active role assisting with and supporting school events
Support, mentor, encourage and empower the school community
My office is now located next to the Kindy in Room 1 and my usual work days are Mondays and Fridays.
Please see Mrs Guy if you think I can be of any assistance to you or your child.

some help in coaching our year 5/6 sporting teams for the winter carnival.

being available during this time for terms 1 and 2.

Community Health Nurse Notice Welcome to the new school year. My name is Andrea Zulch and I am the Community Health Nurse who
visits your school.
Community Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may
reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry
Health Assessment program.
Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing
information, assessment, health counselling and referral. The services provided are free and confidential.
If you have a concern about your child’s health or development, please contact me on 0409 067 441.
Colour blindness means that a person cannot distinguish some colours or see the colours differently to other
people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen
differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.
An information leaflet on colour blindness will be distributed to all year Pre-primary students in term one.
Please take the time to read the pamphlet.
For more information and see the Colour Blind Awareness and Support Group on
http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~doverton/
If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye
specialists or optometrists. You can also contact your local Community Health Nurse, Andrea Zulch on 0409
067 441.
